Hey Canon, I tried defoliation during my 1st grow on Sassy. I won't do that again because buds utilize the fan leaves during flowering. She put in a lot a work to grow those fan leaves back. That energy could have been put into producing buds

she is responding very well to the topping, go figgure. lol she is getting so really good secondary growth too. the 3rd set of leaves actually have 7 fingers and not five like i previously believed.

Day 17 update. I intended to post these last night, but RUI was having some sort of server issue. # 2 is finally showing signs of vertical growth. I have added extra hygroton to give support to the stem.

Root system has exploded. Should be capable of supporting a good sized plant already and they are growing more every day.

I like to see people going against the accepted ways of growing autos by doing things like topping them and training them. We will all learn something from the experiments going on here. I will post an update in a day or two. I am having some computer problems. I am posting this from my phone, and you can't upload pics from it.

Nice looking plants people. It is confirmed that my entry is a male. I will definitely keep him for breeding as he is twice the size of the other suspected male. When it shows better I will pull the smaller one.

now i wish that when i had ordered my autos that i would have gotten the regular seeds instead of the fems so that i could make my own seeds. sheesh, ya live and ya learn. your boy there sure is purdy.

Yeah I started out with breeding in mind from the beginning. I started a couple of the seeds I produced around thanksgiving. I have about 60 left after giving a few to a couple of people. I don't think I should have to buy the blue himilaya genes again.

All the grow comps(?) I've seen are centered around bud production. I feel producing better seeds through breeding is just as if not more important to non-commercial hobbiest like us. Thus the reason this is open to males, hermies and females. The problem was finding a way to make these all equally competative without "bud" being a major influence.
"Artistic" (one way or the other) was what came to mind. So here we are.
Those "balls" could be your ace in the hole. You've something to make something out of that the females don't.
Hope you do something interesting with them.

Woo-hoo! We have a girl. Still undecided on a name. She has one sister and 4 brothers, with 2 still left to show. The males have been segregated to another box. I will be watching the males over the next few days and selecting the best two for use as pollen donors. The other two will be the first "fatalities" in this combat.
Also, I have begun to unleash my secret weapon. Your gonna have to wait until the next pic update for more on that subject.

i am surprised that she is responding to the topping like she is. still looks real healthy too. if i put my face right up to her you can smell her yummyness. lol
i gave her a name (hope i don't offend any one.) her name is stripper barbie since she went toppless. lol and the other one that i have already started doing LST to names is bondage barbie. not sure when i am going to be able to LST my entry stripper barbie because she is so short and stocky.

Looking nice Stoner. Just a heads up for LST, you should also use an anchor tie at the base so she doesn't uproot from the soil as you tighten up.
I just counted back and I am due for an update. I will post up tonight or tomorrow night. My girl is already starting to bud and looks to be 1 single cola so no LST for me.

Just so everyone knows.
Pasting a update more often is DEFINATELY welcomed.
But within 2 weeks of last posted update is minimum. Over that is disqualification as competitor and moved in to a "exhibition" catagory. You can keep growing, enjoying, and swap yarns. But out of the vote.
Somehow,, I don't see a prob. LOL

Argh... Things arnt really going well for me!, looks like another mixed up seed, more than sure mine isnt a AK47, Its has small leafs which dont have the fingers that pair up and two sets of 5 fingers gutted, maybe a little early to stress but....

Do you have any idea how hard it is for me to keep still (more or less) on this? I've already seen enough where I really want to ask some questions and make some comments (positive of course). Someone here is doing something that I really really want to hear more of. But to maintain a neutral posture,,, I'm not going to.
I'll only make a blanket comment that includes everyone. I'm impressed! Impressed with a lot of things in this round.
Was really on the fence as to if I really wanted to do this. ALL of you have made me glad I did.
Nice plants,,, and nice folks. Already I'm glad I don't need to be the only judge in the end.

On 2-1-2011 the second willbe revield. No it's not something that is off the wall or going to mess with your intentions in any way.
