Having to deal with law enforcement real soon

Last weekend, my roommate threw a party that got out of control and the cops came to break it up. I was at work, my other roommate was off somewhere. For whatever reason, my roommate left to pick someone up, so when leo showed up there was no one on the lease there. Everyone left, no one stopped them, and they got free reign of the apartment. So they did what they call a property check.

What they found: Back closet lined with foil and a fully functional HPS hanging in there. More than a little suspicious. There was nothing under it, nothing growing.

What's going on now: Our property manager contacted us today to inform us the police are going to come back to "go through" the apartment at some point soon, probably within the next day or so. I took down the light and foil and cleaned out everything. As far as I know, all they have is suspicion. The way I view it, I have two options form here. Play dumb, or rehang the light and put something under it to give a legit reason to have it

What advice can you guys give? This is all in the states btw.

There is NOTHING illegal in the apartment. I just need to know if I leave the light up or pretend nothing happened.

Most of you guys have had helpful or funny responses. Some of you though need to work on your reading comprehension. The party was not mine. I was at work. Apparently my roommate's definition of a few people is way too goddamn many. So those of you who are saying I fucked up, the only thing I didn't do was not locking my door to an empty room. Stupid, but nowhere near the Special Olympics level of retardation my roommate reached.

I am in a family of lawyers, and My advice to you would be to do whatever you feel is right. Yes, they have nothing against you... for all they know you used to have a reptile that needed mimicked sunlight.... They are not allowed to charge you with anything, especially if they did not see plants and such. If you take them down, they are going to find them possibly in the house somewhere anyways, So maybe just leave them there, and say something like the reptile excuse or something better. You like tomatoes in the winter. anything. They can do nothing. Tell them that if they start to get fishy.

Hell yeah!!! Re-hang the light, and put some fruiting or flowering plant under it. Make sure you repair any damage to the closet, and tape up your foil really pretty like. A nice Rose bush or something. Say you use it to make clones for your mother and grandmother. They love Roses but can't get the clones to start outdoors, etc etc.

Have nothing illegal in your house. Get a copy of the police report.

Take every thing out. what if they are just getting a full house search warrant? I dont think they have enough evidence to be granted a warrant...but still be on the safe side.

fuck it, ditch the light and the foil, and NOT in your complex dumpster, get it as far away from YOU as ya can, weather or not they saw it... if its not there, they cant say shit about it.

Ughhhh, thats a tough one. Either way they are gonna have an eye on you but if you say you have the apartment clean then with they dont have enough dirt on you to go any further. I would take the light down and then you dont have to answer any questions they ask. So they have no solid proof of illegal activity and that means your safe. Just lay low for a nice while, because the cops will prolly be watching your apartment and be carefull of whats in your apartment because you never know if they will have another property check just to catch to off gaurd and unexspected.

and ps. The light and the foil are enough for them to obtain a FULL search warrant. Cops arent stupid people, if you keep it up and put something else under it, theyre not gonna just say " Hey guess this kid was growing rose bushes all along "... sorry but cops arent that stupid. No, theyre gonna say " Hey there was nothing under there a week ago, and now theres a fully flowering rose bush " and then theyre gonna get suspicious. A suspicious cop is a VERY BAD THING. Im also from a family of lawyers and trust me man, leaving that shit ANYWHERE near your property will get you fuckd!

Be safe!!!! Put that light in a box and store it at a friends house. If the cops saw the lamp hanging there when they were there play dumb when they return. Remember "outa sight outa mind" "what lamp?" "Grow things inside? How do ya do that copper?" Let em search they don't have anything.

If you can, then take them somewhere else and hide them for awhile. But if that isn't an option, it still isn't a very big deal. Having foil and an HPS light is not illegal so they can't do shit to you. Just be glad that you didn't have any weed growing when they came by. You might want to get rid of any weed that you have though, it could be enough for them to get a search warrant so if you got seeds or weed, destroy them! Also if I were you, I'd wait a few months before I start growing ganja again just to be safe.

take down all your equipment, leave it in the same cupboard they found it in, but make sure it isnt set up. when they come bak and ask why the lights are there and they arnt set up anymore you simply tell them 'It intially was to grow marijuana BUT, after the recent events you see that its not worth the risk and that you are trying to sell the equipmrnt now.' - you cant be arrested for 'conspiracy to cultivate', they will see it as they have doen there job in throwing you off the subject and that you have seen 'sense'. another thing is they know that you wont want to waste the money u spent on the equipment so telling them you want to sell it will seem legit and again, isnt illegal.

the reason i would say this is the best thing to do is, there gonna watch you no matter what from now on and there gonna know what the lights are for no questions asked. at least this way there going to hopefully think that your being real to them and that you are not going to try to do it again.

just buy some cheap orchids or roses and stick them in there put the foil and light back up and make sure you have no weed in the place
sure there not stupid and will know whats really going on, but theres nothing thay can do about it as long as they dont find any weed or seed

Yeah, its really your choice, you still have to answer questions either way you do it. If it's gone they will know somethings up. Why would you remove them if you were ACTUALLY using them for no illegal purposes? They might take a look at your electric bill though....I say maybe just put them away, and buy seeds for vegetables like carrots and tomatoes and things of that nature.
