Seeds from the 70s

I am willing to bet that your dad still smokes. It is a very slim chance that the seeds he has came from 40 years ago. If I found seeds in my dads room and he told me he didn't smoke anymore, and they were from the 70's, I'd be like, "BULLSHIT, let's burn one".

So much has happened since then (to everyone's family, i. e. - moving around, theft, anything that would make things go missing), and I am pretty sure those seeds wouldn't have made it 40 years unless there was some kind of reason for keeping them.

I'm not trying to make you upset, What I'm saying is that you need to smoke one with your ole dadski!!
this is what is likey what happened

I buried some purple seeds about two years ago. Labeled them in a bag and put them in a metal box, put them in the ground for someone in the future to find.
very nice time capsal idea. for future generation- nice way to perserv a strain

if kept in a dry cool place i think a few of them could germ....
i think a lot of them will germ
even after many many years

Don't you think there is a chance they put something other than marijuana in there?
Ya know?...I suppose that is possible.. good point! I can't verify it but I have been told that they do mix in a few things over there. There was plenty of opium and heroin available there too.
Of course it was a joint the size of a regular cigarette and we got a little hoggish on it, taking huge hits. At the time, the Thai sticks were pretty killer too. They came in cellophane packed like firecrackers all tied together. Anyway, it's not my thread so I'll save all the reminiscing for another forum.

Maybe 40 years from now when the government kills off marijuana some lucky fella will be walking through the woods and trip over the golden box of magic.

It's an awesome thought that the government will kill off all the marijuana plants?

And I wouldn't put anything past the US government, look what they've already managed to fuck up.

Give it a try. My first grow was using seeds that I had collected over the years. 70% of them germinated. The only hesitation I'd have is a lot of people in the 70's smoked low quality brown weed.

Yeah that's what all my family tells me, the weed today is much better than before. But then they were just buying it off the street and I am buying Medical Marijuana

Just because the seeds may have came from dirt weed does NOT mean the seeds will be dirt. Most of the times they're from good genetics just bad growers. I've grown bud from bagseeds that was shit, but my smoke ended up being 10 times better.

I bet you can make it grow. I have a seed from the 60's (also when my father used to grow) and I'm growing it right now. it's doing great, and smells like skunky deisel, even though its just vegging. What is perplexing me is that it doesn't look very sativa in leaf structure, but it does in node/ branch structure. It is also starting to turn purple at the very apical maristem. THe only technique I used to germ was to scarify the surface of the seed with sand paper Heres a few pics of it.

Wow man, that plant looks awesome. How many weeks in veg are you?
And you say you already smell some skunk in there?
It definetlt has sativa in the genetics.
Can you give us some more details on it.
Height? Medium? So on so forth...

Her specs are:
5 weeks vegging (slow growth...)
Hardly any nutes, just 1/4 strength foxfarm Grow Big occasionally
Shes in a mix of Happy Frog potting soil, Compost, and some Down to earth Mycorrhizae.
Roots are growing EXTREMELY quick.
She's working on her 11th node, and the branches seem somewhat dinky.
only under a couple CFLs right now, for lack of another light source, but she'll be going outside in the middle of march.
Height (from soil) is almost exactly 12 inches, and the base of the stalk is about 1/2 an inch maybe 3/8
24/0 light cycle, 32 ounces of water every 3-4 days.

any other questions can be answered.

Strains from the 70's were NOT all that...I agree some strains have been bastardized and inbred into oblivion, but WILD strains of cannabis have very few that will produce over 10-% THC (average)...
