thinking about finding a cheap ballast for the mh bulb.would need everything except the bulb.probably cheaper buying another setup n using 1 for hps n the other for the mh.
If heat isnt a problem I dont really see why u need to even think about it?
Its true the output is higher, but unless u dont have some kinda "cooling" device u cant hang a 600W close as 12inch as I do w my 400W (I would have had a 600W if I could) but u would get a wider light spread, i.e more plants since hung higher w same lumen "hitting" the plant as w a 400W. Lumens are messured 30cm away from the light source, get my point?

A 600W would be better than a 400W any given day, I agree, I was just pointing out that u dont "get" 95,000 lumen to your plant w a 600W unless cooled.I disagree with you here...
It's not just a wider light spread...
A 600 has much more intensity of light... even a few inches further, it will still kick a 400 in the butt... everyday...
The ideal thing is to have a 600 in a sealed reflector... then you can have your plants 6" from the bulb... I have had plenty a but grow taller than the others and finish squished up against the glass... no heat issues or burns...
Someone suggested going magnectic instead of digi and using the price diff to buy the cooltube... if money is the real issue, I would go that route...

i dont see much info on the forums about these most seem to use either mh or hps exclusively or in combination.
