My First Grow: DWC in Grow Box w/ 250 HID Bulb (Open Thread)

The 100th day has come and gone and we're coming down to the last two weeks or so. Girls continue drinking about a gallon a day. I plan on leaving the "ripening" nutes mix through the weekend, then going with straight water for the last week-and-a-half, two-weeks.

Took another clipping yesterday to look at the trichomes and was having a really tough time with it... sober. I'll take a look again, want to start looking for the cloudiness.

Question: Right now, my fingers are always extremely sticky after working with these clippings. I believe I remember reading somewhere that the buds should be sticky, but the stickiness should not transfer to your fingers (if it does, very little amount). Is this true? If so, does this come w/ curing?

Hell yeah...sticky is good. It will definitely go away after drying even. Then they are like the buds you buy... well not really, but they aren't sticky anymore. Just lots of keif to shake off if you want.

Good luck on the trichs. One tip is to always look at them in the same lighting conditions. So you aren't being tricked by different lights hitting them differently. I like to be in pretty much dark (just not bright) and then only use the light on the scope... that way I'm not being fooled by differnt lights. This isn't the only way to do it, but I like it. Find a way that works for you and stick to that. Whatever you do, get away from the HPS it does crazy things to everything. If that makes sense.

Good luck.

Good advice, thanks Jigs. I'm going to try taking another look tonight or sometime this weekend.

I had originally planned on flushing the res today to start the two weeks of flushing, but I think I'm going to delay it a little more. Going to take another clipping tonight when the lights come on to get an idea of where I'm at.

I've read in some threads that you should only flush for 1 week, while others say 2. Some argue that by the end of 2 weeks, the plants are going yellow from lack of nutes. While others say 1 week isn't long enough to flush the nutes out. Any thoughts or personal experiences?

I don't know, but from what I have done I think the longer the flush the better. I don't think it really hurts yeild flushing longer. About leaves going yellow I think that is a good sign. Frankly I don't like how green my purple kush leaves are at harvest. I feel like I haven't squeezed everything they have yet out of them.

Here's the way I see it. You want the plant to think it is dying so that it will give all it's got into futhering its liniage... ie seeds. Or when they aren't pollinated where the seeds would be. That's what we like smoking so much... and to get the plant to pump every ounce of life it has, it needs to be pushed into it. I think starving them is one way to signal the end is near.

Also the main reason I see for not flushing as much is to give nutrients longer for more growth. My goal in growing is primarily for personal use, and I have more than enough herb. So I'm not out to get every little bit of weight... I prefer quality, taste, and high... so I don't find it necessary to make things as big and heavy as absolutely possible.

I also think flushing helps the plant mature faster/ finish faster... but that's just a thought, I have no proof or anything.

see, this is what i had originally thought... and i'm still leaning this way. it just makes sense.

so question for you... the colas on both lois lane and jean grey have a significant bit of red hairs while mary jane is still mainly white. also, the trichs still aren't quite where i think they should be at. but based on nirvana shop's schedule, i'm right at the average start of harvest, and lasts another 2 or 3 weeks. (hope that made sense... if not, smoke some pot and re-read, haha).

so my question... if i switch to plain h2o immediately, will this also trigger the plants to really mature and ripen?

and anyone know how much rep you need to spread before you can give the same person more rep? i owe my man jigs like a million reps now and still can't.

by the way... anyone know of any good online head shops (looking for both quality and price)?

my local head shop is ridiculously overpriced.

Today was historic... alright, maybe it's not that big of a deal. But I'm officially on the last stage of grow... the flush. It's about day 60 of flowering.

I took clippings of the sugar leaves from all three plants today and looked at them with the 'scope... and it's truly unreal. Now that I actually know what I'm looking for, I cannot believe the change. The girls are definitely ready and if I had flushed earlier, I could probably harvest them all within a couple of days. I would say both Lois Lane (AK48) and Mary Jane (Master Kush) have about 90-95% cloudy trichs. Jean Grey (Master Kush) on the other hand, seemed like the trichs are half amber now. It's going to be interesting to see how the effects of two Master Kushes differ.

I drained the res with the nutes and going with straight h2o now. I'm on the home stretch! Current plan is to harvest next Saturday.

Took a whole arse load of pics tonight, but here's two just as a teaser. I'll upload some more tomorrow night.

Pic 1 - The flush begins

Pic 2 - Find Jackson!

I love it man... .those plants look so happy and healthy. I'm so stoked for you on your first grow wrapping up. It's really exciting. You actually did it and did a hell of a good job. It will fun to watch those trichs change over the next week or two.

I wanted to see your pic bigger, so I stole it, cut it, and blew it up... and now I'm jacking your thread with your own pic.

why you gotta be jacking up my thread jigfresh? what gives you the right? i mean, all you do is give your recommendation and all of your help, you really think that lets you do anything you want in my thread?

ha, no seriously, it's funny you blew the picture up. i've been purposely shrinking the pictures down. if you want any BIG pics, just let me know and i'll take some before i chop 'em down.

and as for your comment, i owe you a lot for the success of my first grow. couldn't have done it without you watching along the way. love this community man, glad i found you guys.

okay, enough with this sappy shit. time to get high and i'll be on later to post up more of last night's pics... and i'll take a new pic of the twins with a jackson and upload it just for you.

107 days into the grow, about 62 days into flowering. Crazy :???:

I topped off the res and took more clippings from all three girls today. Here's how they're looking:

Mary Jane (Master Kush): I think this girl is going to be perfect to harvest next Saturday. Almost all trichs are opaque, and about 1/3 of the trichs are amber.

Jean Grey (Master Kush): I think I may need to harvest her early. All trichs are opaque, about 50% are amber.

Lois Lane (AK48 ): I think I might need to harvest this girl early too. Well more than 50% of the trichs are already amber.

So, with that said, what do you guys think? Should I cut JG and LL down this weekend? How long before I miss peak?

Also, take a look at the pic... the browning of this leaf looks REALLY... nasty. I'm not sure if you can tell in the picture. Anyone have any clue what this might be?

Check out next post for more pics...

Don't know about the leaf... it could just be from the flush. That's what I would assume.

I would think this weekend would be good for the two. I don't think you really miss the peak... I mean I don't know, haven't read, but I think the deterioration is much slower than the build up if you know what I mean. So like if they are 80% amber this weekend and you really want to wait till next week, I don't think things will be not as good.... maybe just more couch lock.

I think this weekend for the two and next weekend for the last. How awesome.
