i say flower for as long as you can with the space that you have to work with.. its not like the thc will start disappearing.. just watch the heat and your plants will tell you when their ready

actually it does start to degrade after a certain point.
"The THC degradation process accelerates as flowers develop and fall."

ie dont wait for 100% withered pistils.

yepper.. THC begins to degrade after peak of the harvest window.. the harvest window (usually 1 week span of time) will be apparent once trichomes go about 70% cloudy, 20% amber, 10% clear.. at least, that is how I like MY bud, but different people like different kind of highs.. really the only way to know peak harvest moment is to keep monitoring the trichomes with a microscope.. people, stop talking about total flowering time or color of pistils or height of plant or number of weeks for a certain strain or any other nonsense.. it IS possible to grow a 6 inch tall plant and then begin 12/12 and have it go to 1.5 feet and ripe within about 5 weeks! but the buds will be little skimpy bastards that may get you somewhat high but will not have the kind of yield or overall weight that you could have had if you would have vegged/flowered for longer, not to even mention the differences in light levels, nutrient levels, strain characteristics..etc etc.. simply watch for the ratio of clear/cloudy/amber trichomes on the actual bud sites!! cheers

conciousness420 is absolutely correct. that window with most indica sativa hybrids is between 55-60 days. subcool had a cool thread on another board called "Amber Alert," i took the following from that post-

"Take for instance the Jacks Cleaner harvested at fifty-six days; all trichomes are still visibly clear with very few turning cloudy. At this point it has a very ‘up’ high and an ‘in-the-head’ buzz. I get some good visuals and the lemon flavor is sour and a tad tart. The same plant, left just one more week at sixty-three days flower; the trichomes have turned milky white and a good portion, about thirty to fifty percent, are deep amber almost the color of cola. Taken at this time the smoke is heavy and thick, the lemon zing has been replaced with a musty sweet lemon smell that reminds me of ‘Lemon Heads’ candy. The high is now all body high and very much a sedative. We would smoke this only as our night time medication. It is almost an example of a plant taken too late, however we do this because of the medicinal properties she takes-on at this late stage.
Another example is Killer Queen. At forty-nine days flower, she has a candy-like smell and taste with that same ‘up’ high. If you were to harvest her at sixty days flower, she becomes ‘Super’ Killer Queen, with a more skunk-like smell and a thicker trance-like high." - Amber Alert by Subcool 3/3/06

You gotta make that window so that you can get the most outta all the time and money you have invested.

Good replys. Im hoping to harvest around day 55-60. Thats only another 15-20 days. Im glad I didnt cut anything off of her yet and I took a thorough examination of the trichomes with my microscope. I'm a firm believer it will be worth the wait. Can't wait to harvest and move onto grow #2 then grow #3 and so on and so fourth. And I'll just keep on growing and keep on learning. Thanks RIU! I really pulled this grow off 50% of info I learned here and 50% of common sense. Couldn't of done it without all the great info posted here.

Just a question for you all.... you start counting your flowering period the day you see first hairs right? a plant is not flowering just because you put it into 12/12. So if your counting that, your gonna have to minus 10-20 days depending on how long it took to show sex.

My belief is that you start counting from the first day you put them into 12/12. Not that it really matters if you are watching your plants for peak ripeness to harvest.

Different people do things differently but most count day 1 of bloom as being the first day they flipped their light cycle to 12 hours of light/12 hours darkness. Your plant has to be sexually mature enough to create those preflowers so what I do, is veg for at least one month. after that your plant will be able to show sex that first week you stick em in 12/12. if you veg long enough, you can see those preflowers without even being in 12/12. personally, i don't like plants too much taller than 3 or 4 feet based on size constraints in my grow tent, so i veg a month on average. i always top early and prune every couple weeks.

You are NOT in flower until you see the hairs of your first flower...that is usually 10-14 days after you start the "Flowering light cycle" 12/12

............................................................This is the start of flower.................................................................................

Thats where some people get it wrong...They will tell ya they are in week 2 of flower but they have no buds...when actually they are just starting to get their first flower formation

.......................................This is what 2 weeks of flower looks like................................................

isnt that a little late, those eraser size buds started to develop probably a week before what is shown, I have to disagree with what is flowering and what is not. You call it what you want. When you start the 12 and 12 light cycle or when the buds first develop, either way the shits growing just have fun with it. To be honest the only time you can really say day 1 of flowering is when your plant is sexually mature and has already shown its sex, and you happen to put it into 12 and 12 that is day 1.

I been counting since the night I switched to 12/12. Got the female white pistils in 6 days from the start of 12/12. I dont think it matters much. Seeing as most people are checking the buds and determining harvest time anyways

Exactly my point so when you say you have a 9 or 10 week flowering "cause the breeder says" exactly my point. THERE IS NO SET TIME FOR A PLANT FLOWERING. GET A CLUE!

Thats why you cant go by what the box of seeds says and have to go by pistils(hairs). Even with the SAME EXACT SEED, under different conditions it will grow differently....go figure. You and your buddy could have the same seeds and yours takes 6 days to show flower and his takes 20 days. for this reason i have never even taken the given time period for flowering into consideration when growing. You will know a DONE bud from a bud thats been harvested according to the tome on the package. And the DONE bud will always be twice as big. keep us updated man

you dont go buy the pistols (hairs). you go by the color of the trichs. using a jewelers loupe when you want to harvest. but i agree with everything else.

smoke and coke.............i love coke too by the way lol......but anyways we weren't talking about how to tell when the bud was done. I was telling them that you dont start counting how long you have been budding until you get your first pistils(hairs). Alot of people start counting when they turn to 12/12 which is not the start of flowering. You prob just caught the last page of posts so its all good. But most people on here will tell you they have been flowering for 25 days, when really, its only been 8 days......u see what im gettin at?

I just found out recently that everyone else.... including breeders of the seeds....start countiong the day they start cutting the lights.......So when a breeder pack say 9-10 weeks flower they mean from the time you start cutting your lights

I have always counted your way.....this is day 1 of flower for me (14 days of 12/12) then I start counting

yeah but that happens at different times. from seed it takes like 2 weeks to make a switch.... but from clone it is strain defendant. my skunk 1 is in full flowering after like 4 or 5 days. I count days from start of 12 n 12 because its such a small amount of time. 50 days of 12 n 12 for skunk 1 in my room, 50 days of flowering also. any pics of the harvest or no choppers yet?
