Colorado growers, our days could be numbered

Senator Romer is about to propose a bill to the Senate that if passed will be the end to small growers/caregivers in the state. If this passes next month mmj will ONLY be legally available from a dispensary. If you want to grow for anyone other than yourself you will have to get a 'growers license' and only be able to legally grow in places zoned for agriculture and you must sell to dispensaries only. If you grow now and sell to dispensaries you could be breaking the law by February.

This bill was intended to regulate dispensaries, but its the growers and patients who are getting fucked and the dispensaries are jumping up and down for joy.

The 63 page bill can be seen here
http://vvoice.vo.llnwd.net/e6/4193782.0.pdf

Please write to Senator Romer and tell him how your patients or you will suffer by being forced to purchase from dispensaries with their outrageous prices and terrible quality of medicine.

Romer is NOT doing anyone a 'service' or favor, that's for sure. Thanks for the links, we need to make everyone aware of this 'public servant' and make sure he never gets elected again!

BUMP!

The thing you are not taking into account is the fact that thousands of patients have complained that the prices being charged are a joke.
Senator Romer is acting on the information supplied by the patients being taken advantage of by alleged "caregivers / dispensaries"

I find it funny that most of those complaining are not patients - it is those who want to profit from the patients suffering.

So the answer is to pass a bill that says only dispensaries can sell? What, do you think thats going to lower the price? Every dispensary owner I've talked to is happy as hell about this proposal, they will be able to completely control the market both on the wholesale and retail end. If you like paying $60 or $70 for an eighth of some crappy weed from a commercial warehouse grower then you should support this.

More about this bill;

In order to get a growers license the grower must hold a public hearing and invite the neighbors, they must get approved by the city, THEN they apply for a license with the state. In order to get a license they must grow in an area zoned for agriculture, must be of 'good moral character', pass a background check, and pay thousands in licensing fees. Submit architectural drawings, get approval from the County Building Code Enforcement.

If you are able to get a license you can sell only to dispensaries, all payments must be electronic, a weekly report from all grows must be submitted to the govt, what did you harvest, what will you harvest, when, what strains, how many more days. All grows have to have video surveillance. Access to all records. NO MORE CAREGIVERS

Who do you think is profiting the most right now? Dispensaries.
Who will profit more if this is passed? Dispensaries.
Who will get fucked? Caregivers and patients.

"Caregiver" is not an accurate label for most of the growers - they are out for profit, and nothing more.

You still don't seem to understand that it is patients who feel they are being taken advantage of who are contacting their representatives and driving much of this.

They are also working on a maximum markup on the products, so the exploitation of medical marijuana patients will cease.

And again I ask: is it the patients complaining about the proposed legislation, or those who are currently profiting from this?

What dispensary do you work for?

I cannot beleive only 2 people responded to this thread...considering users here are largely medical users, not much interest in this post! WTF?

how about stop complaining about it and make some sugestions on what people can do to not let this happen

Well lets see...I'm keeping the thread HOT by bumping it so more people will SEE it. That's the first step. There are alot of posts on this site and they're easily buried and forgotten.

Secondly, FlyLikeAnEagle already posted Romer's contact information in the top of this thread, so that others can flood Romer's email and other contacts. I have also emailed 53 others here in my state concerning this 'bill'. I didn't elect this bozo but I'll make damn sure he doesn't get re-elected. Voices carry.

Now, what have YOU done, besides criticize what others are already doing?

Yea I dont get it. The people I talk to (other growers, dispensary owners, etc) all have the misconception that in order for anything to be changed the voters must vote on it. That is completely wrong. This or a version of it will go before the Senate next month and it will be voted on, by people who know nothing about this industry, once it passes it goes to the House then to the Governor and becomes law. THIS COULD BE LAW BY FEBRUARY.

This is the biggest threat to the movement to date and if we just sit on our ass and do nothing the greedy assholes that created this problem to begin with will be rewarded and the small time caregivers will be locked out of it.

And there lies the problem. Growers are the most paranoid bunch out of anyone. The dispensary owners have been vocal and thats why this bill is tailored for them. Growers are afraid to say anything and they will be the ones getting fucked.

Trust me, they are not going to come knocking on your door for writing your senator about something you believe in.

It's unconstitutional to put in any restriction saying "good moral character" but I suggest you don't point that out too much in case it does pass.
The tobacco giants would ultimately be the biggest winners, because this line of thinking just leads that way.

It's really stupid no scratch that rediculous for any medical patient to argue this being a good idea all you are doing is shooting yourself in the foot. If being ripped off with high prices is your concern then limit prices, nothing else. Everything mentioned above has only one outcome and that is higher prices and less freedom. You are intentionally squashing the opportunity for anyone but the wealthy to get into it and they aren't known for compassion over profit are they?

Not to mention the minute this passes your clubs will dry up completely for however long it takes new places to get approved for being good and moral and being able to afford the politicians and the right property. You effectively cut off any way to get medicine for the next year at least, other than growing your own.

tahts some lame shit...I've been to some of the dispensaries up here, and we're talkin 15-20 for a gram, of not even mids sometimes!! actually idk the whole difference between mids or whatever, but its definitely not chronic...

I'd really like to become a vendor here in WA and sell for way less than the going rate. fuck profit, life can exist without money, contrary to popular belief.. I'd take more pride in supplying patients with dank buds than getting rich.

come on already, let em grow there fuckin herbs!!!!!!!!!!!!!

p.s.

just a short while ago, all the dispensaries here were shut down because one of them wasnt running legitimately. Needless to say, many many MMJ users were outraged. a few days after the dispensaries were shut down for fear of being arrested, there was a protest in front of the courthouse, and guess what... those protestors made the front page of the newspaper, and within weeks several of the dispensaries opened back up.
