400w or 600w

Okay, I'm thinking about grabbing either a 400watt hps/mh or a 600watt hps/mh

So I'm thinking you could post how much more yield I have than the 600w, how many more plants would I have with the 600, how much bigger box would I need for the 400w and 600w.(I might have something on hand or I might just have to buy something) I'm trying to justify the cost of a 600w. But I live in NZ so shipping costs about $80USD to get those here.

i use a 600 digi in a 4ftx31/2ftx 5ft hi cab, had a 400 and a 250, if you go with a 400 you will only want to go bigger in 6 months or so. they run cooler and brighter, these are my plants done under a 600 lumatek 12-12 from seed.

ive got a diamond reflector on mine and top of plants arent more than 12 inches below light, how much space you got?

This really has to be a stealth grow, so I kinda need it to fit into the space that I've got... I COULD always grab something though, but then the'd be sus about the extra closet that I don't seem to use very often.. xD I'm thinking vert growing could be a very possible option...

Oh, and I'm really high.. I can't figure out ebay... Farrr too confusing -.-

on ebay if u shop around u can get an awsome 600w full light kit for 200-300$. i found a 600w for 260$ and its brand new never used air cooll with a masive hood. but then i found the same model thats 1000w for 280$. of course i as well had to pay for shipping so the total was a lil more than that. but then u have to consider how many plants u want. id say shop around. the same unit i payed 300$ for is at a LEAST 600$ at any grow shops here in MI.

Sweet, I'll try and find some stores in NZ that sell this stuff... I'm wondering what will happen if I go in and ask for a 600w Digital Ballast, 600w HPS bulb and a 600w MH bulb isn't that just a bit suspect?

Okay, they are just inside my max max budget for lights, I wonder how much everything else will cost...
*Just realized how stupid I am. I'm now thinking of doing a LST or SCROG grow..
If an LST grow I'd throw some sort of netting/wire behind it to allow me to tie it up..
A normal grow just isn't possible with a box this small, right?

Buy a 400w and change bulb to 600w see which you like.
400w ballast is 600w capable on 9/10 the same ballast.
In UK any way.
probably cheaper to just buy the 600w only 10 quid difference.
Doing the 1st meth will let you try the both lights and have a spare bulb.

you cant use a 400 or a 600 in this.
as del said, get some nice CFLs.

Okay, so if I went CFLs what kinda yield's would I get, how many bulbs would I need to cover a "normal" sized plant?
(I'd probably be growing it along the sides(by tying them to a net/guide wire - to guide its growth), I'm not really sure if this way of growing is viable)

Also, what spectrum should I be looking for 2700k annd? 4000k-6000k? ish?

Wow, that stinks.. Is that even with air cooling the bulb and everything?
I was thinking of doing it like this and not like the traditional grow..


God an 5gallon pot is 11" high! Couldn't I get a smaller pot? or get a shorter/longer one?

in my opinion any less than 4ft needs cfls im afraid or your pot and plant will have to be so short it wont be worth growing

I must be completely underestimating these bulbs...
How much heat(in degrees) do they produce and how close can you put your plants/hand to it?
Is it too much light?

i think they go 230 plus degrees c, you need a ft for pot at least a foot for plant, 6-7 inches for light fitting and a gap between light and plant, belive me 2ft total height doesnt cut it
