A noob's guide to doin it right the 1st time

Love your journal. And man, make me second guess myself about going hydro. Keep it up, sounds like your making it work..........and learning alot. thanks for the updates
 
see its the thrilla in manila,the plants were doing the rope a dope,now they are fighting back,your becomeing a good traner of fighting plants.

i have switched to 12/12 today. i am at about 6 weeks veg. at this point. this is a little earlier than i wanted to switch, as a couple of my plants still need to recover some from my abuse. but now that i have figured out how to maintain a proper tank, hopefully things will improve. most of them have reached sexual maturity and it was only a matter of days before they started showing pre-flowers. the only thing that really sucks is that my two best looking plants will most likely turn out to be male, as my NL is a triploid (which almost always turn out male) and my best AK is just fucking huge. it's a bush i tell you, a bush!!!! i'm still hoping they will all turn out to be female, but the law of averages is against me. i guess now we wait and see. :peace:
 
also, i have been learning a lot thus far. i think my next attempt will be radically different. i haven't decided for sure if i'm going soil the next grow or not. there are definite advantages to this, such as not worrying about root death if the power goes out for an extended period of time.

if i continue with DWC, i'm going to modify my plan. i won't use rubbermaid tubs all of my plants. my roots are getting tangled with this method, so i will probably go with a low profile tub with a multi-bucket setup on top. i will also rig a way for me to drain the tank without actually having to remove it from my hydrohut. anyways, this has been a huge learning curve. i'm stuck not being able to smoke for the next few weeks as i'm planning a move and need to find a job in the new city. anyways, i have rambled far too much here. :peace:
 
nice going looks like your getting the hang of it and alot of valuable experience also looking good and moving in the middle if it?
 
well i'm going to try and finish flowering before the move. i don't really want to have to transport almost finished plants in the back seat of a car. not exactly the smoothest move ever, if you know what i mean :)

By the way I agree with you, if you are going to do something may as well do it right the first time. I am also starting my grow project and have completed my research. Thanks for sharing your information.

ok, so remember what happened last time i changed my tanks? well if not, here's a refresher course. all my plants looked like they were going to bite the dust. seems to be the situation again. now i know it's not my ph, and i know it's not my nutrient strength. there are only 3 possibilities: 1, the difference in water temperature in my tanks shocked my roots 2, the level of chlorine in my water is causing this adverse reaction or 3, my water is so effin hard that my plants hate it.

so, does anyone have any input on this topic? better yet, has anyone else also experienced this phenomenon, and if so, what caused it? for the record, i'm leaning towards number 2 because the last time this happened, all of my plants looked fine 48 hours later. my suspicion is further bolstered by the fact that my water pretty much smells like bleach water from the tap due to the seemingly abnormal amount of chlorine added to the water here. :peace:

I have yet to do hydro. But I'll tell you I'm prepping for it. The chlorine is suppose to evaporate after 24 to 48 hrs after standing exposed to air. I'm also going to get a cheap RO system like this one http://i10.ebayimg.com/05/i/000/a2/33/e9c2_1.JPG
So basically, if you think it's a water issue you need to address the water. Let it age or get a filtration system or get spring water/distilled water.

Good thing you didnt kill those bad boys when they started wilting.....
 
i think you change your water too much, just change it every week like everyone says, also you should use spring water from walmart for like 64 cents a gallon. just my HO.
 
well i need to be doing something different, that's for sure. 48 hours later, they're not looking the best i've seen them. looks like they are drinking and eating though, which is at least something i guess.
 
I just signed up for this forum and read this entire thread. I was disappointed to see that the thread actually had an end. Hopefully I will remember to check in frequently. This is like a reality show.
 
well, i'm not sure that i'm going to be able to continue this grow all the way through. i'm going to be moving within the next 2 weeks, and the courtesy officer at my apartment complex is an undercover narcotics officer. not to mention, there are like 4 or 5 other cops that live in the complex. i'm not sure that i want to take that kind of a risk, and it might be very hard to convince my room mate that it's worth it.
