I am an Agnostic, raised as christian, I don't believe anyone has the answers, If god is real or not - its possible - its also possible he is not real but I believe nobody has the answer.

Compared to Religious Fanatics - Atheist are the most annoying to me and possibly the most destructive to society (yes I dare say that even with all religion has done)- Passionate Atheism is just wrong - its spiteful and its hateful - at least religious people have good intentions while the passionate atheist is just there to be assholes apparently. How bout you vocal atheist activist just drink a big glass of STFU & Quit picking on old folks because you got beat in catholic school.

Atheism is simply the rejection of theism. It is simply saying that the theist has not presented a good enough case to convince a belief. Some atheists go on to claim god is not real, but that claim is made in addition to and outside atheism. An atheist simply remains unconvinced until something convincing happens (evidence, divine experience, ect) to justify belief. Many atheists have high standards for what this evidence can be, but that is not the same as stepping up to make the claim that god is not real. Someone who claims god does not exist is not properly following the scientific method, since science never proves or disproves anything, but merely evaluates plausibility based on current knowledge, consistent logic and careful observation.

Being Athiest and believing you are god yourself are too very different things. Being an Atheist doesn't mean we put ourselves above god, to me it means that until any viable proof of any god is discovered the only person or thing I will have faith in is myself.

Theists make the claim that there is a deity. An atheist simply rejects that claim, while making no claim of his own. Knowing someone is an atheist tells you what they don't believe, but tells you nothing about what they do believe.

If you say that you remain unconvinced there is a deity, you are atheist. If you say that you are incapable of knowing, or unwilling to know, your are agnostic.

Right on guys, I didn't mean so much all atheist - I meant specifically atheist who denounce the existence of god and are hateful towards all that is religious, like the douche in the video. As Heisenberg wrote, these are not really athiest, they are some kind of hate mongers and deserve their own title really, They are just as bad as the religions that they are preech against, hypocrtical really, Ironic. I tried to give them their own title in the OP by calling them "passionate athiest". Essentially couldn't they be considered satanist? They do share a lot in common.

I love how not forcing kids to pledge allegiance to being under god = forcing beliefs on people.

Pushing beliefs is when they instruct you to say "under god". Dropping the under god is exactly the opposite. It's respecting everyone's beliefs. No one is pushing people to renounce their beliefs by dropping under god.

How can a devout atheist be more destructive to society than people who do all of the above mentioned? Atheists are commonly pacifists, because of a more sobering view on what life is exactly. It's easy to kill someone, or kill your self (or put yourself in the situation to be killed) when you believe that isn't the end of it all.

Secondly, an atheist probably shouldn't shut up because it's heavily realized amongst atheists that religion is killing people and destroying life and property while simultaneously making our populations more ignorant thus degrading the overall significance of our modern society. You need to turn up some Imagine by John Lennon and realize how an atheist thinks.

I'm a "passionate atheist". Ever heard me try to convert anyone? I don't care what other people believe and don't receive validation from trying to convince other people my beliefs are correct and their beliefs are wrong.

Religious folks constantly try to push their crap on society. It's messed up that when atheists ask for the minor dignity of not having to promise to devote themselves to something they don't belief in all of a sudden they are pushing their beliefs on everyone. That's a bunch of crap. I really couldn't care less if other people want to prey, go to church, whatever... All I ask is not to be an unwilling participant in that. Is that really unreasonable?
