Do I need at least 2 inches?
Or could I just use 4 gallons throughout the grow?

Well that I don't understand at all. Look like the same as the BP system. It's a bit smaller at 8 gallon and I run 6 gallons which leaves 1 1/2 - 2" air space. You need 2" or so of air space or a strong air pump and lots of air stone. I've found that max air makes a big difference in the overall health of the plant. How is it that you fill a 10 gallon with 5 gallons of water and have that little room? It should only be half filled. I'm puzzled and that doesn't happen much these days.

That might be it. My 3 3/4" pots are 3" deep. If the height of the tote is 12 1/2" and you net pots take up 4" that leave 8 1/2" of room. Deduct to 1 1/2" air space and you can fill to 7". Now I've never measured water by the inch and the sides flair on that tote and therefore carry more water so 4-5 gallons sounds about right. With four plants in the tote that's probably plenty but I would recommend a weekly res change just to be sure. It's going to get a little crowded for the roots in the tank but that's a good thing. Make sure you have a good airstone going in the tank. I believe big air solves a lot of potential root problems. What strain are you starting with? What's your grow room like?

I'll take pictures of my set-up when I get my seeds in and in veg. I ordered some AK-48 feminized, I have two bagseed plants in Ocean Forest right now, just put them in flower on the 28th. Humidity is killing me right now, the cabinet is in the garage and I'm in Texas. I have a A/C window unit that I ducted into the cab, so heat is no problem. Sometimes it gets to 65 deg with the lights on at night. I keep it running on low during the day when the lights are off.

I built a system exactly like yours. I can see how it can provide a rapid growth environment. I have sprouted a seed in rockwool but I have noticed that my fan leaves have sprouted but growth has realyl slowed, if not stopped. Sorry I do not have any picts. Should my feeder tube be pushed into the rockwool on the side or lay underneath it, between the hydroton clay and the rockwool. With it in the side (which it is currently) it looksl ike the rockwool is getting too wet. MAybe that is why the growth has slowed. You have any advice? Thanks!!

The feeder tubes BUTT into the sides of the rockwool cubes. It should provide a TRICKLE and NOT a STREAM of FLOW of water. The cubes stay soaked and do eventually disintergrate.
If your plants drink a certain amount of water, every day, and then stop drinking any, you have Nutriotional Lockout, which is normally a pH problem.

ok almost got everything...the irrigation hub is giving me a bit of trouble, may have tracked one down at home depot BUT what parts do i need to connect it the sub pump...i have a 185 gph sub pump

I have a hub with a 1/2 inch opening, and I have a hub with 3/4 inch opening. I go to Lowes, and buy a foot lenght of clear plastic tube, 3/4 inch, and 1/2 inch. They will work just fine.
Lowes and Home depot have the hub, but both do not always keep them in stock.
Amazon.com has them too.
Go back to the first or 2nd page of this thread, bro, it tells you where to get them.

awesome thanks...being in canada I'm nowhere near a lowes but i'll check home depot tomorrow after work!!! so excited to get going, two widow clones and two god bud clones and both mothers are over 6 feet tall!!

I build one of these systems had a seed (1) sprout on 8/3. My question is, I noticed if I put the feeder tube in the side of the rockwool, it gets too wet. Do I need to put it below the rockwool so the roots "go after" the water. IT has been 4 days and I have not seen any growth in my seedling, so I am wondering if I am overwatering it with the feed tube.
PH looks good, but keeps rising for some reason, soI haveto keep adjusting. Temps (air and H2O) is around 79 deg f.
Anyone have any thoughts as to why my growth is so slow?

Is the water coming out of the tube a steady sream of just a trickle? You want a trickle. You want the tube butted up against the cube about half way up.

It is coming out at a pretty fast amount. The thing the hose it attached to on my pump has 6 outlets. Right now I am using just one of them. It said it should emit 2 gallons per hour. By the looks of the water coming out it is a lot. So I moved the feedertube to about 1/8 inch below the rockwool. I will see tonight is it helped. Hopefully the seedling will start to grow cause right now it is only showing 2 fan leaves.

Is it a nice green color? Does your distributor (that's what I call the thing connected to the pot) have an adjustement screw to control the flow. Some do and some don't. It would be right by where you conmect the feed hose to the distributor. If it does, back off the flow a bit.

Yes, the seedling is still green. Yes, the distributor. That is what it is. No it does not have a flow control. The rockwool definitely was really wet though. I will see how moving it 1/8 inch below the rockwool works.
I read another post just now saying that if the seedling doesn't appear to be growing it is because there is a lot of activity establishing a good root base. Then it will start to show growth on top. I am going with that belief. So I am just going to have to have patience.
Go to keep an eye on my PH too. The tends to climb as well.
