. Think if that were made law, all bullet manufacturers would have to stop producing their product, you would not be able to reload your own bullets anymore..
not logical

you dnt think they would sell bullet casings with the numbers on em that you could reload yourself???? bullet manufacturers would not have to stop they would just have to buy a new part for a machine from said company that wont get to be a monpoly unles you dnt let the gvrnmnt regulate them.

we are not talking about puting ppl out of buisness we are talking about changing the whay they do it

I'm just glad I live in the UK where it's prctically impossible to hold a gun legally. The last two gun massacres we had were both commited by people who held guns legally. If someone has a gun here and gets shot by the police then... too bad, if you get caught with a gun you're looking at doing time... something most people in the UK happily buy into.
what do you do when your in the country and your walkin along only to be atacked by an animal or hunting for food i guess you can hunt with a bow but how do you protect yerself from the wild

What does the casing have to do with it? Its the Bullet that has to carry the Ser #, you know the part that kills and is left behind? I can make my very own bullets right here at home with wheel weights, a mold and a sizer. How can they regulate that? It would be a major loop hole in the whole ser # thing. A criminal intent on killing would know this loophole too and nothing would be solved, except more government interference, and expense to the average law abiding citizen.

Most laws are not created to help the average person. Most laws are made to help the elite class of this country, but they disguise most of it so it looks all great and dandy.

I haven't read any other posts, but I agree with you.All citizens have the right to bear arms, period.I really don't have anything else to add.
It seems that a lot of people like to pick sides on this whole "right left" "liberal conservative" "donkey elephant" thing. Can't i just be a free thinking person?

Anybody else a member of both the NRA and NORML?

Just curious how other stoners feel about firearm rights?

I'd like to open up a rational discussion about firearms rights, and i'd like to hear from both sides!

Ill start: I believe that law abiding citizens not only have the right to bear arms, but that they have a responsibility to. If somebody goes postal near me, and threatens my life, or my family, or friends, or other citizens, it is my responsibility to prevent that. If somebody wants to come to my home or place of work to rob me, I can let them know they came to the wrong place. I could go on.
I think a lot of gun control supporters say that more people carrying a handgun everywhere leads to a more dangerous situation.
One of my favorite comedians, Bill Hicks, said "There is no connection between having a gun and shooting someone with it, and not having a gun, and not shooting someone with it, and you'd be a fool and a communist to make one"
Sounds logical enough. But, in the real world situation of modern day America, there are too many people who disagree with the law for them to ever realistically get rid of all guns. (might i refer you to the cannabis situation. Been illegal since 1937, is it gone from America?) I think laws that prevent law abiding citizens just makes us defenseless to people who wont follow the law anyway. Criminals will have guns, nut jobs will have guns, cops will have guns. So should i.

So how do other people feel? lets get a rational discussion representing both sides of the gun control issue from the perspective the cannabis community.:peace:

Wow a lot of good discussion here. It seems most stoners are for rights, who would have thunk it?

To the UK guy, gun laws may work for your country, we have a different situation here. We have serious wilderness and wide open spaces.

About the ammunition marking thing, think about the cost of ammunition if they did that? and it wouldn't help. If you left brass at a range or anywhere, a criminal could reload it, and use it to commit a crime and then the police would waste crucial time investigating you.

And about the subject of taking away your rights for a felony conviction, I disagree with this! I think it was meant as a way to prevent VIOLENT criminals from legally having firearms. I agree with the idea. The problem is, it is too easy to get a felony in today's society. In Alabama it is a felony to pass a stopped school bus. In most states, its a felony to sell or grow any amount of herb. I have met so many people who were good people that did something stupid at a young age, or something non violent, who have no gun rights, (not to mention all the other disadvantages of having a felony conviction) for the rest of their lives. And in that fashion, the government can strip away gun rights from MILLIONS of citizens, and say that you still have the right to bear arms.

Like George Carlin once said, "It's not a bill of rights, its a bill of 'temporary privileges'"

If guns or ammo are outlawed they can always ship guns and ammo into the US in bales of marijuana. We know they get through.

Am I free to tell them to pack sand?
I have insurance, but what if I don't want it?
They going to force the Amish to buy it?
The Amish don't believe in insurance.
You gonna fine them?
you gonna kick in their doors?
You gonna put them in jail?
If not why do they get special privledges?

Government mandates don't work
In states that mandate auto insurance 15% don't have it.
People that don't have H.I. probably can't afford it.
So we are going to force them to choose between feeding their kids
and buying insurance or going on the government dole.

I know its hard to break the habits of a lifetime.
Breaking the conditioning given you in school.
But governments job is just this:
Protect the people from theft, fraud and violence.
Thats it.

But when the government engages in fraud what are we to do?
When the government becomes the enforcement arm of the insurance companies and banks.
What do we do?

So I reject the initiation of violence
except in the defence of peaceful people of this country.
Kudos for that post!

Not every state takes away gun ownership rights forever from felons. Some states you can go on a killin spree and get your "Privilege" back after 10 years of being good. California is not one of those states. You lose it forever there if convicted and unable to Wobble the felony conviction to a misdemeanor later on. Many states will only take them away if the Felony Conviction was violent or a weapon was used in commission.

Yea some states are very pro-gun. In my state, they are very anti gun. Even some misdemeanors will lose you your rights.

I think every citizen that is of age should own 1 assault rifle, 1 shotgun with hollow point slugs, 1-2 side arms and 1 CQ melee weapon(preferably a blunt object that can do massive cranial damage). Everyone should have at least these for when the zombies attack. Remember to head to a sporting goods store near a super market, these places carry many supplies for zombie survival. Stay away from big cities, travel in groups and don't forget to bring your stash when you hit the road. I wish you all luck when the zombies attack, don't be ill prepared.

We played a game in college once where we pretended there was no electricity. Therefore no transportation, food, water, etc. The cities got bad quick, and there was a desperate exodus. It was a very different scenario than dealing with a world without people. Weapons served only a limited role.

Please be NORML

I have 8500 rounds of .22LR stored. Underpowered? I won't really care about a clean sporting kill in that scenario.

Your not a bad mother fucker unless you can survive after you run out of ammo. So in that aspect keep your guns you will prolly need them I can do fine with a couple knives and a axe. If sombody runs in your house with fully auto weapons I dont care what weapons you got chances are your dead anyways.

Guns make you FEEL protected but they really do the opposite because now you THINK your propared when really no one is.
