its like no1 has heard of 'The Roots'... or Stetsasonic.
You'd be surprised how many hip hop artist and producers can actually play instruments. GT, as much respect as I have for you, it sounds more to me like you're disrespecting a culture and lifestyle than a genre of music. I'm not really sure how I feel about that.
hahaha why? i could see maybe the drummer, he seems like the weirdest out of all them LOLDid anyone hear on the news a while back that they wouldn't let the lead singer board a plane because they thought it was likely he was a terrorist?
I was trying to emphasize a comparison between the selling out of a popular band that is known for playing well and writing brilliant songs, and the hip hop industry which is ultimately sold out before CDs hit shelves...i misspelled a word... wow.
i dont listen to rock or metal music, but i dont trash the music.
GT seemed like he got mad because sum1 said sumthin bad about metalica. he then proceeded to trash 'hip hop' and the people who listen to it.
this thread went from metalica, then to trashing another genre of music. how does that make sense?
no hard feelings from me tho, just didnt understand why.
i can respect thatI was trying to emphasize a comparison between the selling out of a popular band that is known for playing well and writing brilliant songs, and the hip hop industry which is ultimately sold out before CDs hit shelves...
I know that there ARE talented musicians within the industry, however it is much more saturated by garbage than most other genres... The themes of almost all of the songs are generally the same... It's not about breaking through, it's about feeding people the same bile they've been drinking for years.
10-15 years ago you could ask any major label executive about how they feel in regards to the future of hip hop, and they would just point at record sales and smile, but now in 2009, there is nothing innovative, genuine, or exceedingly original.
Ultimately the lack of innovation, and originality is going to (and has proven to) drive that genre of music into the ground (In terms of sales at least). Popularity will follow eventually, people will grow tired of the same themes, the same this, the same that, the same ham dinner coming out of a different can.
Meanwhile, what I like to call "real musicians" are doing just fine... aside from this painful economic crisis we're in that is clearly bringing EVERY industry to its knees. Compare the sales across the board of genres, and you will see what I am saying.
Metallica never got anywhere promoting someone elses products in their lyrics or with their image, which is more than can be said about 90% of recognized artists in the hiphop/rap genre.
I can listen to almost anything, but quality counts- and lately the shit that has been playing on the radio, etc has been really lame.i can respect that
there are alot of 'hip hop' 'artists' who are garbage, and only weaken the genre. i agree with you on that. but there are still SOME real hip hop artists, and they consistently put out quality music. but those artists are not the ones being played on the radio, tv, etc... its sad, really.
the hip hop i listen to is very diverse - and NOT 'mainstream'. im glad we could talk about this is a way that is not putting one kind of music down.
Yeah...Metallica are fuckin' raw live.Seen them LIVE in concert a couple weeks ago, From what I saw up there on stage, they can buy/wear whatever the fuck they want. I've seen the following hip/hop R&B Rock pop bands in concert.......50Cent Eminem (x3) Kid Rock (x4) Dave Mathews, Dre, Snoop,Machine Head, Pantera, Rollins Band,
Not one of those even held a Candle to Metallica, and I'm not all that big of a Metallica fan, I got the ticket for free, its was BY FAR ABOVE AND BEYOND the best concert I have ever been to. Just fucking almost MAJESTIC.
As far as HIP HOP 8 out of 10 songs are fucking stupid , but normally theres a few good tunes in there.
I refer you back to this:hip hop is alright, I don't know why people are bashing it with a bunch of blanket statements like a bunch of 14 year olds. It's like saying CAN'T SPELL RAP WITHOUT CRAP LOLOL, cause that's such a clever statement. There's good music in a lot of genres. Not every one but hip-hop is definitely one of them. Anyway, back to metallica. Metallica sold out when they released the black album and cut their hair. the black album itself wasn't bad but it signified the change when they really stopped caring about the music and more about the money. These guys were metal as fuck in the 80s and they threw it down the drain for (bigger) commercial success.
Because I don't think I could have said it any better...So what? You write some of the best songs ever, play the best shows ever, and you can't go out and buy something nice for yourself?
Should they still be living in some shithole in LA? Why?
Go write good music you can make money off of, and tell me if you don't end up looking like one of those goofy hiphop kids with baggy colorful clothing and bling bling.
Shame on you for this one! Why I oughtta
the first part or the second part??Because I don't think I could have said it any better...
The second part...what GrowTech said. I mean, I know that Metallica "sold out" or whatever, but most people consider them sell outs when they first made the video for "One" (or whichever was their first video) but they still continued to grow and despite the negativity thrown their way, still made bad ass music. I happen to like the "Black Album" because of the production that was thrown into it. The "Black Album" sounds the way it does cuz of the the Producer involved, and the cooperation of the band to actually go through with it...they knew they needed a change in their sound and they were right...the first part or the second part??
thats in 2007, they all shaved and cut their hair (except hammet to a degree, though he still dresses like a pretty boy) in like 1996That is what I was sayin aout the terrorist incident. Can you really blame him for shaving his face and cutting his hair after that?
