Gday all. COMPLETE newbie here, few questions

Now I have completely no idea, so if anyone bothers to spare a bit of time to help Ill be real grateful.
Basically me and a few mates were thinking about growing our own outdoors. As far as I knew, I thought it was as simple as getting a few seeds and sticking them in the ground someplace private, and coming back some time later to reap ounces and ounces off your plant. Hehe.
Obviously, after a few hours trawling these forums, it takes slightly more effort than that. Germinating, PH levels, good strains in relation to climates, aeration, moisture retention, pests, harvesting and curing, fertilization, the list goes on.

What I'm hoping for is just a guide on how to get the most basic of basic grows happening. A few plants, not too big or fancy, and I might go as far as tilling the soil with a bit of cheap fertilizer. Ysee, I'm talking au' naturale. Is this even possible? I'm looking at the advanced indoor growers section and I just can't believe how elaborate things can get.
Cheers! R31

look at o4's 2008/2009 monster attempt..:-)
he buries fish in the bottom of the hole for slow release fertz but puts them pretty deep.... Good soil, and a watering system. if your aussie ( GDAY ) JUST FIND A GOOD RIVER BANK.... sprout/germ them at home on your back door step, dont damage roots transplanting.... and get one of those transperant plastic security jobs...
come back just before flower and trim, and re fert.
You have to think about alotta stuff but this is a start...

yeh, germ at home, or in some jiffy pots, and take them to where u wana grow. it is fairly simple, outdoor growing. but where you do plant them, mae sure theyre bound to get plenty of light and water, especially if you wana leave them there.

I'd till the soil mixing in a promix, perlite or a bit of sand for drainage... I wouldn't add any nutes... I like to do that so I see whats what and learn from it..... a veg nute with a higher N 10-5-5 sort of ratio.. the 20-20-20 basic is good, but strong so use only about 4 times a month.... the 20 nutes are only if you can't afford or get others... for flower you need higher PK a 5-15-10 sort of ratio.. 10-52-10 is the same basic hardware store flower nute as the 20, so be careful, it burns easy... I'd stay away from any tricks (buried fish.. bat guano, manures...etc) till you've got some grow experience..... don't over water..two things fuck plants up fast, especially at the start..too much water and nute.....
I germ seed in between two paper towels.. pie plate..towel...seeds...towel...plae... soak and keep wet..room temp....
I don't worry about putting in dark..its covered anyway.. I have a 90% germ rate this way and find it easy.. when they sprout plant in small pots water every 3-4 days only..I give 1 squirt with mister daily.. no nutes till one month, then outside weather permitting........ luck.:leaf:

I'm well aware of this. Im just about to move into a house with my gf and another friend, so we'll see how that goes:blsmoke:
Cheers for the advice. Unfortunately, not too many river beds around here where the plants aren't going to be discovered.

Come back just before flower and trim
Once again I know jack, so how can I tell when the plant is just about to flower? How long does that stage take from planting.

Plants sense light and the length of the period of light. When the summer solstice hits, the longest day of the summer, the days begin to get shorter. The plants will sense that and that will trigger a hormone and it will take roughly two weeks after that for the first flowering to begin.

So find out what day is the longest day where you live and that will tell you when the flowering process will begin.

For areas not close to water try this... After th3e initial hole is dug work a stout stick into the bottom of the hole, as deep as you can..3ft at least...Next ..take a terry cloth towel, twist it up and shove into hole, filling hole with towel. Leave enough towel in hole to eventually meet roots..about 4 in down. This will wick moisture UP to the plant..Also use some of those water absorbing crystals..They hold water for a fair bit...Hope this'll help...

Okay, the most noobish question of all: where do I get seeds? I'm obviously not too fussed about the strain, so can I just pick them out of buds I buy? Then it goes germinate, let em grow a little bit, and then carefully transplant to a nice protected and fertilized hole where the plant can get to water. And then it gets hazy again. I'm guessing I can't just pick the buds off the plant and cram them into a bowl, right? Curing sounds a touch complicated.
But thanks for your help so far. This place seems to be really good towards noobs. Not too often you find that.

for seeds you can use your good old bag seeds, maybe get some of the best you can buy and use those seeds. my first grow was bagseed from really good bag. it turned out pretty good. or you can order em. there are many seed sites.

thanks for the info yall. Im also planning my first grow and have been doing a lot of reading. You guys just confirmed wut i was already planning. Just a quick question do you think i will complicate things if i grow a bunch of different strains? I want to grow to try out all different strains and stuff.

For your first ... yes try keeping it simple as possible....... outdoors not too bad ( indoors will require different: nutes/lights/time to flower.)

the old phart is right.... Hydro you can kill over night:wall:.... outdoors is alittle easier to grow and less hassles.

If you can't get there to water on a regular basis, add some TERRA SORB crystals to your soil mix. they act like sponges and will slow release moisture. You could possibly also use water rings. They would work well for you.

out. :blsmoke:
