Every time someone in the neighborhood fed strays, months later there would be at least 10... shitting nasty ass chocolate in every yard stinking up the block and staying awake all night fucking underneath cars. :lol:

these 4 are mine and they have all their shots, including their rabies vaccines. they all see the vet regularly.

this is the stray, we assume. it has been around for years. it looks clean and healthy. it may just be a neighbors cat that prefers hanging out here. i am not sure if it has shots or not. if we ever were to get a hold of it it would go straight to the vet for shots. we're pretty good on keeping up with all that. i doubt we'll ever so much as pet it, so unless it goes crazy and comes after me i think i'm safe from it. my other cats get along with it, for the most part.

any mammal can carry rabies. it is transferred mostly thru saliva. humans can not give it to each other. once you show signs of symptoms there is no cure and you will die. opossums have a low body temperature that the virus has a hard time staying alive at. it is rare that an opossum will have the rabies virus. raccoons are the second largest carries next to skunks. there has been 2 cases of rabies in the past 12 years in my county. one case involved a fox, the other a bat.

6 nonths ago we were awoken by a noise in the evening. i went into my kitchen. we have a metal screen security door with a cat door on it. the backdoor is left cracked open in the evening, the security door is closed. when i opened the backdoor all the way there were 4 babies raccoons and my cat stuck to the inside of the door. the mother had already gotten out the cat door. the others all were stuck inside scared. i opened the security door and everybody jumped off and ran.

so i know there was a mother and 4 babies. we have only seen this one coon now for the past month or 2. i think all the others have gone off in different directions to start their own families. they have always been in the neighborhood and have never been a problem.

why do people want to immediately kill that which they fear? :-|


none of these animals are causing any problems. if they do then they will be dealt with in a humane manner. :cool:

had to shoo one away from the front of my tent the other night. they stand on their hind legs and growl. fucking things scare me. i'd love to cuddle one though. they're cute as all hell. :hug:

Fuck the haters - these guys are awesome. We have lots of wild animals around here, any of which could have rabies. There were like 1, maybe 2 cases of it last year in an enormous area. More likely your cats will get attacked if they mess with the animals, but there is so much food available that you should be fine.

Besides, even if they did, your animals have to get rabies vaccines like every 2 years, and the vaccine prolly protects from rabies for at least 5 years.... rabies is basically propaganda at this point

the camera is strapped to the ladder under the umbrella. we get fog over night and the lens gets wet without the umbrella. the food bowl is to the right. they come thru the garden and pass directly in front of the tent to get to the food. when you see them looking to the left in the pics they are most likely listening to me snoring. :bigjoint:

that is the true nature of man...unfortunately. And unfortunately, it will never change. Dude coons, i love the pun. And I share your love for creatures, I wouldn't have the balls or inhumanity to kill something that hasn't harmed me in any way, and is innocent as ever. I hit a raccoon a few weeks ago, maybe a month, so sad :sad: but I like the entice with marijuana cooked goods lacing idea...go with that

everyone can now say "i told you so".


my wife opened the back door a few days ago only to find a baby opossum ripped to shreds. i got up this morning and found a small adult, just the head and front arms, in my garden area. there is a BIG male coon, and he is killing things. :evil:

we went and rented a raccoon trap today. we have to trap them and take them to the humane society to be euthanized. i am suffering some serious moral drama right now.

the raccoons were here before we started feeding them. the only reason we ever fed them was because a girl at the pet store recommended it. they were coming in the house. she said to put food outside and it would keep them from coming in. it did work, for almost 2 years. but now we have an established population of killers running loose.

we're gonna start with the biggest male first. there is a female with at least 3 babies. i just don't have the heart to kill the little ones. i don't really have the heart to kill any of them, but if they get a hold of one of our cats i'll never be able to live with myself.

I feel for you my friend, I had a male coon for a pet when I was in my teens (hand raised from an infant) & they can become savage in an instant - almost what I equate with being Bi-polar in a human.
If I was in your neck of the woods I'd help, I have the expertise.
Grit your teeth & do what needs to be done.

pretty much a matter of setting the trap and then driving across town.

i have been hand feeding the female with babies. i have seen then snap at each while eating. it's scarey how fast it all changes. i have nightmares of waking up with them in my bed.

"I was trying to calm the dog down and saw the raccoon walking toward us. Then I saw four more run down from the trees and I started to run as fast as I could, dragging the dog," Rachel Campos de Ivanov, 33, explained to Oakland Tribune. "My dog was barking, trying to fight them off and I was trying to protect my face while on the ground. I was wearing long pants and a jacket, my face was the only thing exposed."
Campos de Ivanov suffered a bite to the leg and now must endure rabies treatment.

What does your animal shelter charge for euthanizing? An alternative is to simply drop the occupied trap into a large tote or ice chest filled with water.
It ain't pretty, but it is effective and quick - - and probably cheaper.

when i was young i witnessed my father rid our yard of a coon. we had some 3ft holes dug up for a new patio and so he put the coon in there and threw the hose in there with a piece of plywood on top and his foot.
