3000w Vertical Setup

What made you think I was loosing light when you saw my design, DWR? Usually people have the complete opposite reaction when they see a vertical setup, that's why I'm wondering.

Regarding the height of the lights, normally I raise them before taking pictures to avoid getting burned. Even with the lights raised, I get burned from time to time. The way I have them setup, the mogul is a tad lower than the highest part of the plants on the top row. Here's how it looks without raising the lights:

well first of all that space where u can walk between pots i would make smaller.. i am not talking out of experience... just observing.. so i can be fucking wrong

so anyway yeh get them closer to each other.. i thought that a vertical setup should be like that, cuz well your loosing light aint ya ??????

DWR: the space in the middle is fairly narrow. Walking is kind of wishful thinking. I'm normally crawling whenever I need to get in there.

Distance from the light to the first row is 16", which is as close as I've had a 1000w to a plant. I'm afraid that if I get the plants closer to the light, the leaves will start curling and get some heat burn, even though I have a fan pointing towards the lights. Maybe when they are a little older I'll be able to get them closer to the light.

I know you haven't tried vertical before, but neither have I, so your comments are welcomed.

have you considered putting some cone fans blowing vertically upwards underneath the lights. There's another vert grow on this forum that swears by that, and it does make sense to go with the natural convection flow. although, not going to make it any easier to get in and out. honestly though, I wouldn't be moving the plants any closer any time soon. not that I have a clue

I don't think fans blowing upwards will allow me to get the plants closer. The A/C keeps the temperature nice and cold, and I already have an oscillating fan at one end of the room pointed towards the lights that dissipates excess heat away from them. But the lamps feel as cool as they can for a 1000w HPS (if you know what I mean). I think there's simply a limit to how close you can have a plant to a HID lamp.

lol, get some cooltubes man, only 50 bucks a piece... and get a 1000cfm fan, will do you fucking great !

350 dollars and you'll get all the equipment, incl a charcoal filter.... emmmm anyway if ya have one u'll be around 250-300 bucks.. and surely will get 100+ gramms pluss ! thats a 750+ investment ! if not more!

i say you'll get more...

Man, was I busy today. First I transplanted the clones to some 6 inch pots. I watered the new soil with tap water (175ppm/6.40 PH). All of the clones had rooted, despite the temp/humidity fluctuations. Goes to show you that all you need to successfully clone is a clean pair of scissors (or blades, or whatever you use).

Since the clones rooted, there was no need for me to keep all those mother plants, so I transplanted all of the remaining Mother's Finest (9) into 2.3g pots and will keep two as mothers. The remaining 7 plants will spend the next 24 hours in darkness and will be transferred to the flower room. Plants got some tap water (175ppm/6.40 PH).

The 4 Big Bud plants have shown their sex! I got 2 males and 2 females. The White Berry also showed sex, but it was a feminized seed so no surprises there. I transplanted the 2 Big Bud females and the White Berry to 2.3g pots and gave them tap water (175ppm/6.40 PH). They will remain in the veg room until further notice.

The 2 Big Bud males were moved to a separate room where they will flower long enough for me to take some pollen. There is no artificial light in that room, only daylight. Obviously, they were not transplanted.

I also switched back to horizontal lighting in the veg room for the time being. In the attached picture you still see the shelves with some plants on the right side. That is no longer there since those were the 7 Mother's Finest before transplanting them.

I plucked some lower leaves and gave the plants a half turn. Looks like tomorrow they will need some water.

Seems like the 3 Power Skunk are males. I'll know for sure in a few days.

0.75 ft each.... u have 3 foot space dont u ????

well from your pics...your plant numbers to pot size seems off..i would do at least 3 tiers and if your not using a lot of plants 2 to 3 gallon pots..and supercrop them..i think your goona find that your yeilds wont be as great as if you were to do just plan veritcal,, the trick is with verical is high plant numbers... to bulbs.... mulitble tiers with a very steap slope on angles... and the spacing on the total setup is less then 6.5 feet..follow HBR setup guidelines....

A lot has happened since my last update.

1. On Day 13, I foliar fed the girls and noticed a hermie! It was just one bud, and it was the plant on the furthest left corner in the room. I suspect it was the red light from the dehumidifier that turns on whenever the unit fills with water, and it is located on that corner. So I covered the light with duct tape.

I left the plant in there after removing the sacks, and will be keeping a close eye not only on him/her, but on all the plants.

2. On that same day, 7 new members joined the party. These were 7 out of 9 plants that I took cuttings from, so once the clones rooted there was no need to keep that many mothers. I left two in the veg room with the White Berry and BigBud mothers.

3. Now for the big news. I got a fourth 1000w in there two days ago. That's right. Makes the title of this thread moot.

Room got to 84°, so I bought some big fans to put under each light to dissipate heat. They blow so hard that the lights were moving around in circles. Had to play with the fans for a while for the lights to stay put.

3. That new row of plants, you ask? Well, yesterday I transplanted most of the 28 clones I took a couple of weeks ago and put them to flower. I still have 5 more to transplant.

4. I fed the older girls yesterday as well (1200ppm/6.10 PH). Same routine: fill the liners up... wait a couple of minutes... refill.

The plan was always to do a third row and get more plants in there, I just didn't have enough clones to do it. I started with 40 of them, so I vegged them for 35 days to make the best of what I had.

I put 28 more plants in there yesterday, but there's still room for some more. Plenty of room. A perpetual with this system wouldn't be such a bad idea, but I'm out of here in 75 days so I can't keep putting new plants in there.

I'm sure I won't yield as much as I could this time around. Specially with 4 x 1000w, which is overkill for sure. But that's just the kind of person I am.

It’s ok for the lights to move around...
I have the same affect with my hoods in my room. The fan makes them swing just a little bit, but hey why not, I feel it allows the parts of the plants to get light in areas that might not get that much light basically moving it all around to even the light out more.

looking awesome, dun wana ask again. but arnt your lights a little to low on those pics ? maybe a tad higher would be better light distribution ?
