and to the man that said w.w. is an old school strain your wrong.. white widow was bred in the 90's... skunk is old school since the 70's.. romulan is old school, northern lights is old school, afghani is old school, ect.
white widow is not old school.. its a newwer cross.. its just that now the hype has died down some... widow has little taste, and the high gets old quick, and tolerence is built in record time to it.... has someone already said on here the kushes are much more potent, pungent, tastey...

From what I read from shanti arjan just had the coffeshop or whatever. Neville and shanti were breeders and greenhouse was their outlet. That's why when he decided to leave arjan didn't get shit cuz if anything I think that arjan was just paying them to be the only vendor of their stock and arjan never had anyhing to do with the breeding.

I'm not trying to argue with you or anything just trying to clear things up. I just read the post the other day so it's still prett clear. Also, these aren't direct quotes this is my interpretation of the events so if I'm wrong I apologize.
In 1990 Shantibaba began to work with Neville and they bred seeds and used Arjan's coffee shops to introduce them. In 1994 Shantibaba and Arjan opened up Green House Seeds and Neville still worked with Shantibaba breeding and Arjan handled the business and marketing end. In 1998 Shantibaba sold his share of Green House Seeds to Arjan, took all his genetics with him, his stable of breeding stock, and moved to Switzerland and also opened Mr. Nice Seeds and is the sole owner, though Neville continued to work with him and Howard Marks was/is also involved. When Shantibaba split Neville also took his genetics, his breeding stable, that among others strains, strains like Super Silver Haze and Mango Haze came from, but were sold under the Green House Seeds name, and off he went, like Shantibaba, leaving Arjan, the bookkeeper/marketing man, with little more than the Green House Name.

im jus goin off personal experience, bagseed has a horrible male - female ratio...but that is a good point. tho it seems that some of the ones that come in packs look good too thats why i was interest in the kushberry cuz if i wasnt trying to spend more then 100, id get kushberry n somethin from a 30 $ pack like world of seeds fem stuf was lookin at strawberry blue... cronic haze... ny 47... now its hard to diside cuz if i go with blackwidow instead, then i cant afford the kushberry but if i get kushberry theres a free seed that has WW in the strain, also can get seedmans WW. idk... i guess the disider wud be how good black widow is compared to kushberry ny 47 cronic haze n strawberry blue

As the saying goes, all things are relative, and to the many puppies of today a strain created in the 90's is old school to them. Old school to me are landrace strains like Panama Red and Colombian Gold and Durban Poison and Dalat and Acapulco Gold and Malawi Gold and Oaxaca Gold etc.

The one knock against the original White Widow was always it's taste. I have not found it to be a high that gets old quickly and I do not build up a tolerance to it any faster than I do any top quality strain. When it comes to potency, unless someone is strictly talking THC percentages, which alone does not make potency, it really is a relative thing, it is something that is subjective and it is where I often times disagree with the people who are into the current Kush fad. If they love a body stone, if they love a couch-lock stone they would see any strain that gives them more of that as being more potent than say a pure sativa that would actually be more potent. It would work the other way around too. To a real true lover of a pure sativa, smoking a Kush would be like smoking some mid grade commercial and downing a low dosage Xanax or Valium with it. It would totally lack what they love and if they judged potency by what they loved they would say the Kush was low octane.

A nice flavor is never a bad thing but I have never found a flavor that got me any higher so while it is nice, flavor is pretty far down on my list of priorities. It is like colors to me. Both are nice but neither actually adds anything to what I want from a strain so they matter little to me. When it comes to strong odor, being; "pungent" and the myth that it equates to more potent, well over the decades I have grown and smokes many very potent strains that had little odor/pungency to them. All you have to do to see how much a strong odor actually equates to quality and potency is to look at one of the most famous indica crosses ever, a multiple Cup winner, Northern Lights, and one of it's claims to fame is low odor.

As breeders found it more and more difficult to actually improve/increase actual potency they switched to offering gimmicks in place of improvements. They pretty much hit a brick wall some time back when it comes to increasing potency so they focused on pretty colors and exotic or powerful aromas and unique flavors and told people the new stuff is the best ever.

But how many years has it been since any strain came out that had an actual significant increase in potency? Herijuana is rated as up to 25% in THC, and not many strains are than high and how many are actually higher, and if claimed to be can those claims be believed. But Herijuana was created over two decades ago in Humboldt County California. If actual potency has been increasing each and every year, or at least as a slow but steady pace as we have been told, an average potency strain should be around 30% and the best should be in the 40% range or even higher. But neither are, are they? About the only real change in potency in a good long while has been the vanishing of some of the earlier crosses were low octane and them being replaced by mid octane strains. The overall average level of potency has increased but the upper end, the very top strains have not really progressed or become much if any more potent regardless of the claims people almost constantly make.

For the most part, for years breeders have been cranking out more of the same old stuff in repackaged forms. Different colors and odors/aromas and different flavors added to what under the skin is basically the same old stuff and marketing them in a way that makes the puppies wag their tails and drool. Roughly one third or more of existing strains could vanish from the face of the planet tonight and no one would actually lose out because there would still be a number of strains left that are basically the same things but just with different names.

Will I be able to smoke what I see in the video? If not the video will not tell me anything or prove anything.

Were you alive and toking in the late 60's? Have you grown since 1972? Have you either grown and smoked or at least smoked just about every single famous strain since the 60's?

If not then there is no use in us discussing anything since you lack an equal frame of reference and can only rely on hearsay that every time I have heard the normal arguments has turned out to be inaccurate.

You fail to understand that your tastes and the tastes of someone like me differ greatly and what you subjectively consider to be potent is not what would be potent to me. I have always loved the ceiling-less mind warping rocket-sled ride of a pure sativa or a cross that is almost all sativa. I hate something that would put me on my; "ass for hours and hours." That's not getting high, that is getting stoned .. and there is a difference.

Just out of curiosity when was it that you; "smoked many of the yesteryear strains?" 1960-what? 1970-what?

As for the old strains of the 60's and the 70's being as you stated it; "there not all that." You seemed to assume that just because the video showed frosty buds that the frost had to be overflowing with THC. High resin production is not, and has never been, a guarantee of high levels of THC. Well what do you think put the octane in weak-ass indicas that created the crosses you love so much? I have done it before so I will not do it again, but I looked through the strain lineage for all the Cup winning indicas, including ones called a Kush, and I posted the strain lineage for most of them and most of them have the very strains you say; "there not all that" in them. What you fail to understand is that sativas are potent, indicas produce more resin but are lower in potency and give a body stone, a couch-lock stone, crosses were made to add the potency of the sativas to the weaker indicas and had that not been done many of the popular indica strains, including a good number that are called a Kush, would be nothing, people like you would not waste your time or money on them and you would not brag about them.

Check out the strain lineage of this Kush:

Reserva Privada - Headband
Strain: Headband
Breeder: Reserva Privada
Location: indoor, outdoor
Type: mostly indica
Flowering: ~63 days
Only female seeds.
Aka: Sour Kush

Cupwinner!

  • 3. Place HTCC 2009

Headband Kush has a great yield, and the high is completely medical and not too over-powering. Finding a keeper mother is easy in a pack of 6 and this plant clones easily as well, rooting in 8-10 days. She grows fast in vegetive stage and spreads out wide to produce many tops and an even canopy. Producing heavy resin early and a great aroma, our Headband has bag and head appeal. She doesn’t grow as tall as Sour Diesel or as stretchy as the OG Kush and is not so picky with the nutrients. She has a fuely-soury taste and smell with a long lasting high. She is a good all day smoke that won’t knock you down like some of the heavy indicas and is a good strain for anxiety. This original cross is not the 707 or any other clone only “Headband,” this cross was made by reversing the OG Kush to pollinate the Sour Diesel.

Type: Mostly indica
Genetics: Sour Diesel x OG Kush

Strain Lineage / Genealogy / Family Tree

Look at all the different sativa genetics in the strain. If those old school sativa genetics were removed from the strain the breeders would not have even bothered to enter it into the HTCC because they would know it wouldn't stand a chance of winning Miss Congeniality let along a 1st, 2nd. or 3rd place Cup.

Check out another Cup winning Kush, Kushdee.

Remove the Lemon Thai and it would be nothing.

I always have to laugh when people like you claim true old school strains of the past to be nothing, or almost nothing, even though they are in fact what put the octane in the strains people like you like.

You mentioned the crippling affects of some strains you like after only 2 or 3 hits. Well I have smoked pure sativas that would have you crying for your mama after 2 or 3 hits.
