SH Bubbleponics White Widow grow. First Timer!

This is my very first grow, but definitely not my last. I only have a small area to work with but I don't mind because I only plan on growing what I can smoke bongsmilie

I ordered a Stealth Hydroponics kit a couple weeks back and then decided it would be best to order a grow tent as well. I live in an apartment so I need to be careful about the smell/sound/light/cats.

The tent arrived and I was definitely surprised at the quality and everything, I really love it! The grow tent has a number of venting options. I decided to purchase a 6" Elicent ducting fan that will work as an exhaust and carbon filter (which I plan on DIYing).

Once I had the water's ph at a nice level (5.8-6.2?) I stuck each of my 6 White Widow seeds into their own rock wool cubes. I'm not quite sure how wet these should be staying but I have heard that I should keep the water dripping on them till the roots touch the water and then to unhook the feed hub (something about preventing root rot).

I currently have the tent closed until I start to see the seeds sprout. At which point I am debating on whether to do 24/0 or 18/6 and then switching to 12/12 when they are ready. Any tips here?

I am using the Dual Spectrum II lighting setup and the nutes that came with the kit.I plan on mixing in half a pack of Grow and Micro nutes (which will be strained through a coffee filter until it is completely dissolved). How long till I should feed them these nutes? Unless I hear otherwise I plan on following the feeding schedule that came with my SH kit.

Please feel welcome to post any comments or constructive criticism. I will most likely be updating this everytime something happens that is worth a few pictures or words.

PS: I probably left a lot of information out so please feel free to ask :eyesmoke:

The seeds have started germinating. I can almost see them sticking out of the cubes. :blsmoke:

I will post some pics if they stick their heads out tomorrow.

So it seems that some of the seeds are germinating slower than the others, or they don't plan on sprouting at all.

I stuck a couple extra seeds in a damp paper towel just in case.

Here is my largest plant so far. I am a little worried about the spot of yellow on the one leaf (as you can see in the pics below). So far all that I have fed these is 1/2 a pack of Grow and Micro nutes from SH. I did have the lights a bit close (2-3inches) so I raised them to about 5 inches.

You guys think I am worrying about nothing here? I plan on changing the whole tank of water this weekend to make sure it isn't anything that would be fixed by "The 8 Step Recuperation and Recovery Remedy" from Roseman/Purpdaddys guide.

Thanks in advance

Honestly they look a lil small for a 1/2 a dose of nutes. I would recommend 1/4 the dose if anything. Just lower the dose and wait a bit till they get a couple sets of leafs then increase. But this is how i did my grow and every grow is different just throwing in my 2 cents.

Honestly you don't even need to start feeding yet. They are too young still especially from seed. Should wait about a week or two then you can start your feeding regiment. I started my grow with cfls so its definitely not the light because I have a 125 watt 6500k and two 26 watt daylight cfls and they pretty much barely and inch away from my plants. I think you should just let them sprout first and let them get a little bigger then the nutes for sure.

Thanks for the quick replies!

I wont feed them till they all get bigger then. Also, I'll lower down the lights a bit.

Thanks again :blsmoke:

Dude, I don't wanna be a party pooper, but where'd you get your tent from? Not ebay, I hope?

That looks like one of the older tents that killed all the plants, which people are now selling for dirt cheap on there.

I'm no chemist, but from what I've read the tent emits a gas which ends up killing your plants - just a heads up, I'd prolly return or throw that one away and get a new silver-lined tent.

Just my $.02.

Hmmmm.....It does smell kinda different. So I need to get those silver lined ones?

Yeah, do a search on here or any other site, but ALL those tents with the white PVC lining emit some kind of a gas (I think, although it's not really important) that kills the plants.

There was a massive recall a year or two ago - I've got a Sun Hut LG and XL with the silver lining and they're working out great.

Didn't want to rain on your parade, just don't want you to put a lot of time and effort into a grow that's doomed to fail because of a killer tent.

Yah, thanks for giving me the heads up.

I took a look at this thread and read that it is mostly caused when people are using HID lights and they get excessively hot.

I will try return the tent and get a silver lined one instead. Do you think the tent will be fine to use till then? Mostly cause the lights I am using don't get really hot, correct me if I'm wrong.

Edit: from the Ebay page it says: "As an added benefit, the film does not produce any toxic gases, and therefore, there is no risk of harming the plants." I am emailing them asking them some more about this.

Couldn't tell ya, man, sorry.

In addition to buying a new tent, though, I'd write the fuckwad who knowingly sold you that tent a scathing email and do what I could to blow his spot up.

But that's me, I'm a vindictive fuck when someone tries to get over on me.

Best of luck with your grow.

Pics from day 12

These next 2 I started about 5-6 days later because some seeds didn't germinate.

I'll try post again after work tonight :peace:

This bin from SH isnt light proof. Eventually, you'll get algae which look like little red, living tubes from the roots and it's gross. I covered mine one layer of duct tape and the issue disappeared.

I'm on my 8th grow here with the SH kit, and I've never got algae in mine. Do you make or buy the little cup covers to keep the light out of the rocks and cups?

yea i made little covers out of styrofoam bowl bottoms.. I just dont see how it could not happen to you too.. the bin is almost completely transparent so i can't see how algae would not happen. I think light gets in through the top of the bin moreso than penetrating the hydroton anyway.

I bought mine in Dec 2006, so maybe they are thinner now. There is a group here who uses them, the BubbleHeads, I'll ask them if they ever got a thin one.
