[I want to keep my grows organic.. just a personal decision mostly. There was a post in the organic section by Videoman40 that argued that you wouldn't have to flush when growing with organics because of a lack of salt build-up... that made sense too.
Hiya Porterhouse
I'm pleased to see you're going down the 'organic' route - I think you'll be very pleased with the results you get.
Regarding flushing and organic nutrients, what Videoman40 said in his thread is largely correct, however, I'd like to add to that - you cannot assume that just because you're using organic nutrients that means you'll never have to flush.
What it does mean is, the liklihood of you having to flush is greatly reduced when compared to chemical salt fertilisers. Contrary to popular belief, organic fertilisers do and can build up excess salts in the growing medium - but they do so at a much slower rate than pure chemical based fertiliser salts, primarily because 1) they possess much smaller NPK ratios generally than chemical based fertilisers and 2) they break down (and release their salt/ions) at a much slower rate than chemical based fertilisers.
That still doesn't mean Organic nutrients cannot build up toxic salt excesses, or that it cannot burn plants - it can and does.
The key to knowing whether to 'flush' or not depends entirely on your skill as a grower in understanding the nutrient requirements of your plants. If you feed them at the correct level (whether using chemical salt fertilisers, quasi-organic or 100% organic) and slowly reduce down the nutrient feeding towards harvest - you shouldn't have a need to flush excess nutrients - because the plants already used them up. If however you're feeding at far too high a level, then excess salts can build up meaning that you do have to flush towards harvest regardless of what nutrients you've been using.
It's important you understand this distinction.
Good luck with the rest of your grow
