I know this has been discussed before but I feel that adding to rep is somewhat important. Ever wonder why people like CHB, FDD and Sicc are always answering questions and the people asking the questions take what they say as truth? 1. Coming from those guys it probably is truth but how did you decide to accept their answer as truth? Because you looked at their post count and reputation and thought to yourself "He must know somewhat what he is talking about. Look at his #'s. So here is my advice to the community: Please if someone helps you out +rep them. You may find your own rep grow as a result. I WILL PLUS REP ANY NEW JACK THAT POSTS IN THIS THREAD ABOUT THE TOPIC.

Yeah most do but I based this thread on trying to help the new guy understand what rep is all about. I have conversed with you a bit and I do believe you even added to my rep at one point. Thanks UK +rep

Yeah on the other hand there are heaps of crew here that have mass post count and lots of rep but from talk and toke and they really have no idea about growing

I understand that too but most of the casual toke & talkers don't profess to know growing as the guys that I mentioned do. I am by know means saying trust all the people with 2000 posts. I was on here a week and I new who to ask. You weed through the bullshit when you have a question and ask the guy or girl (I see you Lacey) that probably knows.

if your ego needs it,and you need to seem like your important to the internet. I can tell from what someone types whether they are full of it or not. I have never even paid attention to post count or rep points.

Those things are just number to me as well, these things are no indication of intelligence in the field of cannabis cultivation, and rep should be given to those who share the knowledge that they possess with the people who need help...

I couldn't agree more. A high post count means you type a lot....doesn't mean you know what you are talking about. I pay more attention to attitude and what people actually say. I'd rather see a few quality posts than 40,000+ posts of a lot of bad attitude.... That's the internet though, anyone can post...you have to wade through a lot of bullshit to find the good stuff.

i think the rep is handed out way to easy and looking at post count doesn't mean squat. you see folks that have only been members for a few months and they have well over 1000 post and still asking if they can germanate in a cup of kool aid to add flavor. research the advice you were given, before just doing it. it will save your ass.

giving out rep for pointing out the rep bar is a classic reason you can't count on the rep bar for sound growing advice.

Rep is more of a sign of longevity on the site than anything. When I see a full rep bar, I know that person has frequented the site for a while. Frequenting RollItUp is a great way to learn and deal with a lot of different problems without having to do it firsthand. Saying that, people with full rep bars typically know what they're talking about either from experience or just being around long enough to have seen the problems us noobs deal with.

Bullshit.

Whether or not I decide to accept somebody's advice has nothing to do with their post count or their rep.

Well I have a lot of posts for not being here too long, but it isn't because I troll around and don't offer any help. I am a new grower but I can still help and this site has taught me plenty so I try to return the favor by teaching others. I don't get rep most the time, but I notice who is around helping and who to listen to about things I don't know.

also keep in mind that if you are getting repped by newbs with little or no rep themselves it is going to take a million reps to move that meter, but it doesn't mean you didn't help tons of people or know what you're talking about. it's just that the people you helped didn't have rep power yet. for this reason i always try to rep a newb that just pulled off their first grow. it's an exciting milestone to harvest your own.

rep and post count are factors as to the "trustworthiness" of that person's advice...but your own common sense should be in there as well.

If the person's advice seems outlandish...consider it suspect and seek multiple opinions. Even if the person has a lot of posts/rep.

definitely agree with the being able to tell if someone is full of shit by the way they type. anyone who doesn't posses this skill should be very careful about the grow advice they just 'accept'

plus, if you truly know a lot about growing, it's obvious when someone is spouting bullshit. and others will call them out on it.

+rep is not handed out enough. Cant count how many times ive helped and didnt even get a thanks at the least :(
that's for DAMN sure. all my rep came from stupid bullshit, all the stuff I thought was rep worthy didn't get rep at all. so rep and post number definitely don't matter.
