The Official House and Garden Thread

Hello fellow growers!! I'm a recent addition to this sites forum and in the little time I've joined I've accrued a wealth of information, so with that I would like to first thank anyone and everyone for throwing their two cents in the hopes of making a whole dollar..:) now that we have pleasantries out of the way I was wondering if I could get some input from fellow growers who've been using the House and Garden Line of Nutes, specifically the coco line. I'm currently using FlorNova in conjunction with hydrozyme, kool bloom and a little notrozyme for those first 3-4 weeks of flower, a basic system thats water to waste with three 1000w HPS lights w/ 1000w lumatek ballasts. Now after growing for a few harvests and getting a good eye for detail I have seen that my system and methodology could use a step up.

In my new grow which when I move here within the coming months I plan to continue and start a journal. With my move and a chance to start over I plan to switch nutes systems and take it in a different direction. Firstly with a jupiter 2 linear light mover I will optimize my grow area, light distribution/penetration, and ultimately will be able to do more than three well sized plants per grow.
Next after looking around these forums I've decided that Coco seems to be a worthwhile endeavor and with some of these results I'm seeing I can't wait to get going already!!! This choice in Nutes has lead me here, upon looking at canna and H&G I see that at least with H&G I get more for my money. So now with some questions. I plan on using the tap from my next home keeping in mind it's relative to the quality of my water now and I was wondering if Tap water affected the system being I've read that it's more suited to be used w/RO.
Going into my approach I was wondering if anyone could offer some insight into balance for my approach which is as follows..
Royal Gold Coco with perlite mix about 60-40
H&G coco A/B
Foliar Bloom Inducer Week 1-2
Bud XL week 3-8
Bud Blood Week 3-4
coco wetting agent
Top Shooter week 5 for 4 days
Shooting Powder last two weeks in conjunction with a sunpulse 10k UVB bulb
Magic green when needed
Hydrozyme every other week except last two weeks
Not sure when to use multiZen any input??

Also was thinking about replacing bud blood with hydroplex any thoughts/experience?? Also do you guys feel Im missing anything in that lineup?? comments and suggestions appreciated!
Besides that I will be growing L.A confidential from DNA, Somango, and sensi star x Critical....can't wait till the day I find some pre 98 bubba!!

Why dont you just use the whole House and garden line up then you wont have to mix other brands in....

well while I could do that as I mentioned before I had done a little reading from various posts/posters with some saying this and that. For instance I had head there were problems with shooting powder and ppl were opting for mother of all blooms has anyone noticed a difference using MOAB instead? as well as swtiching out other nutes in the program?

I use everything the way I am supposed to and blow it every time. Buds are huge and super fragrant! Shooting powder is amazing and I would not use anything else. Same with roots excelurator. I don't add in anything else because you don't need to. IMO

I personally have had issues with MOAB, but it was because it was my first grow.

Here is my advise, use the entire H&G line up, and do not mix and match too much, simple additives like Liquid Karma, Cal/Mag Plus, and a form of carbohydrate are things that are adding to it, not replacing it, so those are fine, but do not remove one component for another manufacturer's. Follow the feeding calender H&G provides to the last detail, besides the exact dosage of base A&B, which should be diluted, and a longer flush, unless you used Drip Clean all the way through.

Coco and perlite is a great mix, I use Sunshine Mix #4 Advanced, it is already mixed for me and inoculated with mycorrhizae. It also had peat added, but there is nothing wrong with that.

Do not use tap water. The H&G line up has a lot of beneficial life in it, and your tap water can kill it with all the chlorine that is in there. If you buy a soiless mix with mycorrhizae, the tap water will also kill that. Use r/o or purchase distilled. You will have to add a ca/mg supplement to the H&G line up, at least during flower.

Use nitrozyme as a foliar spray on vegging plants. Flora Nova is great, and I used it for quite a while, but H&G blows it out of the water in every aspect besides price, you are going to love it! I will never go back to flora nova unless I am broke and have to restart.

Be careful with Hydroplex, it doesn't play well with all other fertilizers. Just save the money and purchase the entire line up, don't skip anything.

3 plants? That's all? How big is your hood? How big do your plants get? Try 6 to 8 plants, 3' to 4' tall.

Haha, if anyone ever complained about shooting powder, I would tell them to shut up. Also, nitrozyme works best as a foliar spray during the last week of veg and the first week of bloom. Thanks for the rep!

Have not seen the new bottles yet but kinda wondering is there a expiration on the nutes? I been letting mine sit for awhile now, i didn't see anything on the labels or there website about it.

Does anyone know the proper order to whip up a batch of foliar feed Magic Green?

If using Distilled/RO water, does it go: RO Water > Cal Mag Plus to 250ppm > PH > Magic Green > PH ??

Also, I heard that Drip Clean is supposed to be part of the solution, is this true? Or does Magic Green already have a surfacent in it? ...Drip Clean is a surfacent, right?? lol :joint:

I am pretty sure DC stays out of your spray. I have never read that in any instructions written by H&G. Whenever making a foliar spray you want your total PPM's to be 250. That's it, no more. pH 5.7-5.9

Never heard of dripclean used as a foliar spray? What would be the advantages of doing so? I certainly can't think of any.

Hello to all! I,ve read every post in this thread and many others and have recently switched from AN to H&G and I'm really happy with the results so far. I've been growing on and off for over 30 yrs. Mostly using the tried and true stick a seed in dirt and wait method. The last 2 yrs I've been using ebb and flow. I found Fox Farms nutes to be great in soil and hydro veg. Then I tried AN for flowering and had a lot of problems. I find it difficult to figure out nutrient problems and I had many. The appeal with H&G is the detailed but simple to follow schedule especially if you use the online calculator. My 4wks of flower G13 were sick, as in not good, and have really improved a lot in just 2 wks of H&G. The first week I did not use Shooting Powder because I thought it might be a bit much for sick plant but last week they got the exact amount of nutes called for wk6 and are really thriving. Quite amazing nug growth!
Rollitup is a great site and many of you have been a tremendous help, so thanks!

Nothing warms my heart more than a story like this. Especially because I'm the original AN hater!! H&G easily trumps AN and their drifting pH problems!

AN SUCKS! Yes, H&G is the bomb! 3 weeks out from another perfect harvest because of this magnificent stuff!

Why is it that when I use the online nute calculator I get wildly different amounts when switching res water from litres to gallons? As in wk 1 of a 4wk veg cycle for 8 gallons A&B are both 44ml but when I enter 30 litres, close to the same amount, it says to add 627 mls each of A and B. What am I missing here?

3.74 litres to a gallon. Make sense now?
No, it does not. Read what I wrote Smartie Pants! 8 gallons and 30 litres are close to the same amount so why, when using the online calculator, does it say to use many times the amount of nutes when measuring by litre. Comprende now?

I can imagine it varies for a variety of different reasons. The online calculator could be directed towards different crops than the application on the bottle. Your best bet is to always go half strength and watch the PPM's as you add different components so you understand how much food each product provides. Another reason it could vary could be that the directions on the bottle could be out of date.

Either way, I know full strength on the online calculator will almost always push you into 2000ppm+

But 627 ML does sounds fucking outrageous. You might want to shoot an email to their friendly customer service.
