I'm in the states but we get winter! No snow yet but it's 30s and 40s. I have a light running jacket that feels great but by the time i hit mile 3 Im sweating like a pig. Win some lose some. SoCal running sounds like the dream!
"30s and 40s" - I could handle that. I was in KY, GA, and NC when I was in the Army. Winters were pretty mild there. Summers weren't!
"I have a light running jacket that feels great but by the time i hit mile 3 Im sweating like a pig." - I hear ya. I bought a "Session" jacket from Tracksmith last week. Spendy but thought it would do the trick. I need something light for the walk to and from the start point. Once I get running, I warm up OK but I get cold walking at 68° and, if there's a breeze, it's chilly afterward.
The primo Traksmith jacket is a really nice jacket but I've got a track suit top that I can wear to the SP I can either roll it up and tie it around my waist or just stash it in a hedge.
The weather here
is hard to beat, for running. I'm in a little area south of LA that has the Mediterranean Warm Summer climate. If I go even a couple of miles in any direction, it's a different climate which is sorta spooky, but it helps take the sting out of the insanity of people and politicians here in CA. ATM, it's 66°, calm, and sunny and I'll soon be heading out for an "ERFF11", which is a 1:40 long run (endurance run) with a Zone 3 finish (that's "fast finish" for the "FF" part).
I use Training Peaks and using the 80/20 Half Marathon Masters Level 0 training plan. It's for "masters" runner (40+ years of age) and I'm at Level 0 but am hoping to get to Level 1 next year. I'm only two years into (this part of) my running journey but, I'm 68 years old and I had a heart attack in 2018 that damaged 4% of my right ventricle so running is getting me healthier as old age relentlessly takes its toll. It is nice to see progress but I realize that I'm fighting a losing battle.
OK, time to get going. Do I want the route that crosses three main roads in a city of 200k or do I want the route that runs through quiet neighborhoods that have almost no traffic?
