I grow in soil..I was wandering if I really have to flush? I do use nutes..so I always do..but do I really need to?I don't wanna risk root rot..if I don't wat will the result be?
hydro yes very important.. but soil, dirt no. soil and dirt acts as a natreral buffer..

I just slow down nutes in the last two weeks and give it nothing but water the last week. Ive never over watered or used any solutions too flush and Ive never tasted my nutes. Ive grown plants with zero nutes (other than whats in the organic soil) and it always tasted the same as the plants I used nutes on.

I don't like flushing at the end I think it takes away from the final product, but it may be necessary if you're doing hydro and using gnarly non-organic chems to feed your plant.

I flush. The plant that is being harvested in a matter of days...has had a 3 week flush. (10 week strain)

Everything that is high grade...be it beer, wine, pot or a good bar b q...has steps that need to be taken if one
wants "better than dogshit" results. Now if you are happy with "As Good As Dogshit" then do not follow the steps
of the people that have come before you. Find a single breeder that has won anything anywhere that does not flush.

Why would flushing cause root rot? You only flush for the last 2 or 3 weeks tops. It's not everyday that you flush in that
time period. It's actually a bit less frequent that you would normally water your plant. The excess water flows out the bottom...
just like it would if you watered regularly.

I like to keep it simple. If you have managed to keep your plant relatively healthy up until 2 or 3 weeks from completion...understand
that there is almost nothing you could do besides setting the damn thing on fire...to fuck it up. It's dying already. You just are there to watch.
lol hes right, and someone said it can cause "bud rot" lol, maybe root rot but not BUD rot unless the flushing was terrential showers (if ur growing outdoor of course)

sweet!so should I stop using nutes 2 weeks before?or can I use them til harvest?thanks for the good info!
Why would you want to quit feeding the plant? The last two weeks of it's life are extremely important to us. The plant is producing resin at it's peak ability, trichomes are secreting like mad, we want the plant to have the energy to continue to break down sugars and such, and the last thing you want to do at this stage is starve your plant.

There are way too many rumors and myths floating abut on this web site.... I wonder how many on here don't even grow?

Use bloom nutes through harvest. You can time it so last watering is plain water, then 3-4 days to chop. The last time you should give nutrients is about 10 days from chop, then plain water about 4 days out, then chop when dry.

I agree!!Ithats why I'm tryin to find out from ppl who really know how to grow!I read a lot on this site that u should stop nutes at that time..so I did...and my stuff was less then it should have been in tri production..yeild..and potency!in my heart I felt I should be feeding them til harvest..that's why I made this thread..to find out truth.......not myth!too many myths out there!!I'm glad ppl like u share the real knowledge...and I thank you for the good advise!!

I used fox farm nutes and molasses for my flowering and only stopped nutes the last watering and went just water and molasses. Would that be enough to get out any bad stuff the fox farm nutes left? There was about 25% run off after last water.

Keep in mind here that many soil growers don't use a lot of liquid nutrients at all during their grow. Some don't use any at all. Many soil organics growers pack their soils with most of what their plants are going to need during the growth period (supersoils, anyone?). Many top dress periodically (every few weeks or so), and/or brew organic teas for one or more reasons.

So, when you are growing organically in soil you really aren't 'starving' the plant by giving it water (with minimal liquid fertilizers/supplements) for a couple weeks or more. That is pretty much what a lot of organics growers are doing throughout much of their grow anyways. We are feeding the soil, really. You can feed the soil, and the soil will sustain the plant for some time.

Humus and other soil particles hold onto nutrient ions (which originate from decomposition of organic matter). They are also trapped up (immobilized) in the cells of microbes and the bodies of other organisms until they are released (mineralized) when the organism dies or is consumed. The plants are exuding substances such as carbohydrates in order to attract these microbes into the rhizosphere (where nutrients are absorbed), and the microbial activity will result in the production of plant available nutrients.

With sufficient organic matter and healthy microbial populations (two of the things that teas provide) you should easily be able to water for two weeks without starving anything.

People who grow outdoors in Cali don't flush and their stuff is supposed to be top notch. If you grew 100% organic I see no reason to flush, you can use less nutes the last week or 2 but you shouldn't stop completely because your yield will suffer and your plants will start failing early.

If they don't get certain nutes they will lock up and wouldn't be able to flush anyway. Grow organic, dry and cure properly, and you will be fine.

Have you ever tried nutes/water/nutes/water? Have you ever tried 'making it rain' (basically flushing in between every feed)? What nutes and soil do you use?
the only time i use plain water is if and when the runout is off.. witch is harly ever..

The only thing I can add is, I had my friends smoke some properly cured Lemon Skunk that was not flushed at all. I fed up until a couple days before harvest and used the Fox Farms line up. They told me it was the best smoke they have had in a while. It smelled delicious and tasted even better. I mean maybe there is a slight difference between flushing and not flushing but I know that none of my friends or I have been able to tell what that difference is.

And yes, I have done both. Flushed and not flushed.

PROPER CURE DOES WONDERS ON ANY SMOKE!

When the sun goes down at night, the plant releases it's sugars and starches and allows gravity to pull those back down to the roots, where they roots will utilize them during the night. If you chop your bud before the 'sun' comes up, you avoid having to cure out those sugars and starches and the harshness they bring to our smoke. This is something I just read in a 2008 High Times Harvest guide. Thoughts?
