Pro-gay rights and sounds more Democrat than Republican.

This is an interesting contender.. Thanks!

We all know what happens to campaign promises but still it's nice to hope when we kiss a frog we get a prince.
He sounds like neither a Democrat OR a Republican. He's a classical liberal in the Jeffersonian sense. He's for a limited central government and for abiding by the Constitution.

That's true. Except his stance on legalization is going to be a huge detriment to his campaign.
I don't think so. I think people care very much about the economy and his view on economics will play very well with conservatives. I think more people care about that then legalization. Polling data suggests that pro/anti legalization is about 50/50 but I am unaware of a poll that asks that 50% of no voters how important they think keeping cannabis illegal is to them. It could be only a small percentage would vote against a pro-legalization candidate if they shared other values with him.

Only Ron Paul shares fiscal values with the tea party at a higher rate, but his policies are much more palatable to the mainstream than Paul. With the weak field of republican candidates, he could be a serious contender if he can raise enough money.

He's a classic libertarian both fiscally and socially. Outside of the south, I think that will play very well. What makes him different than others is that most fiscal libertarians and social conservatives too. Not many serious politicians are fiscally conservative and socially liberal. I think a lot of people want someone like that.

I'm sure if he explains in a reasonable, easy to understand way, the American people will agree that it's time to end the madness. He can't just say, "I want to make pot legal". He has to be rational and take a "common sense" approach, pointing out not only the monetary costs but the costs in destroying lives and perpetuating the violence. He should refer to the prohibition of alcohol era and how that spawned so much crime.
As I've said before, I love Ron Paul but he is not the best communicator, I think Gary Johnson might just be the guy who can do it.

LOL, borderline bigotry, I think... do you live in the south?
lol? It's borderline bigotry to take a look at historical voting records and conclude the south votes for social conservatives? Interesting. You sure you know what the word bigotry means? I'll give you a hint, it doesn't mean to come up with conclusions about people based on their behavior.

And no, don't live in the south. NorCal.

What? Please interpret.
I thought that was pretty clear, but ok. Most successful politicians that believe in small government, free market economics, etc also are anti-abortion, anti-gay marriage, anti-legalization, etc. Understand?

oh, just on where they live

I thought that was pretty clear
Maybe you THOUGHT it was clear, but if you go back and read that sentence, "What makes him different than others is that most fiscal libertarians and social conservatives too. it is quite obviously NOT clear. Perhaps you should proofread your statements before you post.

Uhhh, no. It's not bigotry to say social conservatives are more popular in the south. It's a fact. I'm not saying every single person in the south is a social conservative. I'm saying social conservatives are more popular there. How is that wrong?

Did you know that liberal candidates are more popular than conservative candidates in San Francisco? Oh shit, I did it again. I'm such a bigot.

Ok, I made a typo. I put the word "and" instead of "are". I pretty sure most people could figure that one out.

further proof that liberals are actually the biggest bigots of all, oppressing the minorities by giving them handouts instead of handups. just a typical harvey milk, nancy pelosi, san francisco celebrity liberal. you are probably munching on some arugula right now (the arugula is of course fair trade, produced organically in a green facility).

so uppity.

(please read the above with dripping amounts of sarcasm).

I get that from Mathematicians all the time.

Sucks to have the right idea then it is rejected just long enough for someone else to take the idea and claim it for their own paper.
What a sham that even the educated play.

Me too. I was talking about how much I liked some of Gary Johnson's ideas and how I thought he had a legit chance of contending, and all of a sudden I'm a bigot for..... Well I don't know why.
