I chose MG because I know it works for growing any kind of plants its just a matter if you know how to use it or not. It may not be the best but it gets the job done

The only thing I've read about MG that even had any type of fact or reasoning behind it is that MG SOIL is very acidic around 5.0. Which i can see why you would not want to use it. But as far as the fertilizer I don't know... but I'm going to find out because I'm on my first grow and thats what I'll be using ><

One reason to add in lime when mixing up the soil. (I'll add lime and perlite, but thats about it. Sometimes peat moss, but that also adds acidity) Lime is neutral at 7.0 so you really can't have too much (with in reason)

Good advice, no matter what your starting pH is. I'm learning the hard way right now. The chemistry of lime allows it to neutralize acids, without overshooting on the alkaline side. Glad to explain if you're really interested.

2 tablespoons per gallon of soil is a good rate for lime.

And this MG=5.0 out of the bag business is total nonsense. The vast majority of commercial plants cannot grow at pH that low. Almost all plants want a pH 6.2-6.8; there are very specialized, but uncommon exceptions.... so guess where MG soil really comes out right out of the bag? All commercial soils come out of the bag around there, and they all tend toward acidity very quickly over time. Also happy to explain, if interested.

Nutes? Depends what soil they're in.. If in MG soil, none... unless they show a clear deficiency. What are you growing in? What have you given them so far?

Water? Changes over time.. small seedling sprouts often go 5-10 days without. Big plants can chew thru a potful of water twice a day... This is something you have to "dial into" with your plants. Looks like you're still in the 5-day-ish stage.

I've used a moisture meter thru my grow, but I don't just look at the meter number. I've been comparing the meter number with how my plants look and my soil feels for 10 weeks.

MG is my shit
ive had really impressive results
i dont see why people talk down on MG
Whitcha, bro.. The only problem I've had so far is from when I thought my plants "needed something" despite no evidence to that effect. Added nutes and burned the shit out of my plants.. not the soils' fault.. it's the stupid grower!!

Seen more than one testimonial from Dutch grow sites -- use MG from start to finish, no nothin' but water. I'm not arguin' with the Dutch anymore..

i know i aint the smartest grower but , i do know that so far , the only thing i put on all of my plants is ph'd h20 w 2-4 of drops of st per gallon . can you give me any hints as what to do with the the crunchy looking one (thats the one in mg ) . the one in the red cup is the one i almost killed in mg before uprooting , and removing as much mg safely as i could . i then replanted it in ff in the red bag and it's coming along now . like i said before , i cant pull it off in mg , others can wich is great cuz then we all get to smoke and we are happy with what soil works . if mg works for you then jam out with your clam out . :peace::leaf:microdot .

I have an experiment going with mg soil. got 2 seedlings planted 1st one is 6 days and looking awesome never seen a seedling with such wide healthy leaves. the other one sprouted a day after the first and is looking good as the 1st.i have an aerogarden classic that i grow in since last year but i also wanted to do a soil grow because i had heard so many bad things about mg. i'm using moisture control mg and haven't watered them except the day i planted them. i'm waiting for the soil to dry out a bit i think it would be easy to over water them considering how the soil holds moisture in. so i can see how many might have made that mistake. can't wait to see how this one turns out. who knows i might go back to soil every year:) but i still love my aerogarden too:peace:

i have to agree. mg works great and as far as being some evil corporation.... who gives a shit. i doubt that if i stop buying mg that all the little kittens will be safe er some shit. whining about multi national conglomerates on a pot forum isnt going to change anything. if you want to take down the industries, you have to create a change of mind, not create anti marketing tactics. becuase when competing with that kind of market power, the majority of idiots dont give a fuck how many kittens died to make mg, so it will continue to thrive.. mg werks great fer me. kudos to the thread starter

Jonny....i wasn't thinking about starting a club...cool....

wanna be a part of it? we can make hats out of newspapers, tie towels around our necks and that will be our capes...

i got a cape right here for you.... it might be a little dirty...

did Superman ever have shit stains on his cape? i don't know.. but you'll still be the coolest super hero i've ever seen..ha..
I have used mg and had fat nugs with it I'm using foxfarm ocean forrest and my first with it was not as good as the mg grow but I was using superthrive with the mg soil and didn't use it with the last grow with foxfarm but I'm using FF and superthrive this time but right now they look alot better but the mg might still was the best and it's all the same strain only difference is the soil but until harvest can't really say :bigjoint:

Well you can buy what is called a moisture meter. You jam it in the soil and it tells you the moisture level in the soil (working on an electronic switch that will activate a watering system based on sensors in soil)

Or

You can wait till you know the plant needs water and then feel how heavy the pot is and then water your plants and then feel how heavy the planter is when there is a noticible difference in the weight it is time to water I like this method because you dont hvat to keep jamming the moisture meter in and ripping roots while you do.

Hey guys. i just got back from my trip and my plants are lookin great! just a tad bit droopy and the soil is a lot drier than i expected. no brown or yellow spots on the leaves though so thats a good sign.

anyway, the third plant i was growin (which was more of an LST experiment) turned out to be male so i kicked it immediately.

im thinkin that the next chance i get, im going to run out to a foodstore and pickup some molasses to start adding to the girls.

here are some updated pics for my grow
the first pic is of the male that i black bagged (kinda V for Vendetta style) and the other 4 are of the remaining two females that i have

keep in mind this is a 2 fluoro, 1 clf grow
using, of course, only MG!!!

btw, question for MG users out there.

im about a month into my latest repotting since i moved to the largest pots the plants will go into and ive started to notice that the soil level has lowered a noticable amount since i started. has this happened to anyone else yet?
i was thinking of simply adding a fresh layer of soil to the top and call it a day.....

sorry for the late reply...

yeah, this happens to me, with whatever i use... its compaction... when you first put soil in a pot, its still fluffy and not compact.. once you apply water, thats when it goes down...perlite is suppose to fix that problem... but it still happens... adding dirt does help... because you don't want the roots to start showing at the top (it happents)....and another thing i noticed... perlite and sun DOESN"T MIX... it says so on the bag, but that doesn't freaking matter, ha.... but if you're gonna use perlite in the sun... applying a layer of dirt on top to cover the perlite helps....
