a myth? rootbound is very real, you really shouldnt spread your experiences as fact.

1. Signs of a Rootbound Plant

The pot has been filled with roots and there is very little soil left

Because there is very little soil left when you water, it goes right through and drains out, nothing is retained

The plant wilts within a day or two of watering, because with very little soil, no moisture is retained

The roots are growing out of the drainage holes

The roots are cracking the pot

The plant is top heavy or way too big for the size of the container

roots like to grow down not around. by keeping ur plant in a tiny pot its not growing in ideal conditions. ideal conditions yield the most bud. of course as hedgehunter said, u can still manage in small pots, but thats at the risk of reducing your total yield.

here is some very real info on this "myth"? (i think not)

I've never seen root bound.

I grew this in 6" and 44oz cups.

Lots more root room

Some root balls

44 oz cup harvest around day 80.

I grow in clear cups w/holes in bottom for water drains. I cut the bottom out of the color cup and use as a sleeve.

You can watch roots without light harming them.

You can use diff colors (I use red and blue) to help keep track of the plants.

as i said...in the whole, on here... it is a myth, people keep looking for an easy answer to their plant problems, i have seen and grown plenty of plants in very small containers with no problem and minimal yield disturbance, ofcorse i do except 1gallon per ft of growth is best.

Root-bound is not a myth and anyone who tells you that it is a myth does not understand plants and knows little to nothing about botany.

Marijuana is a weed and it is very tough and resilient and because of that it can grow fairly well in harsh abusive conditions. Many people will grow in conditions that are far less than optimal but because marijuana plants are to tough and resilient the final outcome is still enough to be impressive to those people so they wrongly assume that they did things correctly. What they do not realize is that what impressed them would have been more impressive had they done things correctly.

Once a plants roots begin to circle the pot they are in the plant is under a degree of stress. The more the roots circle and become tightly packed the more the stress increases and the more likely the plants will be to suffer the following problems.

Root-bound:
Root-bound is where the roots of your plant outgrow the container they are contained in.

The following symptoms may be observed if you allow your plants to become root-bound:

  1. Stunted Growth.
  2. Stretching.
  3. Smaller and slower bud production.
  4. Needs watering too often.
  5. Easy to burn with low % nutrient solution mixtures.
  6. Wilting.

ill agree, they werent rootbound and they provided a fair yield, but i think ur missing the key word here hedgehunter, OPTIMAL, meaning you get MAX yield. everyone grows differently, some people arent worried about yield because they do a ton of smaller plants. my preference however is to max out a plant in optimal conditions, aka most bang for your buck.
im not gonna hate on the guy at all, but why would i grow 10 plants when i can get the same yield off of one? personal preferance thats why.
