My grow idea, not sure on the fluorescents

My idea is two rooms

1. Flowering room 1000 watt hps light 5x5
2. Vegg 4 fluorescent bulbs 4x4

I know the 1000 watts is great for flowering, but how about my other vegg room with the fluorescent...Is that enough to vegg my plants???

some may say no and some yes but let them vegg longer...well my plan is to leave them vegging the entire period that my 1000watt room is flowering..so I'm looking at 8 weeks of flowering under the fluorescent light...

What do you think???

hey dude your fluoro lights will be fine for veging. I have 10 plants under 3x 24" daylight flouro tubes and they are 27 days into veg and they look great i have pic in my topic. So depending on how many plants you are going to grow 4x fouro tubes will be fine for veggin just keep the light 2" above the plants and your be fine

To fill up a 4x4 veg room with fluorescents you're gonna need a fuckload of them.

Just get a 600 for your veg room, cheaper and more efficient.

But if heat's an issue, then yeah, fluoros would work for veg.

Don't use fluros!! You will be wasting your money! Use 6500k CFLS! Two to three a plant!! They produce much better results!!

call me lazy but just veg and flower with the hps. If you have the room its not a horrible thing, the plant will stretch a little more but that decision is up to you. Its different if you want to use 6500l cfl's or MH throughout the whole process. but i wouldn't worry about it.

yeah 6500K CFL lights are good you can get them now in 250watt wich gives out about 750watt of light. you can find them on ebay for about £45 / $70 one of them will be plenty of light for your size grow room, just remember to keep the light low or your plants will strech and be weak

yeah go bigger then cfls
Well if I'm going to vegg with cfl light though for 6-8 weeks shouldn't the time and lights be enough to hold them off until I'm ready to flower them???

The problems is a 400watt light uses so much more energy then then the cfl's

5x5 is way too small for a 1000w hps

Grow Light Area Coverage Your growing area determines what wattage system you should purchase. Determine what size garden you want before you purchase a system. Growing areas can also be expanded by adding additional lights and by using a light mover.

* Primary light (no natural light) coverages for the different grow light wattages are as follows.
*
o 100 watt lights: 1.5FT x 1.5FT growing area
o 150/175 watt lights: 2FT x 2FT growing area
o 250 watt lights: 3FT x 3FT growing area
o 400 watt lights: 5FT x 5FT growing area
o 600 watt lights: 6FT x 6FT growing area
o 1000 watt lights: 8FT x 8FT growing area

that should help... 400w would do you better for than area.

Nice thanks a lot for that, but with a 400 watt light that would reduce my yield... I want the 1000 watt to try and harvest close to 2lbs using the sea of green method

That chart needs to go back to the 70's when it was written.... You're perfect with that 1000 Watt at 5X5.. here's a post I have ready for just this situation...

Minimum Lighting 25 watts Per Square FootLighting
The minimum recommended lighting for your area is 625 watts
Ventilation
The minimum flow rating of your fan should be 145.8 Cubic Feet per Minute (CFM)
Power Requirements
This setup will require 6.8 amps to be available at all times for safest operation*

Optimum Lighting 40 watts Per Square Foot
Lighting
The optimum reccomended lighting for your area is 1000 watts
Ventilation
For optimum ventilation the flow rating of your fan should be around 160.4 Cubic Feet per Minute
Power Requirements
This setup will require 10.8 amps to be available at all times for safest operation*
Maximum Lighting 60 watts Per Square Foot
Lighting
The maximum reccomended lighting for your area is 1500 watts
Ventilation
Going this way you will require a fan with a flow rating of at least 189.6 Cubic Feet per Minute
Power Requirements
This setup will require 16.3 amps to be available at all times for safest operation*
Additional Comments
Getting to these points and or over it is highly reccomended the grower use Co2 in their room as your plants will only be able to photosythesise a certain amount of light before needing a Co2 boost to benifit
I hope that helps you.

CFLs will usually give you tighter distance between nodes than an HID light as long as you have enough. It's a little slower, but less stem.
