Customs Agents Seize 316,000 Bongs Disguised as Christmas Ornaments

LOS ANGELES — Customs officials say they got a surprise when they found 316,000 glass bongs disguised as Christmas ornaments at the Los Angeles harbor.
U.S. Customs and Border Protection said Thursday that agents found the highly decorated drug pipes in 860 boxes shipped from China. The cargo, estimated to be worth more than $2.6 million, had been described as glass figures and Christmas ornaments.
The bongs were seized Tuesday at the Los Angeles/Long Beach port complex.
Customs spokeswoman Cristina Gamez says the importer remains under investigation and there have been no arrests.

I didn't think bongs were illegal unless they had weed residue in them. And isn't mj legal in Calilfornia for medicinal purposes? I'm confused. :confused:

i dont know why they would be seized.. maybe due to the mislabeling?? and some states (not cali) dont allow the sale of water pipes or anything like that.. thats what chong got in trouble for.. thats a WHOLE other story.. and he didnt really have anything to do with it in the first place.. anyways...

oh.. i do know that in the US, as long as something is sold as a water pipe its ok.. if it says BONG on it tho, it becomes illegal (dumb shit i know).. so if the shipment that was labeled as xmas ornaments said bong in the boxes for some reason that could have been the issue...

It had 100 KGs of Heroin in the hule but they rather spend their time busting glass tobacco water bongs!!! Goes to show where your guys police mantalidy is!!! Here they wouldnt give a fuck about glass bongs but rather what goes in the bowl of the bong!!

Morning Sammie. How's life treatin' ya? Chong's company was marketing his bongs for smoking weed I think. I know they have to be real careful what they are called. Back in the day you could go to the head shop and ask for a water pipe but you couldn't say bong or they'd kick you out of the store. I think you're right about the mislabelling thing though. Have a good one bro.

Doc, Customs is federal and yes, i agree with you. If Obama is saying he's laying off the weed, but why then attack the utensils?

I suppose there is an illegality in stating they were Xmas ornaments, but that was done because listing them as bongs would have produced the same result ... confiscation.

Yeah it sounds like they confiscated them due to a customs technicality and then hyped the story by saying "Bongs disguised as christmas ornaments. siezed.

actually... chong wasnt doing anything.... heres a quick summary...

chongs son was using chongs face as a marketing tool...

a senator bitch from a state that it was illegal for the importing of waterpipes/bongs/bowls/ ect. got a hard on for the war on pot and wanted to make her impact...

she basically hired some guys to go buy out chongs son's inventory and then, in a round about way, black balled them into sending the stock to them in the illegal state..

this was after many months of chongs son saying they cant send it to them because its illegal and having $10,000 or so in inventory just sitting around..

so after the finally sent it then all hell broke loose... chong and family was arrested.. and in order to keep his family safe and out of jail chong took a plea bargin (for something he had VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY little to do with.. just a face) to do the jail time in order to keep his family out..

senator bitch looks good for fighting the war on pot and taking down one of the biggest faces of the marijuana game... chong does jail time and gets support from all pot smokers and makes senator bitch look stupid in the end after the story leaks..
