I think that cooler fan/a.c. might be effective in a small space
A cooler filled with ice will stay cool and frozen for quite a while.
Some of these newer cooler models can hold ice while in the sunlight for days now.

I purchased a Coleman 150 quart marine cooler. Hoping to get it shipped this week. What do you use to hold down the airstones? suction cups and tie them down to it? Size that works well?

For the airlines, do you drill a bit off the side near the lid or directly into the lid and feed the lines in?

thanks!

I use those to hold the air lines down as well as the stones, just need zip ties. I only tighten then down so the squeeze the line a little but still slides if you pull on it.

those are what i use
i have also tried these
micro diffusers.jpg
i like them if its all i run in one cooler but if you mix and match they suck. and the price is way HIGH

I drill my air line in the lid, but that just preference more then anything you should put them were you feel they wont inter-fear with roots or you when you work on them.

and how many plants you going to run in thats thats one big cooler..? I just bought two 100Q for flower today and thought they were going to be to big.( got them for $58 a piece)

Thanks for the reply, the images won't open but I think I know what you are saying.

I actually only plan on running my DWC for vegging and toss them in my ebb and grow style buckets for flowering. Although its a 150qt marine cooler the inside dims are only 35x13x13 ish. $80 from walmart. If I veg in 5" net pots I am looking at 10 sites per cooler. Although 5" might seem big for just veg I would like the extra space to supercrop and LST the plants until they go into the flowering stage.

What you think?

it sounds like your going to do what i am working towards. great plan i think it will work out just fine. get some pics up when your done so we can check it out after i go grab another 70 qt and foil backed inso ill try and get mine up.

this is my plan to have three coolers in veg one with 12 3.5" sites for started clones
2nd cooler 8 sites 3.5" sites for start of lst
3rd cooler 6 6" sites for further lst and flower prep.(ONLY 4 WITH MOVE TO FLOWER)

ok you 2 got my curiosity, why not keep in dwc the whole grow ?
For me I like to be able to move my plants around. I am sure you can do that in a large cooler DWC. Just not as easy to move around a large cooler with a fixed amount of plants in it. Its space vs plants for me. I like the Ebb and grow a lot for flowering. I can move buckets around and place some plants in different spots easily. Not saying you can't do that with DWC. Its just a personal preference. Same reason why I am not that fond of having a 4x4 tray sitting in a room at all times filled with plants.

I hope this makes sense.

I like what I'm hearing and will be seeing ! lol
I need to cop a 1.75 hole saw for my new little cloner cooler.
Haven't decided if it's gonna be an 8 or 12 site yet.

I dig this thread and different ways to grow and have respect for the coolers. The results speak for themselves.

For me, I've gone to using beneficial bacteria and so no longer worry about water temps. Swings into the upper 80's have been fine. For anybody looking to save $ I'd invest what you would have spent on a cooler and sterilizers on ingredients for EWC tea. You can skimp on light proofing also. The bacteria bring other killer benefits too. Just wanted to throw this in because it's been so good for me.

Whichever way you go, good growing. Peace.
