Im considering purchasing a wireless web cam for my cab BUT Id like one which will allow me to view the cab from any internet connection any where in the world with great security features (so only I can view whats in the cab) also it must not display those flickering videos caused by the HPS lighting.

SO WHICH ONE WOULD YOU FELLAS RECOMMEND?

This is an interesting idea. If you want only somethign you can see, go with the linksys security cams. Ill give you a link in a second. They connect to your router and you can access it anywhere.

Umm.

Just buy an X10 cam, a cheap USB TV Tuner, and set up a VPN so you can just turn on the cam when you want and take a look.

No need to get all that expensive stuff.

Considering how Linksys is owned by Cisco and considering how recently many Cisco products have been getting compromised more often I wouldn't trust Linksys products.

Just speaking from 20+ years of experience. Secure your own VPN and hook up a tv tuner and an X10. Much more secure.

Cisco products have had vulnerabilities and fixes for years, it is the nature of the industry. It will create a product, and unless it can create a fix, it will destroy that product. It's called technology. No reason to assume that any specific device is more or less safe than another based on the brand name.

I wrote a guide about a year ago on how to set up a grow cam, inside of your grow room. I used a wired USB webcam for the example, but you can definitely use the guide just the same with a wireless webcam as the device acting as the cam would be the device recieving the wireless signals of the camera.

You can view that thread here: https://www.rollitup.org/do-yourself/102927-diy-guide-grow-cam-remote.html

I tend to not trust a company that sues people for finding vulnerabilities in their products and announce those vulnerabilities, especially when it's being done for the good of the community.

Bad Mojo. Instant loss of trust.

and why would that matter to someone looking at a webcam?

Thread op: Before you buy anything for the rest of your life, check milw0rm.com to see if it is safe to use :roll::dunce:

KaliKitsune: Im assuming with a TV tuner Id have to link the cam with wires, the web cam must be wireless.

Madhadda:
Thank for the link I like that cam very much but Im concerned if the HPS's intensity will cause the flickering images. Did you get the quote "Boom!" from Ari Gold?

GrowTech:
Thanks for links Ill read through it.

There are many web cam on the net all claiming to be THE ONE. I just need to make sure the image is crystal clear & that there is absolutely NO flickering/wavy lines on the video stream, I cant even ring up the support team to ask "Does this web cam react well when exposed to a bright HPS light?" You know wat I mean. What factors or features should I pay attention to so that I can be certain that the vivd/bright HPS wont affect the cam?

No, the X10 camera is not wired, except for the need for a power outlet to plug into. It transmits on 2.4 GHZ and it works just fine viewing HPS lights, T5HO Fluorescents, Metal Halide, etc. these are security cameras.

It's easy. Get one X10 camera and receiver. Go find yourself an old cheap USB TV Tuner, like the Sabran TV-USB20. Plug receiver into TV-USB20, plug TV-USB20 into computer. Go plug the camera in your grow room, and point the antenna back towards where the receiver is located.

From there, there's software on the net that will let you monitor that as a webcam source, or you can create a virtual private network tunnel that is accessible from anywhere and directly access the PC, and turn the cam on when you want it turned on.

You've already got the computer. The tuner I mention is like 30 bucks on pricewatch.com and the X10 camera you can find off ebay for 20 or so with receiver.

Or you can just drop $100 and get the entire X11 setup: http://www.x10.com/promotions/xx11a_wireless_security_cameras_home_burst.html?QL

All kinds of easy and cheap ways to do stuff.

I know the X10 cameras work under HPS. I used to use one for monitoring my old Memphis grow.

Considering most security cams monitor places that use HPS/MH/MV lighting, yea, these won't give ya flicker.

Ive been searching for the X10 cameras & it doesnt seem to be available here in the U.K. DAMN! I hate it when that happens. Ill keep searching...

what happens when the local hacker get into your signal and possibly report it for growing?

I did ask for security features, but then again theres always one hacker who can break past the firewalls huh? If he/she succeeds in catching my signal he/she would have to find out where the location of the cam is, but saying that the signal & receiver can act as a radar :?. What would you suggest? Dont say "Dont get a web cam" he he.

War drivers look for WIRELESS NETWORK SIGNALS.

Good luck breaking into and decrypting an ANALOG video transmission when there's no TV in existence that can tune to the 2.4GHz range. You're not triangulating jack, you're only going to manage to get a snowfield if even that.

LMAO no shit captain obvious...

please re-read the title of the thread again...

better yet, ill help you.... keywords: wireless cam!

not to mention...you honestly cant think that home security/web camera are truly secure. you get what you pay for, especially in the costly game of tech security.

and you cant be so naive as to think something is encrypted... you obviously are speaking from no experience

btw, here are some old and new links for you to ponder on.

dont be so naive. anything can be cracked and hacked. anything.

if our electrical grid can get hacked, your web cam is no different nor any harder to crack....cakewalk!

whoa now, there is a big difference between an electrical grid that relies on computers, and wireless video transmittion which cannot be viewed by just any device...

What kali is tying to say is that even if a signal COULD be read and understood (Which is not likely) they couldnt prove or identify where the signal came from anyhow.

i will be ordering one of those. i really dont worry to much am a legal med patient.
so police dont worry me to much. i am no dealer or huge grower.
and no one is getting in my room. and leaving with both hands.

you dont think tracking something down with gps is possible?

i mean, im just a paranoid nut case, dont listen to me....just offering a slice of reality
