My first grow I used FoxFarm soil and the FoxFarm nutrient trio - Grow Big, Big Bloom, and Tiger Bloom. I followed the feeding schedule with a few tweaks and never had a single problem except for the fact that the damn plants outgrew my grow area (my fault. I didn't know they were Sativas).

Coco isn't technically soil, it's soil-less, but a block that fills six or so 5-gallon buckets is only 11bucks from General Hydroponics.
Coco doesn't have any nutrients, so you have to provide your own with your strict feeding schedule.

For nutrients,
My first time, was with General Hydroponics.

When it's my friends first time,
I make things super simple.
Oneness (For veg)+(For first half of flowering)
Ginormous (For first half of flowering) + (Second half of flowering)

If I could only draw a graph, but pretty much the simpler I make things for my friends the better. I now don't discuss topping techniques with them or I'll come over one day and it will turn out they haven't stopped topping since the last time i was over.

But yeah. I start seedling on 1 ml of Oneness, 2ml the next week, then 3ml, etc depending on how long you veg
switch lights to bloom
3ml oneness + 3ml Ginormous
2:4 O:G
1:5 O:G
0:6 O:G
0:7 O:G
0:7 O:G
0:10 O:G
Flush and done
Just a rough estimate, per gallon,

11.00 - For a Bale of cocotek for six 5-gallon buckets
13.00 - for 16oz Oneness
16.00 - for 16oz Ginormous

There could be a slight calcium deficiency... so you should have to add a cal-mag booster like Equilibrium
or, I just expand my coco with a light PH balanced Equilibrium solution to infuse some calcium into that medium.
But there are claims that Oneness can be used as a complete standalone nutrient. I assume those that did, had to lock out nitrogen by changing the ph levels**

I swear I don't advertise for these guys, but they should ****** pay me or send me my ***** nutes on backorder this week or something.... I digress

These are my three favorite container mediums:
1. Coco-mixed cuts & layered but straight coco
2. Perlite-mixed sizes as well but Hempy Bucket
3. Coco:Perlite - 60:40

ok thanks. for veggie which foxfarm fertilizer should i use and the NPK
I went with the original Foxfarm Original Planting mix. You can grow in that soil for at least two weeks (recommended) before you start adding nutes. It's ph balanced. Then go with the grow big (6-4-4).

get some coco soil and some canna nutrients. doesnt get easier then that! use half the strenght they tell u to use. if you read the label properly it will say something like 20ml maximum per 10L. so you should 10ml per 10L to not burn your plants.

Agreed!!! Except grow area is big enough, but the damn roots out-grow 2x 3 gals double-potted. I think there is a table spoon of magic in fox farms nutes lol! And ya you do gotta tweak their schedule a little bit. Its confusing but there are tons of threads to help you get the mixtures right.

The Nutri+ line is fucking awesome. Any Fox Farm soil is great. You'll always have additives for the later stages of flowering but Nutri+ is pretty badass

I would recommend that if you go with Fox Farms Ocean Forest to pick up Fox Farms Light Warrior also. Use a 2:1 Ratio (2 x FFOF:1 x FFLW). As FFOF by itself can nute burn a plant from seed but with Light Warrior mixed in, it seems to stop that.

Soil can be a pain in the but ! I used FFOF my first time no additives . IT held water for like 5 damn days and compacted pretty bad by the end of the grow. Lesson learned? Yes you have to add perlite to just about any soil as there are none suited for cannabis out of the bag.

2nd grow I used Roots Organics veg and Happy Frog in flower . Lesson learned ? Yes any soil you buy just about is going to have a bug problem eventually fucking fungus gnats ! Going soiless for next grow .Avoiding straight up coco ,dont want to have to maintain 5.5 ph.
Sunshine or Promix are good soiless soils . They are pretty much nothing but peat moss and perlite.Thats been my soil experiance.:)

Your going to get mixed responses on the "best" fertilizer . From what I've learned it's just all about money and how much your willing to fork up. The "best" value for the product is Jacks Classic which is made by JR Peters .THe company has been in business long b4 all these expensive cannanutes showed up.They have many years in developing their product. A small tub is 5 bucks and u only use a 1/4 of a teaspoon .The Fox Farms nutes are a good easy to use line most everyone has some sucess with their products.Just head everyones warnings on starting out with a low dose .Good luck brother !

It depends on if its a sensitive strain . I have started all kinds of seeds in FFOF with no burn .

in canada u can technoflora bc bloom, boost, grow etc.. line, the canna line , advanced nutrients line and general hydroponics, each hydro store will have a few other brands but u will ind these brands at everyone of them. u dont want to grow with foxfarm. its far from being a good product to use for weed.

I have been investigating MG soil and it seems the biggest gripe is that they have time released fertilizer in the soil which makes it hard to add nutrients without burning . I found that the MG cactus/citrus mix has NO time released fertilizer just a starter charge even promix and sunshine have a starter charge of nutrient . The soil is listed as fast draining and contains peat, sand, forest humus ,and perlite. I,m testing it out now with 2 plants up against 2 with Happy Frog . The bags are small 8 quarts for 4 and sum change . Been real happy with the Happy Frog though sorry you can't get Fox Farm in your area .

That's a great find kingofqueen. Cool. I'm going to try that on my next grow. I'd love to see the comparison results.

Re: Arik maso's statement of MG is no good, I think that's a bit harsh.

Argument against MG:

It's already got nutes, and they are what they are, so you can't customize and do your own special nutes without much care and calculation.

Argument for MG:

If you don't want to bother with putting in custom nutes, mixing bat guano tea, or whatever it is...then hey it's done for you. Granted you may not get optimal results, but you'll get pretty darn big plants with a minimum of muss and fuss. Also if you're willing to do some thinking, you can get some Shultz or whatever and lightly supplement the soil whenever you wish, although it's not as easy as starting from scratch.

Argument for MG:

It's easy to find and you can't really fuck it up and it's already light and fluffy and doesn't compact. You don't need to mix in your own perlite or whatever. It's also pretty cheap.

The BIG con (as far as I can tell):

You can't really flush MG with time release before flowering. Some people think that if you can't do that then your smoke will be harsher. I haven't A/B'd that, so I can't say that's for sure. Now that wouldn't be a problem with the cactus mix.

So in a nutshell, if you want easy soil and you don't want to mess with nutes, MG is fine. If you feel better customizing your soil, it's not the way to go. I've had great results both ways.

I can tell you this, I've done grows where I check the plants morning and night, perhaps again before I go to sleep, where I've customized the soil, flushed, humidified, kept constant track of temperature and panicked if it was off by a few degrees and I've done grows where I've planted in miracle grow, checked in and watered once every three days. At the end of both I got good and stoned. I'm not saying that MG is better, far from it, but keep in mind you are growing a weed.

Good luck, whichever way you choose.

I,ll post pics in my thread on the results . I,m still skeptical but would like to know that I can buy a bag of soil from the home improvement store instead of the nursery or hydro store . Not one nursery or hydro store has every product i need . I have to visit 3 different stores to start a damn grow . Thats why I,m testing the MG cactus mix , i did ammend it with more perlite . 1 pot has standard ferti-lome pearlite the other pot has the Mg Pearlite , it has some nitrogen in it but its numbers are like .02 % which isn,t much . Other than nutrient , I'd like to be able to start a grow from home improvement stores because prices are cheaper and lots less driving .
