Suppose you made your Girlfriend or Boyfriend so mad that they toss a bucket of acid into your face blinding you in an instance in both eyes.

Would you be cool with a punishment of blinding them with acid?

That is what is on tap in Iran.

Human Rights Group Calls for Iran to Cancel Sentence by Blinding Man With Acid

A human rights group has called on Iran to cancel the sentence of blinding a man who was convicted of throwing acid in a woman's face, the Daily Telegraph reports.
A court sentenced Majid Mohavedi to have acid dripped into his eyes in retribution for pouring acid in Ameneh Bahrami's face in 2004 after she spurned his offers of marriage. She was left blinded from the attack.
Amnesty International is calling for a halt to the sentence, sayings its too harsh.
"Regardless of how horrific the crime suffered by Ameneh Bahrami, being blinded with acid is a cruel and inhuman punishment amounting to torture," an Amnesty International spokesman told the Daily Telegraph.
Iran has postponed Saturday's blinding sentence of Mohavedi, Reuters reports.
"The punishment of Majid was scheduled to be carried out on Saturday at a hospital but it has been postponed," Iranian news agency Fars quoted an unnamed official, according to Reuters.
Bahrami wants the sentence to be carried out.
"The verdict is completely legal and I would like to carry it out," she told the Telegraph.
She has gone several operations since the attack which left her severely disfigured.
Under Iran's Islamic law, retribution is permitted in cases of bodily harm.

I travelled all over the middle east, its very rare to see that from most iranians....they are a great and kind people in general. But the further out you get into the tribal 'hillbilly' reigions the more backwards people are. Sadly this kind of thing is nothing, when I was in Sudan the practice of female genital mutilation was responsible for 1 in 3 deaths in preteen females, in some spots.

It sounds like an anger management issue.. She said no to marriage and dude proved why he would be a bad husband in a big way.

So I agree with you it's not hatred of race or culture but an instance of Womans rights.

If that was you would you agree with blinding your attacker?

To tell you the truth I like this. If it was me who was blinded I would be fine with blinding my attacker.

But how do other readers feel? How about you? If it was you which would you choose?

Cruel and unusual punishment imo. Two wrongs dont make a right, etc...

TBH, I'd exact revenge in some form or another but for legal channels to do so is dangerous to society IMO. I mean, for society to say that cruel and unusual punishment is okay "because he deserves it damnit!" seems dangerous... You'd be setting precedent that can come back to bite you in the ass later. It's for this reason that U.S. waterboarding and shit is a bad idea even if it produces results, because all you've done is set an international precedence that says it's okay(which is what the geneva convention was meant to prevent) - you might not mind hearing about a Pakistani al qaida operative getting waterboarded now but what if in 20 years it's an American getting waterboarded by Russians or something?

That standard is hard to define.

We shot an unarmed Osama.

How do you see the Osama vs Acid eyes?

No comparison at all. One was an evil bastard who killed 3000 of our countrymen and thousands of others in the Middle East. Osama deserved exactly what he got, not to mention the message sent to other would be Osamas. The message: Mass murder Americans, and no matter how long it takes to hunt you down, even ten years if necessary, we will exact revenge. As for "acid eyes," life in prison at hard labor would be appropriate.

To me Osama was an enemy combantant in war, the acid eye thing is a crime/domestic issue. Apples, oranges.

Good responses all.

There is a difference between us and those in the Middle East.

To them Acid Eyes is fair and Osama is not. Not that they revere Osama just that the unarmed bit is hard to take.

Thanks for the replies.
