HPS light not intended for growing...ok??

checking out an option for an extra 15000 lumens to mound beside my existing 20000...
comments and ideas?

and also i have next to no electrical kno how, would this be a difficult one to wire up...and what do you guys think about the heat this thing gives off???

Ur link sent me to home page. Not showing what ur lookin at? I can recommend the sunsystems 150w hps. I use it for seedlings, but i also do a large amount. Just google 150w hps a wallah. It a all in 1 system. 15,000 lumen output. Ballast built in. Just hang it and plug it. Got mine for about $100 shipped. Good luck

He was probably linking to the $20 150w hps's that they cleared out a while back.
They work as well as any other hps, it's the same thing as the sun systems but in a different package is all.

I have two of them and love them but have moved on to larger lights.

Too bad you can't find them at that price any longer.

yeah i looked at the complete grow system,
but i was lookin at this cause of the wall mount style, it would be easy and handy considering the shape of my room...
its only like 70 bucks...(its the wallpack style 150w hps)

You said considering the shape of your room? A 150 is good for a tiny box not a room. And I wouldn't pay $70 for one unless you are stuck limited to that small of a light. The same money can get you a 400, little more for a 1k.

thats what i use for early veg. really not much heat either. covers a good square foot you can stretch it to two.

i'd like to know where you can get a 400 watter shipped for 100 or less HTG is the only place that comes close and thats a pretty big gap of money there buddy almost double. im only assuming that your a little more means 40 or 50 bucks because you WILL NOT find a thousand watter for 150. not even at htg.

aggreed...the reason i want the small 150 is a couple things.... less heat, as my ventialtion is limited... and size, i only have MAXIMUM 14 x 10 for this light, those wall packs take up way less room then the hanging kind and are eisier to mount beside my existing light.

we'll see what happens i'll let you all know how it works out.

You might be surprised what a search will show if you look, especially if you're willing to wire your own ballast kit or convert a high bay or something like that which I'm assuming you are willing to do given you're looking at a wall pack light.

I spent less than what you're talking about on my 1kw high bays and they were brand new.

I hope those measurements 14x10 are inches you are trying to light and not feet.

Now ofcourse these are not sealed ballast, but if they are kept out of the grow room or up high where they won't be touched by anything you can just mount them to a piece of sheet metal ( like 3 bucks) or buy a larger sheet of sheet metal and bend into a box that will house the ballast and rivet it together.

lol the guy @ my local hydro shop didn't believe me when i told him how cheap i could get a 1000w ballast and bulb. I think hes even started ordering from there for people who don't mind wiring a few wires together.

I got my 400w hps bulb ballast relfector and cool tube for roughly 120.

ofcourse it was a diy cooltube and relfector but it makes me feel good to know i got something for 110 that will normally run 250ish. here are some pics of my ct/reflector.

Edit: well this is my 250w mh set up...can't find pics of the hps but it looks the same anyways

lol but yeah thats too much for me, its an over kill to get anything over 250w, and even the 250w reflectors (unless you DIY) are too big for the space i have next to my existing lights.
but good info thanks, and arent the wallpack style outdoor lights self contained? just mount on the wall and drill holes in the back of the wood for wires??
i AM slightly afraid of wires lol
