harvesting during the dark period doesnt matter. I have heard that you can leave them in total darkness for 3 days before you harvest and its supposed to make them plump up cause they are stressing to pollinate before they die but I dont know about that either. Anyways the date given on the package is the bare minimum amount of time most plants can wait at least another 2-3 weeks.

I can't wait to see how mine will turn out with the extra flowering.It says between 8 and 10 weeks indoor, but I'm gonna go at least 12, and possibly more if she seems like she's doing ok. But I have heard that if you flower too long, sometimes females won't exactly go full hermie, but they will produce "bananas" in an attempt to pollinate themselves. Anyone know for sure?

Not sure Stoney, I could see that with too much stress maybe but as for flowering I dont think they would. Then again Im not too sure either so good Question.

Ok not to say I didnt trust fdd I was able to do some following up on the comment fdd made well I believe it was him anyway, Someone said the like the first 3 weeks into flower the trichs are already turning amber and milky. Well I checked my Ultra Haze 2 clones that went into flower 3 or so weeks ago and they do actually have a bit of amber and definately milky mind you these Ultra Haze have a 16 week flowering so I think theres definate truth. Peace out yall

Harvesting during hours of darkness or as early into the light of the day/lights as possible does matter. Sunlight/grow light breaks down THC so harvesting when it is dark or before plants have much light will assure a higher level of THC.

Also giving plants 72 hours of darkness does increase the level of THC and it can increase it dramatically.


The Stichting Institute of medical marijuana (SIMM), the first company to sell marijuana through the pharmicies of Holland, has been investigating the medical possibilities of cannabis, together with TNO laboritories and the University of Leiden.

One of their discoveries has been that to keep the ripe plants in the dark before harvesting could increase their potency.

SIMM's growers seperated a crop of mature plants, harvested half of them and kept the other half in absolute darkness for 72 hours before cutting and drying.

Analysis of the resulting dried buds showed that some varieties had seen increases of THC of up to 30 %, while the CBD and CBN remained the same.

This is fascinating if its true. Can you provide a link to the white paper for the research?
