most of the time you cannot just rewire a fan and have it spin in opposite direction. you will suprised with how many fans out there that cant be changed to spin in opposite direction...requires a special motor. reversing polarity did not do the trick on a few of my house fans. i had to take apart the whole fan motor mounting bracket and spin the shaft around and re assemble. im sure dc is just trying to give you a heads up before you go out and spend some money.

but its doable with a little know how and a few tools. thats why its in the diy section, im sure d.c was just trying to be a know it all buzz kill. reversing flow is as easy as reversing the angle of the blades or by turning them up side down. again not the most simple thing to do. but its doable and under $1200-$1500

I could mount a fan blade to my 1/2 hp motor with a set screw, nut and bolt.

But I think it would spin too fast. I only have one speed, ON.

Maybe a 1/4 HP pump motor would work best, you can buy them that spin counter clockwise. Mine does.

i guess the question would be (before you spend 100 dollars) is are you sure it can be turned upside down....sure you can bend the blades to pull air but this is extremely difficult being you must balance it afterwords. just make sure you know it is possibly before you buy it. you must also think about the distance between the cutting edge and the guard. this is another thing that cant be a big pain in the ass.

i prefer to shop in places i can see what i am buying, this way i can devise a plan and then purchase it....i agree it can always be done, just to which level of difficulty and how much time will it take?

there are many motors out there that can be reversed or come reversed by factory settings. try mcmaster.com....you can also by fan blades that are designed to pull air.

agreed...im very visual about things. if i se it i can build it. if youve seen the trip pro up close and the inflate-a-dummy fans up close youd get the same ideas:hump::joint:

right on have you purchased it yet? post a few pictures of what you did and how it works....if you got something goin on i got 100 bucks to invest in a trimmer.

right now im in the process of blowing my stack on building a vertical set up in an unused closet:bigjoint: but once i get that diailed in im going to start on the trimmer build, prob in a few weeks or so.:joint: i will be sure to post the results when i get it figured out:hump:

I only read the first page but I always wondered about fan trimmers; don't those really beat up the trichomes? Especially the first guys (who said they built theirs for $15 bucks) were rubbing their plants hard on the fan grates to get those leaves of. It look like the plant doesn't like that...

EDIT: I understand a some people grow A LOT of weed so those trimmers might be necessary for some people.
But wouldn't it be better to chop off 90% of the plant, then finish it off manually?

That goes right back to the A LOT of weed growers. Production. Time is money. There are lots of old timers out there that just arent connoisseurs with pot.

If your box is hooked to a 120plug you could wire a dimmers switch either one for 3 speed fan or 600watt dimmers.... i like both because the one for the wall

Love this one! Plus, I already have the Dremel tool and possibly the compression grommet in my toolbox. seems a lot more elegant and safe. Not too fond of the high-speed metal blade. (lost finger waiting to happen IMHO)

Ive used my trimbox for several harvests now and I am sooo glad I made it.

It turns an 8 hour harvest job into 1 hour with the power trimmer.

At first I was going to use a thin piece of metal but it was spinning very fast. So I switched to the much safer plastic weed wacker trimmer line.


It does a great job at "Big Leafing"
