Ok the green stuff is bad its alge . I dont know how to fix it other than just transplanting . Wrap the cups in foilif no light gets in no alge can grow:) now for the hermie... I say keep it ! Im not to much of a weed snob that seeds bother me i get weed with seeds all the time.. People say og kush is clone only strain but i would love some seeds from a ogkush herm the seeds do cut down on bud weight but i dont mind that either1

and the craigs list is the hook-up thats how i scored all my hps setups! 2x400watt hps complete and 2xmh400s and a 250hps for $200.00 i didnt need all the stuff but he made me buy a package...its all used stuff like you said from construction sites/remodeling/demolition but i have tested it all now i just gotta re-build the room!

Yeah I learned a valuable lesson though...

Don't waste all your money on CFL's! I have spent at least 3 or 400 bucks. Too much.

I wish I had your problem! My temps are too high and my humidity is too low!!

Hey Jesse...

Sorry I haven't been around much, but with me starting to move about a little better, I find myself wanting more and more to be doing stuff...

That combined with the fact that the Sun is back, days are getting longer... PROBABLY no more 30 below, not until November anyways... makes for a Gypsy that wants to be outside a lot...

It has been really really nice here this last week... sunny, highs in the 20's... almost t-shirt weather, I actually wore short pants to town yesterday... in the Sun it felt like a million degrees...lol.... so nice....

And the body like the Sun too... heck... everyone has been under 6" of coats and in the dark for the last 6 months...

Anyways...

I will try to be direct but not an asshole... but it is waaay to early and I woke up with pain.. so bear with me and my "old man on the porch shooting rock salt at everyone that walks by" attitude.... ;-)

Ok people I have uploaded a ton of pics for your enjoyment. All you have to do is refer to the file name of the pic for a description of it. For instance, I have one pic called "plant #1 top." So, obviously, that means it is a top view of plant #1.
Thanks for posting Jesse... It's refreshing to see other people's ops...

Flower Room

Just for a reminder...Plants 1 and 2 are the big girls that got the most light during veg and are about 50 days into flower or so, give or take. Plants 3 and 4 both are smaller because they didnt get much light. Plant #3 is all stretched to fuck, and plant #4 has gone hermie! But I want to keep her (him?) because this phenotype has the most crystals and the best smelling nugs! So if I get a few seeds, so be it. What are your guys' opinions about that?

How much longer does it look like I have to you? The gnat problem is still here. I think the Go Gnats pissed off my plants. Either that or I gave them too much Clearex, or they have a P or K deficiency. I am not sure what. Anyone wanna hazard a guess? Anyway, the gnats are managable.

I am thinking I have about another month or so. But not sure really at all. Gimmie some feedback and if you have questions hit me up!
You have a microscope, right?!?!?!

Check and harvest when the trichs start to turn amber...

You know the schpeal right? milky (imature bud) will give you a lighter brainy stone... while the amber trichs (mature bud) will give more of a narcotic high.. the proverbial couch lock...

Go with that, it's science.. there is no guessing... in time you will learn what the buds look like when they are done... but you must have a solid starting point to base your knowledge from, and the micrscope is just that...

Big plants, little plants, shade, stretch...

Sorry Jesse... I am not very happy with your arrangement there...

It's not as bad as I have seen on here, but you have created quite the "shade farm"...

Everyone like BIG BUSHES... but in my opinion, they are no very easy to manage....

a SCROG is the best way for big girls indoors, but that is also a lot of work and almost an art form... experience is required success... or luck will work too...

May I suggest doing single cola lollipops..?

They do not shade each other nearly as bad... and because they are shorter, they are dense nugs top to bottom...

I would flower those seedlings and trim them Al B. Fuct style... my last 12/12 from seed gave me 3/4 oz per plant.. BEAUTIFUL PHAT NUGZ...

But it is just my opinion...

It makes me cringe... you have 800+ watts in your op and you got this much plant matter in the shade...

But I must say that those buds do look tasty...

Jesse I hope you realize I am just hittting you where I think there is room for improvement...

You have a good grow going and my intention is not to knock you down AT ALL...

I am just poking you a bit so we can make all of our grows even better than they are...

;-)

as for the hermie... I would kill that plant ASAP...

If pollen gets in your grow room, chances are you will have seeds forever....

Polle gets everywhere, that is how it does it's job... it stays viable for a long time.. and it will pollinate your females, that IS it's job...

Get rid of it in my opinion... or be ready to thoroughly sterelize your op...

Big nono in my book... but there are folks out there that grow for the seeds.. so I can imagine my opinion is just one in an infinite sea of opinions...

Veg Room

So, I included shots of the new seedlings! They were planted on 2/25 and most of them sprouted the next day, but they were all up by 2/27. So they are a couple weeks old, give or take a day.

They dry out really fast. I have a bitch of a time keeping the humidity anywhere about 45%. That, combined with that fact that I have 24/0 light, small cups (thus little water retention) has caused some of the leaves to turn really brittle and crumble. Anyone have advice or thoughts on this?

I am getting some PHENOMENAL root growth though! The rootzone and humic acid and such in the Light Warrior has really paid off, combined with letting the little ones dry out in between waterings. Since the cups are clear, I can see everything! Check it out! I am also getting some green residue on the inside of the cups. I think this is good fungus or something, but I am not sure. Anyone know what it might be? Its really lush green color.
Algae... oh boy... if you give moisture and light... shit will grow man... sometimes I don't even know what's growing, but our Planet Earth is an amazing place... a little warmth, light and water and ho and behold... there is GREEN SHIT EVERYWHERE....

I blame the clear cups...

Since I am doing hydro (my soil days were in unattended fields, I was there 2 times.. planting and harvesting) I won't be much help...

BUT IF YOU SWITCHED TO EBB/FLOW, you could just add a bit of H2O2 or Hygrozyme to your res.... They would break down all that stuff into elements that the plants can use.. and they are both great pathogen controllers IN HYDRO... don't even know how you would use it on soil...

Was the hint there subtle enough...?

If you go with ebb/flow, you can get away with going in your op once week.. though I like to make sure my pumps are oumoing daily...

It is truly the lazy stoner's best friend... cheap to build too...

Oh and did I mention that I think you should flower the seedlings NOW and trim them Al B. Fuct style????

Hit me up if you need more info on the trim job..

Random

Just for fun, I posted some pics of all my nutes. You can barely see the Clearex in the top right corner. Check out the root zone people, its great. I believe it can replace hugely expensive things like Taratula and Perahna (spelling). But, you be the judge. It's only $20 a bottle as compared to the others....great buy for me!
WOW...

I have no idea what most of that stuff is... but it looks fancy enough... lol...

I use almost nothing compared to you...

I also included a pic of the giant 2700K CFL in action, mounted next to a 23 watter for a side-by-side. These things are sweet. So, I now have a total of 823 actual watts of 2700K CFL going in the flower room. Crazy shit huh?
How do you cool 800 watts of CFLs??? it's got to be a freaking nightmare...

I only have 207 actual watts of 6500K CFL for the veg room. BUT, check this out...I ran into a Craiglist posting and this guy has TONS of CHEAP HID lighting! He is selling 150 watt metal halide ballasts and sockets for $25 and $30 for 250 watters! He is local and all the stuff is originally from construction sites I believe, but this could be great!!! I meet with him tomorrow!
We need to get you to realize that you will be wasting a lot of money over the next couple of years...

DON'T....

listen to me .. please....

If you believe you will continue growing for at least 3 or 4 more grows... and I believe we ALL are... get the right tools for the job...

I am serious Jesse... look at my progression...I started in a hotel room with a stck Aerogarden... and before I realized what I trying to get across to you, I upgraded ventilation and lighting a bunch of times... wasting a bunch of money....

Once I realized what was going on, I decided to STOP FUCKING AROUND...

I built the tent, and yes I have overgrown it, but every piece of equipment I bought for the tent is applicable to my current, and bigger op....

I didn't know I was going to go bigger, but I knew that if I decidedto, I didn't want to upgrade AGAIN....

Dude.. I recomend you buy the end all... the last piece you will ever need...

buy a big fan.. a big light.. set it up properly and it will pay for itself 10 fold in a few grows...

I recommend what I am using...

H.O. T-5s for veging and air cooled 600 HPS for flowering...

Less power than you are using now and better results guaranteed...

Way easier to control the temps... way denser nugs, and with ebb/flow, bigger and faster yet...

WELL GIMMIE SOME LOVE PEOPLE!!!! :LEAF::LEAF::LEAF::LEAF:
You are doing AWSOME Jesse...

I hope you get where I am coming from with all my opinions...

You deserve kudos and +rep everyday... you are doing a gret job.!!!

Oh yea i found these at the thrift store
(pictures)$50BUX EACH!! AND THEY HAD TWO BOLTED TOGETHER AS A PAIR I MIGHT TRY TO GRAB THAT ONE IF THEY DONT CHARGE ME DOUBLE:)
Here is a classic example of different attitudes...

I would never allow male flowers in my op, unless I was breeding...

And Wink... I would stay away from those ballasts... I know buying the right equpment is more expensive, but believe me, you are growing gold... it will pay for the equipment.. FAST...

Buying cheap, used stuff is like asking for nightmares before going to bed...

I like new... and they still fail sometimes...

damn jesse you got alot of power there !

I just hope you guys are being safe with all those bulbs and wiring...

I have almost started a fire because of me being a dumbass and thinking some not ok would be ok...:dunce:

Yeah I learned a valuable lesson though...

Don't waste all your money on CFL's! I have spent at least 3 or 400 bucks. Too much.

I wish I had your problem! My temps are too high and my humidity is too low!!
Don't waste you money... PERIOD...

You need a 600 HPS with a cooltube and a dedicated 4" 170 CFM centrifugal fan to cool it.. draw in fresh, ouside air... and dump it outside your op, away form your intake and completely independent from your op's airmass...

Then we need to get you a tray or two and get you going in a direction that leaves no room for guessing... you follow the recipe exactly and get the appropriate results EVERTIME...

Gotta say that LOW RH is a good thing in the flower room..

word, theres only 2 42w 2700k CFLs that i wasted money on cuz im not using them .... but i wish i had got a 600 hps .... oh well i might add those 2 42 cfls to flowering
One thing that a lot of people don't realize, is the fact that budget grow ops have put out sime of the most expensive bud on the planet...

I get just over a pound from a 600 HPS... I am getting closer and closer to the 1g/1w mark...

Grams per Watt... might as well be grams per dollar burned....

Once the equipment is paid off (first grow and you should have a chunk of change), you have some basic costs...

Electricity being the biggest...

Think about it...

The only way to get cheap buds is to make your op as efficient as possible... and that is not in comaprison to what your op is today... that is in comparison to IDEAL/PERFECT conditions...

Figure out your g/w ratio and do some math... you will see that it makes prefect sense to buck up and get the right shit THE FIRST TIME...

That way you can be proud of smoking your good herb knowing that it actually cost you less than buying it from street...

Budget grows put out expensive nugs... proper ops put out better buds at a lower cost...

OK who wants to argue now???? lol...

I am just kidding...

ALL THIS IS JUST MY NEWB OPINION...

in the end, you should ALWAYS GO WITH WHAT YOU KNOW....

that way, only you can be blamed....

Cheers and best of luck...

I'll swing back by later... :bigjoint:

Yeah I agree with you. I have created a shade factory, and a whole lot of my plant's energy is going and has gone into unneccesary vegetation. But, like I was sayin in the PM, I have sure learned alot. Don't worry about hurting my feelings, I am all about constructive criticism. People being assholes, well that's different. Well take a look at the pics I posted below and let me know what you think. I have done my best to lollipop them. 3/18 and they will be 21 days from sprout so I figured this is the best time to do it if I am going to. What's more, I took the 6 biggest clippings and put them in some water with Superthrive added, about 7 drops each cup. Then, I cut off a gallon water jug top and added some holes, misted the little cuttings, and put the now smaller jug over the top. Maybe I will get some clones, maybe not. Like experiment...

As for the algae...fuck. Well as you can see, I have transplanted into 8" pots. So, will the algae continue to grow with no light and cause a problem?

Yes, I want to copy your hydro set-up. I sent you a PM about it. PM me back if you feel bored and want to give me the information I will need bro. Much appreciated, as always.

<quote>

Yeah, it's fun for me. Just the three Fox Farm liquid ferts, the three bloom ferts, some PH up, my PH tester for my nute soup, Clearex (which I think was a waste), Superthrive for B1, GoGnats (fuckers), and Root Zone is great beneficial root bacteria and fungus. I think its more a soil thing though, no interest for you.

<quote>How do you cool 800 watts of CFLs??? it's got to be a freaking nightmare...</quote>

Not really, actually. Since it's all in a closet, I just leave the door open. I have a small fan inside that moves air around, and a large box fan pointed out from the door to cool the room and exchange the air. I can keep it at 82 max consistantly.

Well, I am sold. PM me back and forth and help me get set-up if you wont mind!

As for the general update, I have added Carboload from AN as well as backstrap molasses. So, maybe I will have some nice tasty nugs!

I transplanted the little ones out of the clear containers into 8" black pots, with a mix of Ocean Forest and Light Warrior, 3 to 1, respectively. I added one tablespoon of dolamite lime and 1 tablespoon of root zone per gallon, mixed it all up, and bam! This is by far the best soil I have ever grown in. Very nice stuff! So, the little once in the veg room seem all happy! Ok people, well that was a lot so get back at me!! GROW BIG!!!

and just for the record i totally got my moneys worth and way more out of my cfl run! i have no regrets and i will still be using some cfls in my next grow! i spent 120.00bux total for my whole room . i got that back on the first time i chopped some nugs off! and after all is said and done i a happy camper! and i have two milk crates full of used hps and mh just waiting to be installed i got extras for parts in case i run into problems!

Hey Wink... I just thought I'd mention that I do not have anything bad to say about any type of grow...

But you happened to create the correct environment at a low price... I consider that luck...

It's kinda like Vette saying he has never checked pH...

Sure... he may never have... but that does not change the fact that his water was at the correct pH to begin with...

It's not how much of what you have.. it's all about the environment...

With that said, there are tools out there that will help you achieve that...

Unfortunately, the more control you want, the more complicated it gets...

Simple works if you have a place that works...

I totally believe that there is a place and time for HIDs, T-5s and CFLs...

But you gotta remember, not everyone has perfect pH water or a set up that works efficiently...

Let's play with some numbers... just for kicks...

Last harvest, or best harvest,

What was your gram/watt ratio...???

My last grow was 511 grams under a 600 HPS...

That represents 0.85grams per watt...

And I know several areas that I can still improve my op... :eyesmoke:

Yeah I hear you and thanks for the info. But I want to keep her/him, what can I say. I will take due care cleaning the room posthence though, thanks to your warning. I hadn't thought about the reasilancy of pollen...

Not cleaning... STERILIZING...!!!

Jesse they look real good, but I think that some of the may require some additional trimming...

Things like these.... those branches are small now, but they will grow out...

I would cut these off and leave the budsite right at the stalk intact, but you are vegging and there is no budsite yet... pretty sure one will form regardless though.. so leave the fan leaf and a bit of that branch when you trim... but I would wait longer.. not need to cut everything off in a hurry...

As for the algae...fuck. Well as you can see, I have transplanted into 8" pots. So, will the algae continue to grow with no light and cause a problem?

NO... it will not keep pestering you.. I suppose it could die and decompose and cause disease.. but I am sure you are pretty safe.. it was just a little bit...

Yes, I want to copy your hydro set-up. I sent you a PM about it. PM me back if you feel bored and want to give me the information I will need bro. Much appreciated, as always.

I just replied to your pm...

I think in Hydro, less is more a lot of times...

82F..?!?!?!?!?! are you fucking kidding me?????

and you are happy with that???

No way you ar going to get very dense nugs with those temps...

Most things will live on a broad set of conditions... survive in an even broader spectrum of environmental conditions..

But in order to THRIVE... things have to meet very specific criteria...

82F is just too hot Jesse...

I like 72F in the morning and eve and a max around 76.8F for the peak of the heat...

Nights are kept at about 65F...

I have found that my Sativa likes to feel cold the last few weeks... I keep dayst down to 72F max and they dense up real nice...

It's all about control man...

I can control the temp in my op within a few degrees... with a twist of dial... $27 thermostat on my intake fan... simple as shit...

Well, I am sold. PM me back and forth and help me get set-up if you wont mind!

OK.. we need to figure out the size and budget for this...

If we are to do this together, I will have a lot of questions for you...

As for the general update, I have added Carboload from AN as well as backstrap molasses. So, maybe I will have some nice tasty nugs!

Hope so...:weed:

So, the little once in the veg room seem all happy! Ok people, well that was a lot so get back at me!! GROW BIG!!!

The tag is on you now, big guy...

Let me know what is on your mind...

Thanks for all the feedback gypsy! I havent gotten the PM yet...weird. When i do i will respond.

I was misinformed then. My plants start off in the morning at about 62 to 65F.

They get up to a max of 82. I guess I will see what I can do to get the drop for the short term. Ultimately I want to have cooltubes and ditch the CFLs. So no argument there. For the short term. I need to figure out how to better cool my CFLs...

I will watxh the trichs. I really dont think i need much of a flush. I have used all organics, and i have read a lot of conflicting reports about the real neccesity of final flushing. what do you think?

As for the additional trimming, I was kinda figuring. But, less is more for now. As they grow out I will trim more. I didnt want to attack them, as Al would say, given my confidence level with lollipopping is limited and once its cut, its cut right? :-)

Well, i will PM you back once i get it...

Exhaust... that is what gets rid of heat...

Flushing is very controversial...

I cure long, so I do not flush...

But I going to flush half of the next batch just to look for the difference again...

On his Al B. Faqt thread, Caligirld gives a really nice picture example of trimming for SOG... it's in the first 10 pages for sure.. around oage 5 or 6 I think...

Well, i will PM you back once i get it...
ok...

Hey guys this is my 420th post!

I want to mark the occasion by saying thanks to all of you out there in the RIU community who have stopped by to give advice, opinions, humor, and encouragement. Special thanks to Winkdogg for posting all my pics, Gypsy and Weedman for all their help and feedback!

It's really a shame that mankind has to create an us versus them, a winner and a loser. Maybe someday we will all really be free, but until then, long live the peaceful resistance and GrOw BiG!

Thanks bro I hope so too!

Mount up, mutter fuckers! I am glad too bro!

So a little update....I watered the Barbwire youngsters for the first time since transplanting (well, i watered them right when i transplanted, but you get what i mean). I used two tablespoons of big bloom and 2 teaspoons of grow big per gallon, along with a drop of superthrive. They look nice and happy!

The 2 big girls flowering are really starting to swell. I think I mayb be entering into the final phases, as i have about 5-7% amber trichs. So, i will check them regularly and let you guys know! Before I chop I am gonna post some good pics of each plant by itself, so people can guess weight. I hope I get at least an ounce of each of the two big girls! They vegged for two months so jeez...

I will be paying like $12 per gram for my own stuff lol, watch. I wasted a lot of money. Oh well, I have learned my lesson there!

Gypsy my room is 6 feet wide, 3 feet deep, and 6 feet tall. I have managed to get the daytime temps down to a constant and relaible 78 degrees F. So they start at 62, 63 and get up to 78, which is a 16-17 degree drops. Ideal, yes? My RH is down to 40% during the day in the flower room.....nice :-)

Ok guys get back to me!

No doubt! Ah well, in the long run, it was worth the investment in terms of what I have learned!! Thanks for stopping by! :joint:

i broke my first bulb the other day....im still happy with my cfls ...but the hids are gettin wired up now!
Yeah, I can't say that I am happy with my CFL's. I want gigantic buds, lol! My CFL's just haven't given them to me! I think that if I would have pruned my plants better, had better ventilation, watered a bit less (amount) and a bit more (frequency), etc etc etc, then maybe I would be satisfied, who knows...

So I checked the trichs on both plants 1 and 2. I have about 25% amber or more on some samples. So, I have decided that tomorrow will be their chop time. Once I turn the lights off here shortly, they will sit in the dark for 24 hours and then I am gonna cut the whole stalk and hang the whole plant upsidedown until it's nice and dry. I plan on curing well and I used organics, so I am not worried about a flush. I did water them today with one gallon, but the only thing I added was 1/3 teaspoon of AN Carboload and 1 tablespoon of molasses. SO....poll time!! Guess my yield (dry weight)!! I will be 100% honest, don't worry!

Next, I found some cheap used HPS ballasts, reflectors, and bulbs at a "re-build" store. They were $10 bucks each! 250 watt HPS! I have one wired up and running now, check out the pics! I ditched the CFL's in my veg room and hooked up the HPS to test it out. Works great. Runs hot though, I am having temp issues, like 80F. Working on it though. :-|

Once I chop the two big girls tomorrow, I will have my big closet to work with though. So, for now, I plan on having 2X 250 watt HPS' going. I plan on picking a mother and cloning her to feed a constant 12/12 cycle, no veg. Just a few CFL's to keep mom alive. Gypsy is going to help me plan out my new system in time, but this is better in the short term and only cost me $20 bucks. I will use less power, have less heat, and get more bang. I don't think the heat will be an issue in the now-flower room, given that its way bigger than my current veg room, where I have the HPS hooked up and am having trouble getting the temp below 80F.

Well anyway, I am blazed as shit and have rambled on long enough. Good night and GrOw BiG!!! :peace: :joint: :leaf:
