:fire:Led's suck!!!
what you own one, or you just making these assessments from observations, or reading others post? HPS is not the answer either. Latest reports are that HPS doesn't bring out the maximine strength of one's plant! If LED is lousy, why would NASA use it?

Nasa? weight and power consumption. (and they aren't looking to feed the crew of the space station, just experiments with small plants.)

HPS ain't it? (its still king of the hill) well, no man made light thus far can compete with the sun

just because madcow is hatin on the leds doesnt mean you have to belive him i love leds i may only use them for cloning and vegging but the do work great and the heat is never a problem and you can ask some other people about the leds just check my posts off of my profile and you can see the results.

The UFO is the LED light you want.. it is the smallest "high powered" LED light out. Or whatever you want to call it. Next up would be the 120w and 300, 350, 600, 700... but next down is like a 55w panel that, by and large, have been a dissappointment. There are many positive grows with the newer UFO lights.

oh yeah so cost might be an issue though as you are looking at about $300+ for any worthwhile LED light (UFO or HTG 120w) so you are probably better off with a cheapo HPS like maybe a 150w or whatever I'm not sure on the small sizes... CFL's are nice too but they can also disappoint ;)

I could BUILD you an insanely powerful 1-4 sq foot array, acer, for about 400 smackaroos shipped tehehe:hump:

and an NDA:mrgreen:

1 plant justifies an led set up,

any more than 4 or 9 plants and you're getting into the space and price that justifies an HID set up. But murury vapor doesn't compete on this micro scale.

And in my experience thus far,

sufficient wattages of red dees are much superior and cooler running than cfl's for whats going on here.

and throw in a repti sun uvb cfl and you'll be yielding, and stressing the plant to be a resin producer.

women don't care for blue leds when they are in flower, they'll grow, or swell, towards the reds. Only during veg do they like blue, and with sufficient veg, you dont need to throw much blue during flower.

And no matter what you're gonna need cooling acer, and of more than just 2 120mm fans to keep it below 90 in a small space with any kind of decent wattage.

The lightblaze 400 is a nice unit, it runs 600 and is good for one plant. It's a nice self contained unit, however over priced.

There is no escaping the need for wattage for adequate flowering, which necessitates more ventialtion and creativity in construction than you're probably willing to put in.

If you can't do it right, because of space and stealth constraints, than its probably not worth it to try. A plant in a pot with rope leds isnt gonna do shit other than grow nice and weak.

that aquarium set up is nice, very similar to what I've been doing,

simply less horticultural in terms of power and densities.

I build my own clean hanging arrays from similar materials for around 300 dollars, the problem with most of these supplies is economy of scale,

i.e. its really only worth it expense wise if your buying in larger quantities, especially considering high power, high lumen dees.

peace

Dude, the build principles are all the same...

simple, calculated resistance circuits driven by a powerful dc source...

The creativity really comes in with your heat sink solution,

which is wholly dependent on which leds you choose.

Ummm, yeah obviously. And just as obviously it is nice to view and get ideas from other DIY builds.

You should post pics of your light--you talked it up enough. You can see my LED results in me LED SHIT album. Quite impressive.

I am trying to get a light for blooming 5 lowryder's, i cannt get hps as i am growing in a small closet and it wont fit and cant risk the heat. I use a Syverstar t5 4 bulb 4 ft currently and was trying to kick it up for next time would the 92w UFO yield similar to a 400 hps and can the UFO handle 5 lowryders

I think it would work, especially with a few CFL's thrown in the mix. I haven't tried flowering with mine, but it is doing great for veg. I am flowering with a 350w LED using the same tri-band as the UFO and it works great--so I suspect the UFO would too.

206 has a grow going with a 120w LED and is flowering

I think the main problem is cost of the high performance LEDs (the 90w UFO or 120w HTG for example) especially for smaller grows... jut isn't practical sometimes.

yeah ive only got 300 bucks to get something although my friend has a metal halide and it isnt hot would that be safe to put in a closet and would that be a upgrade for flowering from the t5 4 bulb
