I can't tell what kind of bulb that is, but my grow shop warrants bulbs for one year from date of purchase.

It looks like your ring main has overloaded at the point the light has tried to spark up. What else is pulling watts?

Its a 28w CFL, yes. But I just have it screwed into a normal plug in lamp. Which, is plugged into a timer in a wall. But that is it. Am I doomed to purchase another?
btw, it is a Sylvania.
I mean, its not THAT many watts, all I'm doing is trying to get my baby to grow a little taller before I upgrade wattage.

If you have the receipt, take it back and say it didn't work in the first place. Most retailers won't give you too much fuss over a couple of bucks.Its a 28w CFL, yes. If it's only 23 watts I hope that's not why it's blown. I've had similar problems with cfl's. Some are just crap.

if its a CFL, your ballast probly burned out, due to lightning, arc damage, wire size of insuficent rating. or the fact that some CFLs are designed to be mounted base down only in order to keep the ballasts cool
i couldnt tell from that perspective if that was a mogul base or not.
but check the base of your bulb socket, look for simlilar damage.
if it also has damage. it was probly the bulb not being seated firmly enough to maintain current. ie. enough to come on, but not enough.
while your there get a tester and make sure power is coming to the CENTER post of the socket base, NOT the threaded outside rim.
this causes minor arcing, which eats metal, widening the arcdistance, forcing the arc to travel. and with some larger comercial ballasts the arcing would have sounded just like the transformers.
also never screw in a bulb while its live.

I know what your saying but I have a 20watt max output bedside light. I have an 8 watter in it, you can almost read a book!!!

So then, that leads to my OTHER question; Are any of you familiar with the outlet socket adaptors? And if so, can I use a 28w+ on one of those?

That's kinda what I was thinking. The ones I see at the hardware store are rated for 60 watts I think.
