Hey man if youʻre still having trouble with the "bleaching" in your photos try to take your pictures on an overcast day. Without the glare of the sun on everything you might be able to get some better detailed pictures. Did you go through your settings and change the exposure??

I live around tons of clay soil, and grew up using it. Gotta make sure you break it up really well, it holds water too well, it doesn't allow for enough soil to air transpiration, doesn't allow for enough oxygen to penetrate to the roots being converted to CO2 and released through the topsoil. Suffocating roots won't pull water, or nutrients, wont get the plant what it needs to grow, but will fight and fight to sustain itself.

Cultivate.
hmm, alright well the clay soil has washed over the top of the soil I put in so its probably suffocating I guess I didn't really think about that because I know the mix I put it is great stuff lots of perlite and vermiculite. I didn't use too much of the native soil in the mix so.. should I be ok if I cultivate the surface to let some oxygen in? I might mulch around the base to to keep the rain from washing it back over it. And also when it rains all the sand splashes up and coats the stems and undersides of the bottom leaves so that is probably choking her out as well.

that word you used cultivate, it pulled the trigger on my brainwaves so thank you for that.

thats why you have to dig one of those 5 feet wide, 5 feet deep holes, then fill it with amended soil, like FFOF and happy frog, or Promix
I went 2'x2' this year next year will be different. I will be more prepared and more aware, Already making plans of course.

yeah Its a cheap piece of crap vivitar 50$ from walmart. I've adjusted the settings and pretty much I've been doing what you mentioned and taking the pics at dimmer times of day or when its overcast.
Oh and thanks for stopping in.

your welcome.

Yes, cultivate the clay out of the topsoil, and replace with Gardner & Bloome Soil Building Compost in a riing around the plant about 1/2-1 inch thick in the middle, with a 2" barrier on the outside of the ring to prevent more clay from washing in. I would recommend sprinkling some Earth worm castings at two double handed handfuls for every 12" away from the base of the plant your ring goes. It will help hold everything in place while allowing gas transfer, among many other things. The most important part is watering as soon as its all laid out.

Trim the under growth a little, anything fully shaded most of the day (for large plants), and for smaller plants you could try training techniques that pull the inner branches out away from the plant as well as the tops ;).

Pics always make things easier though ;).

You do like that G&B SBC don't you? I see what It does though so I know why, now I have to find some.

I have a large compost pile probably 3 yards worth but It is mostly horse manure and straw I just started it this spring but the manure had already been composting. Probably wouldn't be the best choice but I have some decomposing wood chips I could mix it with.

I did take some pictures today I'm working with them now rotating and resizing they will be up soon.

I actually don't like the G&B SBC, it just works really well as a mulch, providing nutes, easy airaetion, drainage, ph buffers, and water retention while breaking up natural clays. It also helps keep the roots cool ;). Its not supposed to fill a pot though, its not soil ;).

There is a link to the website with dealers in my outdoor journal.

Your plants just look hungry.

Cultivate ;)

Yeah and I have very limited indoor experience, basically I've only been growing since my join date of june 2009. Now I got a 3ft mini bush, so I don't think I'm doing to bad progress is progress and I feel like I'm setting a pretty good pace. Next year is going to be different, much has been learned this year. Next year will be better, I waited to long too long this year to shock my plants with 12/12 for sex and I didn't have enough time for re veg and to make the adjustment to 15 hours of light and I think it slowed them down. I also didn't protect them with cages until it was too late for one of them. Others I put in places that were not receiving enough light, and I didn't dig big enough holes and I defiantly did not put out enough plants. Next year I am digging 20 4'x4' holes in better locations I'm going to fence them in better and I'm going to use the 12" round coir mats to cover the soil at the base to help keep away the digging creatures and prevent the rain from splashing up sand and clay so it doesn't coat the undersides of my plants and suffocate them. I might even use clones if I get legal by then I am 21 now so I'm working on it.

This is the path I'm walking down, Its the one I have chosen and Its the one I am staying on.

Right on brother. Thats what it's all about, learning from our previous mistakes. Sounds like ya have a plan for next year and I am sure you will end up with a monster of a harvest.

Peace ,

yeah hopefully I can pull something decent this year but realistically I'm looking at 5 ounces on the high side. I needed at least a pound but there is always next year.

There are all still alive. Im looking back and I did forget to mention that I took a clone of the larger plant earlier in august before flowering started. So I have three ladies again I should have taken more clones because this one is doing great I have it out there in a 3 gallon pot. I bought some Earth Juice Amazon Bloom soil and its great shit no complaint from me other than it being 15$ a bag. I will try to get some pics up soon but I cant promise anything. Right now I have a tea brewing for the girls lots of good shit made 10 gallons this time, with kelp and alfalfa meal added some Ironite micro-nutrient, compost, EJ bloom, Espoma plant tone, and some molasses. The big girl is hungry I have only been feeding one gallon and its not covering the 10gallons of rootspace and all the fall rain has been flushing the soil.
