use your stupidity to your advantage. the situation is so absurd that nobody would believe it was true. if and when they catch the guy and he starts telling them what actually happened, they probably wont go for it.
personally, i would get a lawyer. if anyone asks why you need representation, just say you dont trust the credit card company to handle things the way you want them to be handled. the lawyer will find a way to put all the blame on the other guy and youll be free. it will probably cost you a few grand though. better than going to jail..
for future reference, most credit cards have some sort of cash advance program that allows you to get cash from your credit card. the only catch is that most credit cards are not linked to a specific bank and they will charge you a $3 service fee for using a foreign atm. then they charge you a $10 fee for the cash advance.
