Just wondering. Im using 7 gallon pots and my moisture meter only goes down so far. I can stick it in the bottom holes (that's what she said) but not sure if that would matter.

i was always told just to put a finger in there for like an inch or two at the most, and if it felt dry that far down then they needed water.. i would think that if you let the whole pot get that dry you could stress them out.. i would go with just letting the top inch or two being dry before watering

stick your finger about 1.5" down in the dirt. If it's dry, water. If it's wet, don't water. If it's moist, don't water, if it's just slightly moist, don't water. It's usually about ever 2 or 3 days, unless you've maxed out the pot you're using with roots.

Due to internet diconnection, I just lost 30 mins. I'm pissed. In short, throw out the moisture meter. Second, the second knuckle of the finger, that's the proper method. Drainage, it better be right. Once proper moisture is given, lift the container. That will tell you when... Flood the Bitch. Not flush. Water regular, yes, or adopt a method that causes a vacuum, that sucks fresh oyxgen into the soil. Interested? Cool.

I agree. Also remember, if you're useing a moisture meter, be sure to test in several different areas, as some spots will probably be dryer than others - you wouldn't want to hit a dry spot and water her when the rest of it is still soaked.

...experienced growers use the "lift" method to figure their waterings.
...you fill the same size pot with dry soil and lift it....take a mental record of this weight....You then take another pot and water it...mentally record.

Dig'n your fingers into the medium and moister meters stab the soil and disrupt the root developement, and possible kill roots.

One good idea is to let your plants dry until they wilt, record how many days it took to dry them out and to wilt. Your best bet is to water them a day before they wilt. This way the roots gets the air they need.

...keep in mind, an underwatered plant does a waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay better job then an over watered plant. Good Luck!

QUOTE FROM HIGH TIMES GROW GUIDE 2009 (ARTICLE ABOUT THE WIZARD) " First, the Wizard pokes a finger into the top of the soil. If its dry, he then pokes a finger into the holes at the bottom of each plants bucket. If the soil there is dry as well, he'll actually lift each bucket up to get a sense of the water weight. The Wizard will only water a plant when its almost dry, so if the soil is still wet or moist ( or even slightly damp), the plant wont get watered"

Hope that helps at all.
