SAN JOSE, Calif. -- Supporters of medical marijuana partook in a fundraiser Friday night in San Jose to raise legal funding for collectives caught up in a recent crackdown.
Attendees said the Thursday raids by the Santa Clara County Drug Task Force on three South Bay collectives made them more determined to hold the Medical Cannabis Fundraiser.
The event, which took place inside the MedEx Collective Friday night, consisted of dozens of collective members smoking large amounts of marijuana. A man dressed as Santa helped pass around large baskets filled with joints to attendees, who smoked the offerings openly inside the club. The collective was also open for business, selling various quantities of pot and pot-laced products.
"The collectives that are part of this fundraiser are drawing a line in the sand," said Douglas Carter, founder of Angel's Care Collective.
Representatives from the collectives vowed to keep operating.
"[It was] definitely very scary to be operating today," said Daniel Hovland, president of the MedEx Collective. "Whether we're closed or we're open, they're gonna come and do it anyway. So, for us it's about helping the patients."
On Friday the head of the Santa Clara County Drug Task Force didn't return calls made by KTVU News seeking more information on the raids. The task force has stated numerous times that the raids target marijuana clubs allegedly making a profit under the guise of a being a non-profit and for selling marijuana illegally, such as to non-members.
Some officers wore black ski-masks during and drew their weapons during Thursday's raids. Collective workers said that made them feel like task force officers were acting like criminals.
"It left me with my heart pounding and processing, 'oh, not a robbery- police,'" Patricia Sanchez said.
"They were trying to make a lot of destruction and noise and scare us all," Shelby Ferry said. "They scared a lot of the patients."
The city of San Jose planned to hold a special public hearing on marijuana dispensaries this Monday. Many owners said they eventually want to fight the raids in court.

New to forumn, but had to comment. I just read the entire thread and I'm impressed with how decent you all seem to be. So many threads filled with haters, yet you guys rose above.
On topic...we felt the change coming and decided to "re-invent" ourselves. Hired an attorney, became a not for profit collective, tied it into our existing 30 light grow op, and started building members 1 at a time. No storefront...just a group of patients referred by other patients. Some "heavy medicators" may be re-selling because our prices are wholesale. This would be illegal and they would have to leave the collective if we found out they were. We have a 1 oz minimum, and gro 4-7 strains at a time. Patients can request a strain and we will grow it. It took us 2 years to build it up, but now our members use every bit of medication we can produce from a pretty productive operation. This, we believe, is the future.
I wish all of you the best of luck. Keep an open mind during these changing times and you will thrive.

collective gardener, can you tell me what county your lawyer is in and perhaps his office number?
I have been looking for a lawyer who can understand a collective agreement but most say its not legal binding.
I believe it is and have attended a norml gathering and spoke to the lawyer there and he was pretty confused.
Also I was unable to send you a PM but you can send me your lawyers phone number so I can schedule an hour with him?

We're located in Ventura, Ca. I can recommend James Divine from Liederman and Divine to set up your collective. James is a business lawyer, specializing in marijuana law, and Liederman is a criminal defense lawyer, also in marijuana law. As you can expect, these guys aren't cheap, but have served us well over the years.
Meeting with a marijuana business lawyer was the best move I ever made. It put to rest all the BS rumors and speculation tossed around on the net. The main thing to keep in mind is that pot is illegal with the Feds...period. Over 100 plants can get you 5 years quite easily. Our biggest challenge is maximizing yield in a 30 light commercial grow op with 99 plants. As a 20 year SOG vetran, this required re-learning everything I knew about maximum yields! Oh well...it does keep it interesting

It would be great if you guys could keep posting what collectives are paying wholesale for various strains. Armed with this info, I believe growers can avoid getting low balled.
Our group overflows some indoor organic OG to one place for $3,600/lb. They claim it's the most they pay anyone for any strain and keep threatening to drop the price on us. Yet, they keep on buying. It does seem like weed is falling into 2 categories: The top 5% ultra-kill....and everything else.

Very common experience there. But stick to your 36 guns. That is generally the tops (unless your name is matt rize lol and you have the only veganic herb around.)

the most i've ever gotten for a pound was $3800, to a club, 6 years ago. it was some of the best bud they had seen. i was so good i went back a few days later and was sold some without even knowing it. fools changed the name on me. told me "you gotta try this new stuff we just got in". i didn't even bother looking at it. trusted the bud tending girl because we were all friends. she didn't know it was mine. they were raving about it so loudly i just scooped up an 1/8th. got home and opened the bag, ...................... all i could do was laugh. next to me on the couch was a jar full of the exact same stuff. i paid 55 for that 1/8th.

hey guys i was wondering if anyone could help me out im in san diego till after the new year and am having problems finding meds because i am from out of state(New York) can anyone reccomend a place to get a card with a out of state id or any other way to get my meds im having a hard time without them

we have been seeing outdoor- and even some indoor cali wayyy out here on the east coast, im talking atlantic ocean is few mins away east coast, 5-packs being mailed usually go for 3-35 per lb, we are the ones who are getting what the clubs wont take lol, still goes for alot out here, but would be better if wasnt always last years outdoor ..lol..oh well

we find it really easy to get good money for good stuff...its all these med people that grow crap that cant get any thing for it.
maybe where you are. it's a buyers market here. and it's all better then most of the indoor i've seen lately.
