Control Spider Mites...ORGANICALLY

Good luck with the cilantro.

I grow 'mostly' organic, but when it comes to mites I go right to the best chemical weapons available, FORBID and FLORAMITE.

Mites don't play and neither do I.

I'd go with Neem oil before your suggestions, but the coriander route appeals to me. Who knows, it might work as well or better than commercial chemicals?

Good luck smoking chemicals, I'll pass.

I've had mites,, little feckers,, corriander sound intresting,,aniseed grow along side prevent aphid,,so,,,
ive used neem, as spray and soil drench,, limted results, so got chemials from the garden store,,one spray of that, washed off,,waited 5 days, then started a neem regium of 3 doses, with a 3 day gaps,,7mls to a liter, one drop liquid soap,, worked a treat after the chemicals killed most the nasty bastards!
Got ever last mite ,,, finger crossed, never again, if they do come back, I'll be ready.......
ITS WAR against pests,,,

Just outta intrest you ever see the thread with the 'gaured frog', sorry for spelling very high,, but yeah,, its awsum, 3 pics,, is a huge beaszt of a frog. I been think about installing a small pond in grow room, but then that will probly bring in more problem,,,haha,,,

Take it easy....

Thanks, bunnyface, do you have a link to that thread?

People around here mix all kinds of effective organic concoctions...I like that. Just because you don't buy something commercially, doesn't mean it won't be effective.

Cheers!

Hey Viagro,,,
I just tryed finding that thread,, taking alot longer than I thought,, it was in th gardening sub-forum if that helps.
There a couple if I remember rightly,,
Yeah, in all honesty the neem was what got them. It was quite a large infestation so the contact killing chem was a last resort.

Another I have yet to try is nicotine spray. Put a ciggy 2/3 or bacci, good half gram to gram, I smoke roll ups, in 1 litre hot water, with one drop dish soap. leave over nite, stir, apply as spray ,wait day and wash with water. I got that one outta my bible, had made up the solution and was ready to apply but the neem did its stuff so didnt have to use it.

Hey, and just as a thought,,,Dose using one drop of dish soap count as chemicals,,,?????????

^^^ Me and the wife were just talking about the nico-spray and how it was a really cool old-school organic pesticide. I hear it does work, but probably smells like shit when it's boiling or steeping up depending on your method of preparation. (Edit: I wonder if some good pipe tobacco would smell good?)

If the one drop of dish soap is 'green' or 'organic' I think you'd be cool with the organic folks lol. =)

My concern with homemade nicotine concoctions is tobacco mosaic virus. It's a bad scene...
One drop of soap is within my personal organic tolerance parameters. :)

I have neem oil. It seemed to act like a fertility drug with mites. LOL

I just use what's necessary and 90% of the time Safers soap or neem or BT gets the job done and all I need.

Mites just seem to be something else. I don't smoke it, after 10 weeks it's broken down and gone. I hit my clones just before 12/12 and that's it till chop. Nothing else gets applied in bud, chems or organic.

BTW, I used to be a licensed applicator and know a little about this stuff.

Yeah, but using a scent they can't tolerate gets rid of them quick and easy. Clean and simple. Companion planting seems ideal to me.

My wife and I both can't abide the scent or taste of cilantro, so you are right about that! LOL

I do companion planting in my garden (marigolds mainly), but have never tried it indoors. It does work great. Next season I'm going to give Lavender a shot. Gotta smell better than the marigolds.

Thinking about it, the only time I do use chems is just for mites.

Yeah, but that one time is one time too many for me. I plant marigolds, too, and I don't like the smell of cilantro, either.
But I need to write down its bonus benefit of not only keeping mites away, but you as well.:idea:;)

there is an organic product called Liquid Ladybug that has peppermint oil in it and works very effective. you spray it on the first, the fifth, and the tenth day....what nice about the product is that you can use it up all the way till harvest.

I would imagine you could use coriander spray until harvest as well. But, peppermint oil is a cool idea. I have some peppermint oil, I think I'll combine the two.

So many things can be put together DIY, I'd much rather make something than buy something. It makes me a bit twitchy when folks begin to act like something has to have a label, and come from a store, to be legitimate and effective.

Thanks for the insight.

+rep for peppermint tip

in the beginning i am using NeemAzal, its very concentrated azadirachtine-a from neem tree
http://www.ecogrape.com/neemazal
and in later state of infection i'm using another one because it also removes the webs if sprayed on, smells like some vegetable juice and on the bottle it also says azadirachtine-a is active ingridient, works nice and no problems when applied i week before harvest:
http://www.arts-info.eu/en/biological_red_spider_mite_control.html
they are both organic.....
but also heard about something they sell here,i am not sure if its organic but they say it works best
http://www.3ch.co.uk/plant-aid/pest-control/plant-vitality-plus/prod_765.html
but i read it contains this, and it is possibly not so healthy (for humans):
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Abamectin
http://pmep.cce.cornell.edu/profiles/extoxnet/24d-captan/abamectin-ext.html
there is also another product with same name from different company:
https://www.growshoponline.nu/index.php?page=shop.product_details&category_id=110&flypage=flypage.tpl&product_id=1002&option=com_virtuemart&Itemid=14&vmcchk=1&lang=en
i have ordered it and will give it a try, probably someone already has exp with the plant vitality plus ?
