First grow u tell me

i got them on .....a 20w and two 11w energy savers

so lets put it this way,

a 8w energy saver puts out 40 watts of light,

u do the math

You cant go by the fake watts. Try the lumens you need at least 600 lumens per foot. The cfl's should be only a couple inches away.

i lost the boxes for the 20 w an the two 11 w, but the 8w bulb ( that says 40w output) has 420 lumens

so therefore i got well over 600,

can to much light cause stretching ?

and they have been about 10 inches from the lights/ reflector.

should i put them higher, like 2 inches ?

you need to move your lights closer, like an inch away, it sounds like they are stretching pretty badly.
And don't go by the incandescent equivalent it doesn't mean a thing. You have 30 watts going right now, what spectrum are they? You need more lights, there was a 150 hps going around for 15 bucks.
Just to give you an idea I veg with 10, 23 watt daylight cfl's which is around 17,000 lumens and I flower under a 400 watt hps which puts of 55,000 lumens.

When the plants get a little hardy you can bury them deeper:)
well they are in rockwool, i dont wan to mess with them unless i realy have too,

btw heres soem photos, ill mark them according to day of growth, and you tell me if u think its stretching

this is the light
.
.......

this is day 3 or four at 15mm
..

this is day 8 @ 50 mm

if your running compact flourescents, they should be no more than 4" away from the plant. the only way your allowed to get away with that is because cfl's are a lot cooler running bulbs then anything else.

i'm running 22,000 lumens in a 3x3 closet. you should be running 2 32w cfls per plant till at least the 4th week of vegging. try finding bulbs that put off a blue/white glow instead of a red. If you want a greater yield with more space to put your hands underneath to check out the plants, then i would highly recomend switching to a metal halide when you can afford it, then when flowering switch to a high pressure sodium.

right now your stunting the plants, they can use almost as much light as you can throw at them ( as long as the temp stays in the mid-high 70's during the lights on period.)

Those are about 4500 kelvin. The 6500 k lights would be better but they are OK for now. They are not too stretched....Move the light closer and they will be OK.
