wow, it's deja vu all over again. what has spirituality to do with the matter at hand? the concept of human greed is nearly universal, those in power have proven time and again that their only interest is the accumulation of more power and yet there are still those who will blindly follow these thieves in order to fulfill some deep seated need for self-flagellation. this isn't doom and gloom, it is merely the reality of the current state of politics. i realize that many would like to believe that al gore is some altruistic guru who had the presidency stolen from him and has gathered together the greatest minds on earth and uncovered this dire catastrophe. i can understand that there are those that honestly believe the un is a body intent on the greatest good for the peoples of the earth. hell, i'm even positive that there are a bunch of folks out there that are just too damn lazy to come to any conclusions for themselves and need someone else to spoon feed them their opinions. all of that doesn't change the fact that anything coming from the mouth of a politician is suspect and the entire global warming issue is a political one.
pessimistic? i would prefer to consider myself careful. greed, bureaucracy and mediocrity are what have always killed civilizations. with our knowledge of the falls of a thousand civilizations you'd think we might at least try to avoid some of the major pitfalls, but it seems we are incapable of learning from past mistakes. instead of reaching for perfection and failing, we reward the inferior and doom ourselves. the outcome is far from certain, but all of the signs of mediocrity run amok are there.
you would assume incorrectly. my son is in his mid-twenties and less concerned with global warming than with trying to gain some measure of comfort before the bureaucrats and do-gooders can take it all away from him. he is no self-important pseudo-intellectual, just an ordinary working stiff waiting to see what tricks will be played on him next.

I'd like to know how you know the sun is getting hotter, Has a man been there to measure it~LOL~? Would the fact that there is more greenhouse gasses have anything to do with the warming of the earth, from your perspective, I'd assume not. Does the receeding ice at the polar caps speak to you, I'd assume not? Does the de-forestation of the globe ring any bells in your mind, I'd assume not. Walking through life with blinders on allows you to blame the sun for all the ills of the planet. Is the sun warming? Not anymore than is usual in it's 3-6 billion year life. There are sunspot activities that affect the earth occasionly, but none seem to be over-active at this juncture. I get it. They test the temperatures of the suns rays from satellites so they are measured above our "green house effected" earth. And all tests show the sun is getting hotter- and at record time. While the pollution going on down here does contribute (like I've said before) it is not the main reason for global warming.

but this is the point of the entire global warming scare - to find scapegoats, give people a target at which to aim their fear, and score political points. as was pointed out by the original poster; one of the main targets has become the republican party, mainly because one of the major advocates of this entire scam is a failed democrat. even though both parties aim their policies at penalizing consumers and restricting our freedoms, the reps have been vilified as the party of big business and, as such, are easy to point to as the scapegoat du jour. no one seems to care that the dems are just as guilty of catering to corporate interests, the band wagon is rolling and the pseudo-intellectual cause-heads just can't wait to climb aboard.
we waste resources because our economic system is built to streamline the flow of goods from manufacturer to consumer and the use or recycling of waste is seen as an unneeded hindrance to that flow. while the masses are squabbling over which hybrid car to pay a premium for, industry is maintaining steady pressure on government to make sure their pockets are kept full with taxpayer funded bail outs, kick backs and subsidies. while incentives are plentiful for industry, we see only penalties and restrictions for consumers. instead of encouraging innovation and allowing new technologies to be more easily introduced, government prefers to prop up the dinosaurs of energy and manufacturing in order to receive the funds they need to consolidate their power. while big business receives carrot after carrot, we get only the stick.

Well, yeah. I'm against all forms of pollution and especially the gross polluters like corporate pirates. Hey, I'm guilty as sin when it comes to pollution. I am trying to clean up my act, but compared to a large corporation, I'm small change. Just by virtue of my American lifestyle I am a polluter. The natives, Indians, pretty much had a lock on non-polluting lifestyles. But we all can't live in teepees and crap down the hill, nor ride horses to work, so Bio-degradable containers need to be mandated. Plastics need to be formulated to break down in the earth or sea, emissions need to be scrubbed of toxins, and green house gasses. Yeah, it would cost more, but maybe those stockholders would just have to make a little less, heaven forbid. I'm not even sure there is a solution outside of mass extermination of the race (Bilderbergs assumption of reducing the planets populace to around 350 million). I wonder how they intend to do that. I think they already tried with AIDS, working well in Africa I'm told.
