Not for long, 2 weeks ago the CNN poll was " are professional sports salaries out of control" 97% of people who voted said yes.

If the people who buy the tickets to the games are broke, they aren't going to be spending that money. If there is less money spent at the games by people, how long do you think they'll be getting those salaries?

I've also yet to hear of a professional sports team flying to DC on a private jet to ask for taxpayer dollars.

What really makes me laugh is these greedy rich people are also christians. Well their own bible states "it is easier to put a camel through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of heaven"

I feel that I'm rich beyond all means, I have my family and our home is filled with love. That to me is what being "rich" is all about.

cnn and public opinion polls do not determine what a athlete earns...or the sports franchise earns....most of them are alot like government ,,any time a sport franchise needs some money..they steal it from the tax payer..for the rich...ill give you a perfect example...the colts were going to move the franchise if they didnt get a new billion dollar statium..so the mayor gave em a new statium..guess who pays...the old done wasnt paid for yet..and they are going to blow it up...you want to know who pays these fancy sports stars all this big money? i mean other than endorsements..it is you and i the tax payer...i dontmind the man making 25 mil a year in the private sector..so long as his company is not looting people eating bologne sandwich's to pay him his millions...same as people being looting to pay these banksters off ..they gambles..they lost..and we pay..fuck that..this government is ILLEGAL..THEY ARE NO LONGER VALID..THE ONLY THING I WANT FROM THEM IS LEFT ALONE..AND THAT IS NOT GOING TO HAPPEN...:fire:

public opinion polls do show the tone of the public. If 97% of people think sports salaries are out of control, that tells me that a lot of them are broke and don't feel the need to spend their hard earned dollars on tickets. You've got to read between the lines. If even half the people who usually buy tickets decide to pass on tickets this year, where are those salaries going to come from? The people do control the salaries buy purchasing the tickets. If the ticket sales plummet, the salaries will follow.

As far as buildling new staduims is concerned, I don't follow sports, so I had no idea where their cash comes from, but I would think that if they can afford to pay their players such over the top salaries, I'd tell them to go stuff their staduim request. Make the fucking players pay for it.

That's the first poll that might be valid. The unwritten rule of polls..Conduct the poll where the majority believe as the polls sponsor.
2) select the segment of said poll that most closely reflects the desired goal which is sought.
#0 Be assured that no one will question the results.

*lol* Where are you findiitizebng "news"? Most aren't news, they are the opinion of the networks. I believe that ALL of the supposed "news" shows should have disclaimers ij bold type to the affect the "THE FOLLOWING PROGRAM IS FOR ENTERTAINMENT PURPOSES ONLY> CONTENT DOES NOT NECESSARILY REFLECT ACTUAL EVENTS.
I can't count the number of "news" stories reported that report the actual facts rather than the opinions of the network. Case in point, although I can't dredge up the location right now, anywho.. The incident was a college campus shooting. Now the networks reported, correctly, that 2 students were able to subdue the gunman until LEO arrived.. HOWEVER.. they failed 114 out of 115 to correctly report that inorder to affect the capture, that BOTH students retrieved their permitted firearms from their vehicles to do so.
You may ask why..well, the why is to squelch the truth about firearms in the hands of lawabiding citizens thus putting the bright spotlight on their continued lies concerning firearms and civilians. The next is the gross intentional misreporting of the "accidental" gun deaths of children.. The numbers that they cry from the roof tops is a child is killed every day by "accidental gun fire..Well.. If gangbangers and drug dealers, most over 18, can be considered "children" and the shootings as " accidental" then I suppose they are correct, but as far as I, and millions of others are concerned are not as advertised. Thank the Gods that there are nunerous alternatve sources to get the true facts, with sorces named unlike the major "news' gather organisations.

What does school shootings have to do with sports salaries? Public opinion polls do show the tone of the public, at least those who aren't stuck on the cartoon network.......

I don't know. People always say sports salaries are too high, but they go anyways. I bet there isn't a single poll in the past 30 years where people feel that sports stars are underpaid, but 100 that say they are overpaid. People love to hate athletic salaries.

Public Opinion Polls do not show the tone of the Public.

There are ways to manipulate polls, and then there's additional factors such as body language, subvocalization, a lot of human communication happens outside of words.

Then there's also the fact that polls can be manipulated by phrasing the questions differently, or altering the words used.

It does seem stupid that someone gets paid that much money to play a game, but the person you trust to educate your children makes next to nothing.

I predict sports salaries plummet in the near future. If people are broke they aren't going to be buying tickets to games. When the stadiums start having more empty seats than filled ones, those salaries are going to change in a big way.

If people can't afford their homes, gas and food, I'm sure sports will be slashed off their personal budgets first.

Not to mention the way professional athletes have been behaing lately, drunken car crashes, dog fighting rings, taking guns into clubs and accidently shooting themselves. I guess they forget they are supposed to be role models.

Your kidding, more than likely sports ticket sales will increase. In times of uncertainty people like being able to relax, and have a good time.

Escapism.

I dunno, if you have no home and no groceries and can't even afford the gas to get to the game, how are you going to buy a ticket?

This just in, 7 Churches foreclosed on this year due to diminishing collections, still think sports are going to stay strong?

Oh no, more crisis, loans for large shopping malls and city buildings all over the nation that are coming due in 2009 might lead to large, scale foreclosures. Apparently the credit crunch is making it difficult for them to refianance. I wonder how many sports complexes will be repossessed? Bbwwwhhhaaaa ha ha ha ha ha ha ha

If you'd truly read my post, you'd see. The correlation being the poll. How many people took part in this poll? Where was the poll taken? What were the demographics? How were the questions asked. In a recent"poll" it was stated that 70 million men suffered from this disease.. all based on 1015 men. Are you actually saying that any poll with such a limited study group is accurate?
Again, had you read the post, you'd see that my reference to the school shootings I was showing the bias of the reporting agencies.. they were reporting the facts that THEY deemed of importance, but not ALL the facts. IMO anyone who believes that what is shown as "news" as being the entire story is sadly mistaken. Those folks are stuck in the cartoon network.
The sad truth is no poll, as most are taken, show the tone of public opinion anywhere but the immediate area where the poll was taken.
Do you believe that the opinions of Greenwich Conn dwellers on the issue of gun control is the same as say rural Vt., or Rural Va? Not even close.

It was a CNN poll. It was available to everyone who watched CNN that day. It wasn't a little local poll. It was a text poll, all you had to do was text. I'm sure it was more than a thousand people that voted. They usually say how many votes that there have been but I didn't pay attention to the number. I would have wrote it down but I didn't know people would be so upset at the thought of others thinking that sports players are being paid to much.

Retailers are expecting a larger percentage of returns than usual.

Malls can't pay their mortgages, citys can't pay their mortgages, retailers are expecting a large amount of returns, churches are being forclosed on, does this set the tone of the public?

Plaxico Burress being sued. He crashed his 140 thousand dollar mercedes into a womans car and his insurance had lapsed 3 days prior. How much does he get paid again? Why didn't he have insurance? Is it because professional athletes think they are above the law?
