this is a replica, but yeah; acrylic city... bummer. and this was the height of smoking back in the day, Apogee.
Holy shit I'd hit that. Nice.

I'm 22. But I have heard of lids. My uncle was old school. I think he still used to sell "lids" to like 2 or 3 of his oldest friends. He grew it like mad and was generous. A lid weighed like 18 grams I think on his for what? I think 100. Good days. He's passed now but I think we should bring back lids.

Also the bong hit competition...epic. Seattle actually has a Bong Hit league for medical patients lol. It's legit too. I was fucking wrecked. Cause they supply the smoke...and its top chop shit.

absolutely that is how it was done.
alot of us hippies rolled our own cigs like cans of prince albert or buldrum and they had a lid on them and we didnt have scales so we use the lid to messure with.........standard lids were 3 fingers about 20 grams..........when you got a 4 finger lid that was a oz so 4 finger lid was getting a bargin for the 3 finger price..........most thought below an ounce not concidered dealing felony but a misdermenor...................thats the way we did it and thats in Southern Cal in San Diego and La......same in Frisco when i was up at Haight Ashbury
you could hold a baggie up and place 3 or 4 fingers on it and that was cool.......3 being 20 grams and 4 being 28 grams. we didnt use scales back then so you could get a little short or little over but hell at 8 buck a 4 finger lid what the hell.

Back in the day a "lid" was $10, good Columbian was $25 and there was no "sinsemilla" to speak of as everything was outdoor mexican sativa.

A good lid was 4 fingers and considered an OZ.

We used thes to weigh.
Holy shit that brinngs back memories. I forgot about those little hanging scales. The prices you mention, and the sinse is exactly as I remember it. I do remember those balance beam scales, but I had a Dial-O-Gram:

dial-o-gram.jpg

It was cool..you just dialed to the grams you want, then put product on till it balanced.

It was and it was a few decades ago.

We would collect a bale and take it to a house in St. Pete. Break it up in the front room (the place was all tile) weigh it, bag it and then it was gone. There would always be a oz or more left on the floor. Incredible. 2 to 3 hours from pick up to it being gone.

I'll never see the likes of that again.

Sounds....delicious...........

My older brother still has one much like the taller, orangeish colored one in the photo that I think was bought about 1978 and still sees daily use. It has been cleaned, repaired with epoxy etc. many, many times. I think he as even had to replace the bowl a few times due to it getting too hot a few times or lost. It would be difficult to estimate the exact number of hits taken through that old bong but he did some rough math and came up with between 300,000 and 400,000. This comes from daily use and the occasional party were things get more than a little blurry. I also remember the first sensimilla that I encountered. For years we had bought what we thought was Columbian. Nicknamed "cebo", at the time this highly prized weed more than likely spent a fair amount of time compressed and stuffed up a mexican donkey's ass but we loved the stuff even with all the obligatory 15% or better seeds it contained.

Ohhh the Dial-a-Gram was the Rolls Royce of it's time, only coke dealers had them.

four fingers across the baggie was considered an ounce....which was concidered a lid, so I always thought of a lid as 1 ounce...maybe I'm wrong idk...lol

More of us old-timers on here than I realized. I remember dimes, four-finger bags, qp's. ca. 1976. Making me nostaligic! Concerts, and acid, and shrooms, and ludes... lol. I think I hitchhiked all over the state of Colorado! Different times.
What I remember most was the awesome Paonia bud we grew on the Western-slope, in Paonia of course. Someone referenced limey piney, I think that may have been PB. What modern strain can equal that stuff in flavor and effect. Would love some suggestions.

Not familiar with Paonia but pretty certain I have some seeds of the "limey-piney" stored away in my fridge for the past 5 years or so. As I recall, this strain wasn't especially resinous by today's standards but the flavor was top shelf without a hint of skunkiness. Probably wouldn't run away with any cannabis cups' in the potency department either but such a joy to smoke or just smell in the bag. I grew this strain exclusively for many years with several back crosses so at this point it might qualify as a landrace strain. I'm pretty diligent in how I store my beans and have no idea how many might germinate but it only takes a few girls and boys to reintroduce the strain. I may have to dig around and try to get a few rolling again.

Paradise Park was the in spot to buy drugs in Vegas in 1970. People would come from the east coast and had heard about it. Three reds were a dollar and a quart of bub was about 75 cents. That was my favorite high untill the devil invented qualudes. You could buy hash, hash with opium, hash oil, reds, crosstops, etc, and lots of mexican dirtweed.

Elbows were $110 and kilos (That was a foreign language) were 220. Like someone mentioned you broke it up on a table and eyeballed 16 four finger lids if you were lucky. But depending on the quality you might have to throw away some stems and seeds but most of it went into the baggies.

Put the lids in a large brown bag from the grocery store, head to Paradise Park on friday afternoon and an hour later you were leaving with 25 or 30 bucks profit and a lid or two. We liked big corncob pipes, You could stuff a finger of weed in them easily and puff away constantly. I have three or four people get out of the car, open the trunk and each carry a big bag or two, filled with four finger lids, walk up to picnic table, get mobbed and sell out in 30 minutes, well over 200 lids.

Cops usually just made you pour out your beer and pot and let you go, lots of times they just took your drugs and told you to get lost. Ah, the good ol days before meth 100 plus dollar lids.

Yeah, Paonia wasn't known for much... great cherry orchards, the Jazz festival, and Paonia Bud, that was about it! Fabulous "hippie-type" commune vibe, still is to a large extent. I suppose I could be romanticizing how potent it was, but, that smell, very hard to forget. Like an old boyfriend's cologne (I'm a "girl", as it were). If you are able to revive the strain, I'll be first in line as I've really been wanting that taste! Like smoking a pine tree!

Hey SP..I was in Long Binh in '70-71. The locals who worked on base would bring in these packs of joints called Gold Leaf. They were just like cigarettes, 20 to a pack. If memory serves, they may have even had filters on 'em. They definitely had a little gold leaf logo on them. Did they have those when you were there?

Ever been to Long Binh?
