Planting outdoor in pots??

Outdoor noob

New Member
I hear frequently to plant into the ground whenever planting outdoors, however I was wondering if planting some babies in 3 gallon pots ( 1 per pot ) and leaving the pots at remote locations would be wise?

For stealth purposes ( such as having to move plants incase of a heavy storm or other adverse weather ) seems logical but I fear of consquences in having them in pots that I may overlook? ( e.g quality being affected, stunted growth... etc)

Any advice or thoughts would be appreciated, and also how tall would one expect them to get in 3 gallon pots? ( White russian, Big Bud )

Look at my post I just posted, I'm growing my plants in pots right in front of traffic lol but the hill is sloped down to my advantage, so no one really notices it, give it a few more weeks and they will lol. Anyhow... let's get to the point. You'll be fine growing in pots outdoors, just make sure you spray your plants a couple times a day on a hot, sunny day using a regular spray bottle so that your plant doesn't get burnt, not saying that you need to but it helps. Put them in some decent size pots, anything 3 gallons and over.

bigger the better would have to let them get pretty dry to move them, cant control the storms so why worry about them.

Go as big as you can on the container, the big black recycle boxes work good and some times they are subsided by your city. Even 5 gals from homer depot.

put a couple of baby dippers in the bottom facing up before putting in the dirt, they hold moisture real good pour water on them before covering.. Put some strand copper like from speaker wire around the stalk loosely, take the plastic off it first don't be cheep and not tight. It will keep slugs and snaisl off your plants. Drop a box of Irish spring regular bar soap beside the plant container, poke 3 holes with a knife or screwdriver all the way through the corners of the box, they don't have to be very big, the bar needs to last the season. It keeps deer and other nibblers away. Irish spring!

3 to 6 feet, remember they need room to grow for 4 to 5 months, will work but will limit your growth potential.

Trust me man, You wont need to move plants during storms unless it hailing. Marijuana is a strong plant.

And 3 gallon pots will grow some rootbound ass plants. If you can, try to get like a 7 gallon bucket or bigger and paint it camo style, drill some holes in the bottom, and put good potting soil in those. Your plants would appreciate the bigger root area.

I was growing in a 4.5 gallon bucket this year and within 2 months it was rootbound.

Very helpful thank you.

I wanted to grow in 3 gallons for several reasons

1) Did not want them to get too tall because tall bushy plants are easier to spot and will permeate a stronger smell
2) The amount of work for anything over 3 gallons is too much with my chosen location, I barely managed to do 5 in 3 gallon buckets, took me well over 4 - 5 hours to haul the pots with dirt and water, and even then they did not get a full 3 gallon watering.

My question is how tall can I expect them to get within 3 gallons and yield on average in consistency with the height of the plants?

I have done almost everything you mentioned - great minds think alike I suppose. ;)

The copper wiring was coiled around the pot, no snail problems.
I erected an irish spring soap bar on a pungi stick near my babies, no deer problems.
I did not do anything with the diapers because I wanted to make sure the roots are exposed to maximum amount of oxygen without probable cause of root rot from retained moisutre, it rains almost every week where I am. I also have Advanced nutrients time released fert in the soil, so I need to make sure it drains before next application.

So to my previous question, what can I expect in size (height and weight) with 3 gallon pots and will rootbound plants affect flower potency?

will rootbound plants affect flower potency? yes

Remember it you have pre veged the plants for 2 months they will be bigger and yeild more.

don't get a lot of rain here in the summer, hence the dipers.

Thanks, that gives me a good idea.
That sucks to hear potency is affected... would of only tought the height and bud sites would be limited.
