Do you feel the same way about poor people in the inner city eating too much fried chicken, because the libs are already cracking down there too.

so long as you are free to do so..... the kid generally doesn't get a say, they get mum and dad telling them no tv till they finnish dinner, and they';; eat and do what they're told etc.

and as said, we're not talking about plump kids, we're talking about fat ass waste of space kids that just eat everything that is put infront of them, and as said, you might as well be starving them, as either way they're probably gonna end up in serious health related issues as a result.

How do human rights work if the state is not allowed to interfere...

IT ISN'T SOCIALISM, IT'S CALLED RESPONSIBLE PARENTING!! If you can't take care of your child and keep them SAFE, then you don't deserve to have a child. Period. Having children is not a right, it's a privilege.

You don't "reward" your kids with sweets, any parent with half a brain knows this is a horrible way to start your child down a path of emotional eating.

There's a difference between a "plump" child, and a child who is morbidly obese (it's called "morbidly" obese for a reason, can you figure it out?).

Sorry i misspoke by saying we have the right it should be we should have the right. If you aren't fit to parent you need to lose your right to parent. I am a libertarian and adults should be able to do what they want to themselves. Feeding your kid garbage is poisoning them. plain and simple. As it was stated taking the kids away is a last resort. The people taking away didn't destroy the family the parents did by neglecting them. Why can't you realize this isn't socialism is it because glenn beck calls everything socialism? Jesus man if you think people should be able to have 400lb 13 year olds without even trying to find a solution you are just nuts in my opinion. you are handicapping that kid it would be like breaking his legs. Point is it should be dealt with on a case by case basis if the parent is trying to solve the problem then no offense has happened it could be a medical issue. If they continue to feed them KFC and mcdonalds and garbage time and time again every day you should lose your kid. I don't think the state should tell people how to parent, but in severe cases action needs to be taken even if your kid doesn't get morbidly obese feeding them shit food is setting the tone for the future of their eating habits. Also show me in the constitution where it says you have the right to abuse a child by way of mouth.
i defend our rights to freedom and personal liberty with every fiber in me but if it affects others it is no longer personal and is now societal. And when I have to pay for some asshole to get SSI because he is too fat to work then yeah I think that's wrong hands down. That is socialism and coddeling and is not part of natural selection you are breeding more and more people with no idea how to eat and that is their example to their kids. Yes, the state does have rights over children whose parents have been abusive, negligent, etc. children who are removed from their parents are called "wards of the state". Look it up. It's real.

Yes, the government does have the right to step in if you are BREAKING THE LAW. Neglecting a child is against the law, as is abusing a child.

Just because you WISH the government didn't have the right, doesn't make it so.

to start with, the kid is not living the life he wants to live. he is living the life his parents want him to live.

30 lbs is considered obese. That means they can take the child for that. That could easily be baby fat. The goverment isn't gonna see it that way. They'll see what's considered obese and take the child. I think people are getting fat because of PC's. There the best and worst thing to happen to the world. Also just because your skinny doesn't mean your healthy. My bro was 6'2 169 lbs and died of a heart attack at 22 in 89.

When an animal population, oh let's say, a Squirrel, senses a severe upcoming winter, they store lots and lots of extra nuts and fatten up as much as possible before the change of season.

So, on a societal level, perhaps these families are more sensitive to the upcoming severe economic winter that will soon cover the land.

Who would have lasted the longest on the island in "Lord of the Flies"? Why, ol' Piggy would have outlasted them all... If it wasn't for those darn glasses.

So the thing to do is make sure your fat little kids have good vision.

I applaud your superior senses and will now go eat some bananas and try and catsup.

correct we are nothing more than mammals. however your line of logic is skewed imo cracker, because we are also expected no to pray on other animals of the same species where as animals such as rats will eat the competition if they get hungry enough. It is true we have the instinct to eat when the food is available, instinctually we dunno when we will see food again. Now I think you guys need to read the USA today article I posted they aren't going to take your kid for 30 lbs. Also it is true being skinny makes you no less healthy or prone to heart attacks. However a healthy weight when your younger and good eating habits followed by yearly physicals makes you much more likely to live a longer life. If you can't agree that 400lb that is almost 2 of me standing at 6'2 at 13 years old. Doesn't need any addressing then I don't know what to tell you. short of a medical problem it is inexcusable. this is a great thread btw kudos to the author.

I didn't read though the whole thread and I do think the less Gov. interference the better. However, you have to draw the line somewhere. If you were feeding your kid poison you would certainly be guilty of a number of crimes. If your 3 year old weighs 100lbs you are in fact poisoning your child.

spot on I feel the same way. I break the law and if I get arrested it is my fault. The only difference is I hurt no one my kids don't suffer an early death because i was too lazy to defrost and cook a fucking boneless skinless chicken breast. I have kids both are at healthy weights and it is real simple to keep it that way. Feed them good food and eat good food yourself to show by example. if you think a 400lb kid is brought on by a few fruit snack you are mistaken.

If there is a 400lb 13 year old kid that probally is a medical reason. I'm not saying they can't be just fat either. *I am the author BTW. Don't call me cracker either spook!

What if there 16? They can start taking control then or even before. Kids spend most of there time in school anyway shouldn't the goverment go after them harder? I mean most schools have breakfast at them now and they have lunch. That's 2/3 daily meals. They should also be able to get excersize while there also. More schools are taking recess away from elementary schools and there getting fatter. There only eating 1 when they get home and the parents have them a total of 3 months out of the year where there home all day. I say go after schools more!
