HPS puts out more lumens for the same wattage. More importantly, the spectrum is closer to the autumn sun that the plant would naturally be flowering under. I would go ahead and get the 250W HPS for your flower stage. You WILL see better results and the bulbs are not that expensive, probably about $30 to $50 depending on brand. Keep your MH for your vegging phase. The HPS conversion bulb will work with your existing ballast, so you are good there too. You should need nothing more than the bulb.

hey klmmicro
thanks for the quick reply
is there any way of using my existing light system and changing some of the components inside so that it accepts both types of bulb?

its cheaper to get a bulb. agrosun gold works good, more red spectrum than mh, i have not tried a conversion bulb. sorry can't help you on that. i have used the reg mh for veg and the agrosun gold for flower:peace:

He gave you a perfect answer in his first post. You have a 250w MH setup, which normal 250w HPS bulbs won't work in. But 250w conversion HPS bulbs will. Get one of them.

mygirls uses a 400w mh in his 1000w hps ballasts or something like that and has never had a problem with it, i didnt believe him at first either but he proved it w/good info and the fact he's done it for a long time and never had a problem and i dont see why he'd lie about that.

i know its a little off topic, but i felt like tossing it out there anyways. lol

yeah cheers guys. as i understand you can use a Metal Halide Bulb with a Hps setup but not the other way round.
This is what im tryin to achieve , makin my mh setup into an hps setup . i no i can keep the screw socket and reflector, but would i have to change my control gear too?
